I think the diamond is the best way to get the most out of our players to be fair, we are stocked in CM and now we have a left back who can cross (maybe drop AWB).

Matic at the base as he’s the best with the ball in that position, Fred on the left of it, VDB on the right, Bruno at 10 (or the other way around), and 2 of martial rashford cavani and Greenwood.

It actually plays to our strengths really wel and will probably be more defensively secure.
Yeah cannot disagree with your logic, we need something different. Greenwood and Rashford can also offer width as Bruno moves forward and plays a flase 9 but the shape of the diamond, i think it is sensible given current circumstances.

It must be so easy for teams to prepare playing against us, we are so predictable. Basically no change in tactics or personnel for them to consider. I guess no Martial means we might do something but I will be very surprised if we don’t line up in the usual 4231 with Cavani in for Martial. I miss when Ole first came in and we were constantly changing it up, springing a surprise on Spurs with 2 up top playing out wide.

    Newcastle 3-1.

We will capitulate after playing well in first 90 seconds. Bruno will score a penalty.

We will sit back and wait. If we score first we will sit back more and concede.
    1-1.

I think we'll be seeing both Cavani and Telles starting.

Yes exactly! Why has he stopped doing that though. It was great to see opposition teams getting all confused and struggling to adapt/cope.
Does he think we're now such a well-oiled machine similar to City 18/19 and Liverpool 19/20 that teams will fail even though they prep for our 4-2-3-1? We are FAR from that. To be fair, it worked post Restart but we're now in a new season and we need to build that momentum from scratch again.

We’re going to get pumped. Newcastle have looked better than us so far and I’ve no reason to think they’ll not be better than us in 2 weeks time.

    3-1 Newcastle.

We have many options from midfielders but Ole haven't used them to get the best except Fred and Tommy combo. It means with 4 at the back we have to have legs and running in the middle.

For me it's more important now to get confident back, starting by making the team solid again - let in 9 goals is ridiculous. So I hope we start with back 5 with Shaw as LCB and Telles as LWB. Whether Ole let's him play as a pure WB or coming inside and Shaw as LB when we have the ball doesn't matter, Telles has a great crosses and shots on him to be dangerous in either position.

One thing has to change when Telles plays though as we haven't done that regularly and that's why when Cavani ready to plays we all see the difference. Get players in the box, attack the penalty area. So many times it's look so funny when we try to combine on the wings and I see no one in the box. What the point when trying everything to put in the passes or crosses without any one in the 16y area?

We didn't start well but I think this season is not as bad as some predict. Those defeats better happen now.

I wish Pogba could be reaching the levels of a Burnley player at the moment.
So you have two players both in bad form, do you pick the one who’s top level is World Cup winning superstar or the sideways passing passion merchant who can’t control a football? It’s a no brainier. Mctominay isn’t good enough to start for us, even in form, which he isn’t right now. In fact he’s been absolutely atrocious since lockdown.

I don't think Pogba should start the next game under any circumstance. I think if you put in a performance that bad, there should be changes - otherwise what kind of message is that? There should be 4 or 5 changes from the Spurs game and Pogba should be one of them.

Personally I'd go Fred and VdB, but if it was McT I'd be fine with that... he at least showed a bit of fight when he came on, and him and Fred were decent in the Brighton cup game (though obviously that was their second team, but still, at least they did fine)

We need Fred in midfield from now on. Matic out.

And Pogba has? Pogba has been the worst player of the season so far easily. He's been a disgrace.
Definitely had been poor. But, benefit of doubt needs to be given since Covid can take a serious toll on your health and has long lasting affects even after one recovers.

However, McTominay is not the answer. Fred and McTominay in the middle will leave the midfield completely static. Devoid of creativity.

We've conceded 11 goals in 3 league games. I'm more worried about protecting the back 4 right now than I am about creating chances. Pogba's performances have been a big reason we've been cut open at will.

We also played some of our best football last season from January onwards with Fred, Bruno and either Matic or Mctomminay. City home 2-0 prior to lockdown we were excellent and no Pogba to be seen. Plenty other examples too. Just go back and watch.

Sometimes it's better to have a steady player like Fred who covers every inch of grass and runs his balls off than a more talented player like Pogba going through the motions to pick up his wages.

Will Cavani be ready in 2 weeks? Assuming he won't, I'd like to see:

    DDG

    AWB
    Lindelof
    Maguire
    Telles

    Bruno
    Matic
    VDB

    Rashford
    Greenwood
    James (Pellistri)

(Cavani to come on if required)

In an ideal world Maguire is dropped for 2-3. I’ve said before on here I was impressed with how he started playing last season, he needs a break and to get his head together. Been completely atrocious this season. I’d also drop Pogba for VDB.

    I totally agree with this.
We are being set up as an attacking force in every game with Rashford, Martial, Greenwood and Bruno, but if we cannot get the ball to them, then they are worthless, we must stop other teams exploiting the space we leave in midfield. Can easily change the shape with McTominay coming in to a midfield three, and VDB pushing further forward if required.

I think we will scrape a win, but it won't be pretty. I foresee many shots being conceded and many bars being hit.

McTominay has proven time and again that he's defensively not up to scratch, in addition he gives it away a lot which is our biggest problem alongside lack of protection. We were at our best when Matic was performing well in that role - until he signed his new contract.
