Against a Pullis team that would be massively well organised I'm sure that we'll face a tough test pretty similar to what we had against Moscow but even harder cause they had players who can hurt on the break.

It reminds me so much our game againts them last year when we lost after 70% of possession.

I guess that we'll have this kind of game.

Regarding the line up, of course my opinion is very different of LVG and the way he will set up his team.

I don't understand/like, the way he modify his defense with Young RB, Blind CB and Rojo LB when the first is needed higher, the second is not better than Jones and less suited to physical chalenges, and Rojo not very good against team well organised when our full back needs to play donw the wing, bring speed and good crosses. What he's not good at.

I hope that there will be a bit of changes through the middle. I would like to have a more dynamic midfield trio than Roo-Basti-Carrick. And of course, the big thing who will play on the wings ?

In our current shape, Mata is clearly useless. No movement from Young/Carrick/Basti or Rooney (unlike last year with Herrera and Valencia around him), and I'm not really convinced by Lingard. He's fast, direct (proper Academy player), but I'm still doubting his abilities with the ball at his feet, which his the main point for a footballer. I really think that he has nothing more than Januzaj for example. But our team is so un balanced that we have no option down the flanks

And this is exactly what we have to do to beat them. Bring the ball on the wing play 2vs2 with speed and pace on the wing and create space in the middle. But this is our former us... now this is pass, pass, pass, De Gea's miracle, pass, pass, pass, Smalling's miracle, pass, pass, pass, bring on Felli etc

What I would like to see

    -----------------------------------------De Gea------------------------------------------
    Jones--------------------------Smalling---------Rojo------------------------------Blind
    -------------------------------------Schweinsteiger-------------------------------------
    Lingard------------------------Herrera----------Fellaini--------------------------Young
    -----------------------------------------Martial------------------------------------------

    What we'll see

    -----------------------------------------De Gea------------------------------------------
    Young--------------------------Smalling---------Blind------------------------------Rojo
    --------------------------------Schweinie-------Morgan----------------------------------
    Mata-------------------------------------Herrera----------------------------------Lingard
    -------------------------------------------Rooney------------------------------------------

We could have had quite a few on Tuesday with a bit of luck and more competence up front.

Think we'll be more confident, and we'll see a comfortable win with more than one goal scored (no white text!!)

Going to be almost a carbon copy of Tuesday's game this I think.

Going up against an ultra defensive team with 11 men behind the ball, hopefully we can nick a goal and win again.

Basically forced to play Young at Right Back again with Darmian suspended and Valencia out (Jones and McNair out too?) Young at RB against CSKA was probably in preparation for this.

Lingard will keep his place, with the only players who may get dropped are Carrick/Schweinsteiger or Mata. A lot could ride on if Schneiderlin is back, or maybe he'll go for it with Herrera in central midfield?

Then again, its an international break after this game, so Carrick + Schweinsteiger again probably makes sense.

Just realized that we lost our last 2 games at Old Trafford against them, and have 1 win in our last 5 against them (3-0 away with Moyes). Fecking West Brom of all teams.

Yeah, they've really crept up on us as a bogey team. Obviously the 5-5 was a freak result in strange circumstances, but still.

Hoping LVG plays Herrera in midfield. But, I can't see it.

Jones in for Blind and we are good to go because I wouldn't trust Blind and Young against a team that will be looking to play on the break

How did we not beat these last season? Comfortably on top in both games. I think a win by 2 goals this time

we need to be more efficient against this lot because lack of that was what cost us in both fixtures last season.

Bastian could do with a rest, especially with the international break coming up.

    Rooney

    Martial-------Mata--------Lingard

    Herrera--------Schneiderlin

    Rojo------Jones-------Smalling------Darmian

    De Gea

Selection looks perfect to me but surely Mata right, Lingard left, Rooney in the hole and Martial up front? Play them all where they've produced their best football this season (and Rooney has been at his least obstructive.)

    They will park a 747.

I'd like to see LVG stray from the philosophy. Probably won't happen .

Jones is a better defender than Blind, period. So when we have to play another midfielder in defence (Young) I'd be more comfortable with a more reliable CB alongside Smalling especially considering the danger a player like Berahino would cause against the fact that we are a low scoring team ourselves, one goal could seal the match against us.

We know that and the rest of the fans know that but how often has Martial played up top when Rooney has been in the side?

I think scoring in the first 20 minutes would make a big difference to us, we don't score that often in the first 20 minutes and we normally start our games pretty well. When we don't score in the first 20 minutes, we usually slow down, start passing sideways and that allows the defence to sit behind the ball, we then move the ball around slowly unable to penetrate the defence. If we score within this time frame it destroys their defensive gameplan, forcing them to come out and attack which I believe we have the defence to deal with it.

I hope we go with Schneiderlin and Herrera in midfield, Martial upfront and Rooney (because he will play) as attacking mid.

Think you are being generous there. Blind has been good at CB this season but has certainly had dodgy moments.

Re counterattacks - You only have to go back to De Gea and Smalling's heroics in the last game against CSKA . We were hit on the counter and Blind couldn't live with Doumbia's pace (though you can't really blame him as Doumbia is rapid and was fresh from the bench)

It kind of wasn't Blinds fault though, Smalling sort of cleaned up after his own mistake and Dave, well Dave's like a wall where someone forgot to put a door.

Apparently West Brom beat us 1-0 in May. I genuinely can't remember a thing about it.
The usual 75-80% ball possession without making a breakthrough, only for West Brom to score with a wickedly deflected free kick. Freak result if ever I've seen one.

We don't stand a chance. We played well in the last match so this is destined to be another snooze-fest. 0-0

Setanta are obviously aware of how boring we are, that's why they no longer show our 3pm games it seems.

    Indeed.
I think Southampton also did the same to us last year - we dominated with possession - they had 1 shot on goal and it went in. They won 1-0.
I am hopeful that after the CSKA game, we are going to attack more - that was the one game where I felt we had genuine intent. Normally, I feel that our intent is to win 1-0 or be happy with a 0-0.

I think scoring in the first 20 minutes would make a big difference to us, we don't score that often in the first 20 minutes and we normally start our games pretty well.
Correction: we don't score that often

Looks like it's Danish TV again :(
NBCSN usually show all United league games at 3pm or earlier, a few late kick offs get pushed to obscure online channels they have but mostly their main channel shows United.

Pretty decent coverage too, and the pundits are more bearable than some of those we have to listen to over here.
