Mainly because they've been drilled as a strong collective for a few season now (yeah they've got some top quality in midfield with Tonali and Guimaraes, and they have Isak, but apart from that their team shouts mediocrity).
Amorim needs to improve what is here on top of getting reinforcements or he can get the feck out. He deserves some time for doing that though.
He's scored 6 goals this season, 2 in Europa league. Hojlund has scored 8, 5 in europa league.

We really have few viable alternatives to the starting players. Could have used some more youth, but Amass getting a start is about as far as we could risk. Maybe Chido up top instead of Zirkzee. I don't actually care about this mauling because this wasn't our first team, and I think that's how everyone should be viewing this match. Possibly should have thrown as many kids in as possible, since we weren't winning this one anyway.
It all comes down to beating Lyon. If Amorim loses, I see no reason to persist with him. If he wins, he's a tactical genius. No half measures!

We just don't have the squad to compete on multiple fronts. Having a season with no Europe where we can just pick our best 11 every game and (presumably) get a lot less injuries and fatigue might be for the best.

If you look at what Frank has created with Brentford, he becomes interesting. Brentford has a much smaller budget than us and much worse players too (as one of the few teams in the PL).
