Whether we go 3 at the back or not isn't the main issue for me, we may well be forced into a change of system as the players we have available may well determine what we do.

The main issue is attitude and performance levels, So many silly decisions/individual errors against Villa. Spurs have looked better under Jose, as does any team with a new manager but they have leaked goals also.

If we play high press and attack them, there is goals in this for us that's for sure.

If rumours are right and Martial is out along with McTom not being ready, I think we should stay 4-3-3 rather than a back 5.

    DDG
    AWB Lindelöf Maguire Williams
    Fred Periera
    Mata
    James Greenwood Rashford

Obviously far from ideal with a weak 2 in midfield and having to play Mata, but if we shore up individual errors and each players puts an 8/10 performance in that's all we can do.

If we go for a change of formation:
    DDG
    Lindelöf Tuanzebe Maguire
    AWB Williams

    Periera Fred
    Mata
    James Rashford

Why do people want us to lose?! Even if they want Ole gone, surely they would want our team to be doing the best or can.

It's so strange. You really can't call yourself a fan if you ever want your own team to lose.

They can rationalise it any way they like but I'd struggle to respect the opinion of any supporter who goes down that route.

With Martial joining the injury list it'll be difficult but there's always a chance of getting a result against Spurs.

    Martial out injured?

This is per FPL, say 75% chance of playing.
I can't find much on it. Apparently, Sky Sports are now reporting he went off injured against Villa and that he's struggling to be fit. The only info they seem to have is that he went straight down the tunnel when subbed off but it doesn't seem to have been reported at the time.

Fingers crossed both he and Mc Tominay make it.

I actually think Martial being out is a blessing in disguise.

I wouldn't have started him tonight anyway to be honest because we need our most hard-working counter-attacking players (although Martial would've been a good option to bring on in the second half)

I think we should go with the back 3/5 and exploit the wings (Spurs biggest weakness - Aurier is a very attacking full-back and their 1st choice LB (Davies) is out, leaving, I imagine, Danny Rose on - who they wanted rid of in the summer).

    De Gea
    Tuanzebe Lindelof Maguire
    Wan-Bissaka McTominay Fred Williams
    Lingard
    James Rashford
As I said, we need to concentrate on the wings. Completely bypass the midfield (our weakest area - it'll either be Fred and a not-fully-fit McTominay or Fred and a shit Pereira) and use the ball-playing CBs to release the wing-backs and wide-forwards on the counter.

I would personally play Maguire in his favoured LCB position allowing him more scope to carry the ball forward and play long balls, but I imagine he will be the central, deepest CB dealing with Kane.

James and Rashford will burst down the wide-forward postions inbetween the CBs and FBs, and Lingard will play that false 9/CAM position pressing the defence and defensive mids.

I expect us to play quite well tonight, like we have done against the better opposition this season. But Jose will make sure he gets a result, no doubt about it. I reckon we'll take the lead but in the end, we won't have enough quality to see out the game and Spurs will get an equaliser.

    1-1.

Hopefully Jose reverts to type and plays to keep it tight and defensive - might avoid us getting a battering.
He will. He'll see it as a tough away fixture against a side with fast dangerous forwards.

His plan will be to bore it to it a 1 nil and I hope it bites him in the ass.

Spurs have been as bad if not worse than us recently. Yes they have a bit of a new manager bounce. But they have shipped 4 goals in their last two games against Bournemouth and Hammers. They are still fragile at the back but their attack is really starting to click. Alli looks back to his old self and with Kane and Son up top will always be a threat.

Dier has looked Dire, Rose has looked like he doesnt give a toss and with Davies injured he is first choice LB. And the CB's have been average to poor. If Hammers can score two against them surely we can grab a couple at home.
Verts will be at left back.

We will see, certainly hasn't been like that in the last 3 games.

Anything other than a loss would be a huge surprise. If i look at the state of our delusional failing Fergie copy talking his usual nonsense every week, we can be happy where we are currently.

I'll be surprised if it's anything but a 2+ goal victory for Spurs.
I have noticed that when fans are confident - we lose.
When fans are expecting a heavy loss - we do well and sometimes win.

I remember when we played MCFC, at their stadium and won 3-2, after a brutal 2nd half where we spanked them.
Similarly, against LFC, a few weeks back, most expected to get spanked and it was them who narrowly avoided a loss.
Then of course we have games like Bournemouth or Newcastle, who we expect to be....and lose to.

I can see this being a draw.

Ole will always talk up his performance, saying that 9th place is actually quite good. He wants to divert attention off of his own poor performance.
But, what I object to is when fans accept this. There are fans on here who say that 9th place is fine, because we are in transition (they also come up with many other silly excuses, but the transition excuse is the silliest). These so called fans will have us in transition for the next 30 years and they'll still say that we are doing well and that every club must go through this.

Standards have dropped so low, in the space of 2 years - 2 years ago, 2nd place wasn't good enough, but now 9th place is. It makes no logical sense.

That's a bit OTT isn't it? You're the home team and are not playing peak Barcelona.

I still think we’ll get something out of this game, Spurs are still leaking goals and have a poor record at Old Trafford.

We’re now the kind of team that raises ourselves for these type of games and plays out of our skin.

Doesn't take much brain power to understand a fan who wants short term pain for long term gain.

I want us to win but i completely understand people wanting us to lose to get rid of ole. Performances have been utter shite going way back into last season, 4 wins all of this season. Things are grim. A loss for a chance of what many see as a neccessary change? Like i say, doesn't require much brain power to get your head round it.

Are they any less of a fan than someone who hopes we limp along into mediocrity because the manager is an ex player? I'd say no.

If Martial is out and Lingard starts over Greenwood......it would be insanity to me. We can't keep doing the same thing over and over...can we?

    Agreed,
Can't call yourself a fan if you want the team you support to lose, unless it stops Liverpool winning the league of course!!
Can't see anything other than a Spurs win tonight but as you say we still have a good chance,
Martial and McT are both massive losses but I expect Greenwood to start to signal Oles intent and I would like to see Lingard play a more central role as I thing we are going to need his energy tonight.

I think even Ole has cottoned onto the fact Lingard is likely on the spiral down.

As Ole either uses him as a last resort or for cup games against weak opposition.

So I'd be surprised if Lingard starts tonight, especially over Greenwood.

    We'll raise our game.

Quality isn't our problem, its the dreadful consistency.

Put 30 quid on a spurs win. Hope I’m im wrong but think jose will just control the game. He will sit deep and hit us on the counter (probably with success). Given we struggle to break teams down and I can’t see us not conceding, the writing is on the wall.
Genuinely can’t see the game going any other way. Unless it’s a bore draw.
