It's either that or a 1-1 draw.Do they go for replays or penalties in efl ?
Yes it will go to penalties.
Did none of you watch the League Cup game last year, against Middlesborough?
The game lasted 120 minutes and we were hopeless at creating goals. LVG had to get up to go to the loo and the commentators on Five Live were joking that LVG got bored and went home.
It was dire and one of the most boring games of the season.

So, at 120 minutes and 0-0, it went to penalties. Rooney - Captain Fantastic - stood up. Took the penalty. And BAAAM. No goal. That set the tone for the remaining penalties and we lost the penalty contest quite easily.
Although the match was boring (as was normal under LVG), the match day thread was very funny. When Rooney missed his penalty most of us were laughing. Nobody was really taking it seriously.

It will be interesting to see who partners Ander in the midfield for this one, Schneiderlin seems the most likely but it could be Schweinsteiger or maybe Jose surprises everyone and gives TFM a try.

    Lol.
Read somewhere they cancelled replays and adopted penalties, maybe it was fa cup. But I do remember us going out on penalties. Didn't realise it was last season.

First match in a long time I can't watch due to work out of office. We'll probably play well and win with my luck.

If I need to watch this I have to wake up at 5.00 am. Even then I can only watch the first half and leave for work just as the second half is starting. So I would prefer if Rooney and Marouan’s faces are not the first thing I see when I wake up. Mata and Martial and TFM are more agreeable that early.

Yes. We really need him, he brings ballance to our squad.
Carrick has already been rested this week. I think he'll be able to manage a game on Wednesday and Sunday. Mourinho won't field a weak team for this. He will be desperate to win some trophy this season and the League Cup would be the easiest bet.

Quite contrary. Carrick was out with an injury for the weekend so he won't be risking him in this cup with the more important Tottenham game on Saturday considering how better we play when Carrick is around.

Didn't realise he was injured. In that case, I guess it would be better to play Bastian or Morgan instead. Two tough games coming up in the EPL and we need Carrick at his best for both games.

Don't think he was genuinely injured, just an excuse to leave him out of the squad as Mourinho knew he couldn't play 3 games in 7 days.

Unless it was a very small muscle strain/bruise he wouldn't be fit after 3 days.

I'd pick this team but highly doubtful Jose will. I see this as our best chance of a trophy this year so hopefully we can smash West Ham as I dislike them greatly. Then hopefully we can draw Hull!

Good that Pogba got that yellow card. Now he's reset, and he probably wouldn't have featured anyway.

Play some youngsters like Axel or Tofu. And play Mkhi, Martial, Schweini for form. It is after all what this cup is about anyways.

I have a feeling we might be seeing Bastian for this.
I have a feeling he was on the bench to advertise him as not being on the scrap heap to potential suitors. Hopefully I'm wrong, we could do with something that resembles Bastian in our squad.

I hope Basti gets a chance here. Since it looks like we're taking the Europa League seriously, no need to play Carrick twice a week. Keep him rested for the PL matches and let Basti get the cups.

Good for Pogs suspension, that's about it.
Completely forgot about this. Wonder if Jose asked Pogba to get a yellow for the West Ham game (Wasn't he known to do something like that during his Chelsea and Inter days?).

    Romero
    TFM----Jones----Blind----Shaw
    ---Herrera--Schweinsteiger
    Lingard----Mkhi----Martial

Unlikely given Mourinho's apoplectic reaction on the weekend. And the fact that it wasn't actually a bookable offence, of course.

In Smalling's pocket (as every other person)
Don't think so, the other midfielders have also been really good recently. Herrera, Carrick and Mata all shining at the mo. Pogba's been excellent but I don't think we're too reliant.
It's not really that he has been better than the others, but I dont think the others can bring what he brings. That creativity, skill to physically beat opponents, dribble last opponents, passes over the top are things which help us a lot im creating chances and getting to the final third.

Pogba forces the team forward like none of our other players do. He has been extremely important in the improvement of build up play we have seen this season. I hate to think where we would be standing in the league without his presence in the midfield. He'll be missed tonight and I expect a more evenly contested game than Sunday.

That's true. Conspiracy put to rest.
