West Ham United Football Club (nicknamed The Irons, The Hammers, and The Academy of Football) are a professional football club based in Upton Park, East London. They were founded in 1895 by foreman and local league referee Dave Taylor and owner Arnold Hills as Thames Ironworks F.C. - a strictly amateur football club with a team featuring a number of works employees. During the summer of 1898, Thames Ironworks F.C. became a professional outfit for the first time, to match their new status as members of the Southern League Second Division, and were promoted to the First Division at the first attempt following a decision to enlarge the top division of the Southern League to 19 teams. After growing disputes over the running and financing of the club in June 1900, Thames Ironworks F.C. resigned from the Southern League and were officially wound up. On 5 July 1900 they reformed under the new name of West Ham United and accepted an offer of the Southern League place left vacant by Thames Ironworks.

West Ham's most successful period started with the appointment of Ron Greenwood in 1961 - leading to FA Cup, League Cup and Cup Winners' Cup titles - with youth team graduates Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters at the forefront. Their nickname The Academy of Football pays homage to the club's proud tradition in English football for playing entertaining, attacking football - and the success of the club in coaching future greats - which includes that aforementioned trio of World Cup winners, Trevor Brooking, Paul Ince, Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Jermaine Defoe and Michael Carrick. West Ham's most prominent rivals are local clubs Millwall (Dockers derby - one of the longest-standing and most bitter in English football), Chelsea (East versus West London rivalry), and Tottenham Hotspur (East versus North London derby). They played their home games at the now demolished Boleyn Ground (often referred to as Upton Park) from 1904 to 2016, and moved to the London Olympic Stadium at the start of the 2016/ 2017 League season.

Can’t be fecking around here. Need to be at it and we will beat them.

6 points against West Ham and Wolves is a must otherwise today was pointless.

I really hope Cunha is back.

West Ham will sit back and wait for us to make mistakes. Palace tried to play a bit and ultimately that helped us get the win today. So we’ll need someone with a bit of ball carrying ability to keep the ball in their packed half.

Should be a banker of 3 points... right...?

In all seriousness, they'll definitely sit back and look to hit us on the counter. Time to see if we've actually learned anything from that debacle against Everton.

If we can get a win here then we will get 3 points and also our goal difference will improve by however many we win the match.

    Wet Ham and then Wolves.
The 2 worst teams in the PL this season, by a mile.
Get the 6 points. No excuses whatsoever.

I work shift work. I have barely any weekends off and when I do I have to have family time, which I begrudgingly accept is fair. So I haven't gotten to watch a full united game in a long while. I am off on Thursday and will be able to watch the game, please, please united, just show up for me and give me s game I can enjoy.

Same team again. I’d want Martinez to start but it’s either him or Shaw, or shifting Shaw to LWB.

    Assuming Cunha is back

    Lammens
Mazraoui - de Ligt - Martinez
    Amad - Bruno - Casemiro - Shaw
    Mbeumo - Mount - Cunha

They have a blueprint to borrow from the Everton match to frustrate us so we can't be so fecking passive again. An aggressive, high tempo performance is needed.

I thought we would absolutely smash Everton and then we lost. So I'm holding myself back from getting my hopes up again.

Team that is going to sit back, I would play Maz at RCB in this one. Maybe bring in lisandro and play shaw at wing back.

Another team playing their cup final, like Everton.

Up to us to measure up to their effort and we’re sound.

Never forgave Fergie for letting them off the hook when we could’ve relegated them instead Sheffield Utd. Don’t think he liked Warnock.

Let's see if Amorim has learned anything whatsoever from the Everton catastrophe.

I hate blaming other teams..we sometimes play like we have already won and it comes and bites us in the backside like Everton.

Turn up,,fast and furious get a 2 goal cushion and then faf about..we don't have the luxury to mess things up anymore.

Agreed, I don't don't take anything for granted anymore not even Wolves or Hammers at home. They can just sit back and hit us on the counter. We only have one clean sheet this season. But we are now in decent position to go into top 4 during the next 3-4 games.

Hopefully this is a comfortable win, and it may even be the game for Casimero to get his 5th yellow (late in the game) for the season to miss the following game at Wolves.

United are everyone's cup final. The sooner the players realize this, the sooner we'll start stringing 4-5 winning streaks again. Apart from the dire tactics, which depend almost entirely on the type of players we don't have (wingbacks), the lack of urgency is what slays us match after match.

Really harsh to drop Zirkzee for Cunha when Cunha hasn't lit the world alight either, do think meritocracy is crucial and for now JZ deserves to start surely?
Actually think Cunha has been relatively good for us in the game's I have seen. His hold up play and dribbling is phenomenal.

Misfired a lot though, and seems like he’s still playing for himself. Get the impression that once it clicks and players like Cunha can work well with others he’ll be incredible.

Would play him over Zirkzee by the way. He scored a great goal, but has been largely anonymous and I think the Mount - Cunha - Mbeumo front 3 has shown to be more effective.
