They tried to sign our entire strikeforce last summer. Now they can go there with their Geordie manager and show them what they missed.

If Everton can beat this lot at their ground, so can we. But it will probably be a tight game, and it feel like we are due coming out on the wrong end of one of those for once.

    A point wouldn't be a disaster.
Our last win there was 2020. I am taking point right now.

This will be Newcastles cup final, so no doubt theyll step up their game. Maguire might have a knock so hopefully Martinez is back if not we have a very young centre back pair.

Our last win there was 2020. I am taking point right now.
There must be a lot of these kinds of records though, given how shit we were for 2.5 years in a row. But agree, it can be a tough place to come and they've had our number.

Weirdly it gives me a bit of confidence, that we might be able to play more on the counter and maybe create some chances that way. We could have more openings than we did away to West Ham and Everton. A few weeks ago I would have advocated for the Mbeumo/Amad/Cunha front three, but dropping Sesko now would not be ideal.

So much negativity here Breathe. Team is miles ahead of Ramsey, Elanga, Woltemande, Joelinto, burn, hall
Thiago etc. Not saying it’s going
To be easy, it’s a tough place to go but if we play good attacking football and defend well we have every chance of getting three points are at least a draw. Newcastle are no where near the level now what people think
Our team is miles ahead of Canvot, Richards, Kamada, Strand Larsen, Johnson. But they still gave us a tough game today and were the better team in large parts before the red card. Listing players means nothing really in top level football.

Also players like Tonali, Hall and others have proven to be top quality players.

With all the defenders potentially down, could we end with a back 4 of Dalot--Yoro--Heaven--Maz? I trust those players, but just different for us.

Plus no way Casemiro will make it through the whole game after full 90 today.

If no Maguire and Sesko on bench to come in, we'll be waaaay short on set pieces against Burn, Joelinton, Woltamade and company.

6-2 in 02/03 and 5-1 in 07/08 were some of my favourite United performances.

Think we will lose here. Midweek night game in cold shit hole Newcastle. Our injuries are starting to climb too.

Zero points and we move on.

Nasty match at a nasty ground after riding our luck for a few games. The dam will break at some point. We've won 5 out of the last 6, they have lost 4 out of the last 5 in the league. But I think they'll be well up for it.

Will be tricky but don’t under estimate how shit Newcastle are

This is the game I've been expecting us to lose for weeks now(when I realized it's an away game on short week). They will be up to it - they see us as rivals, for some reason(probably because of 1995/96 title race).

In the "Saudi era" we haven't beaten them at St James's Park, lost the previous 3 meetings there. Atmosphere at St James's is loud, hostile and we still have a lot of mentally fragile players that can get intimidated, unsettled by that.

I would be pleasantly surprised even if we got just a draw. Lack of energy in couple of previous matches doesn't fill me with optimism.

As others have said, we’ll probably lose here. St James’s Park is a very tough ground, and our performances haven’t been the best, so yeah.

Assuming the worst regarding all currently recovering and freshly injured players, I think we see this:

    ..........................Sesko...........................
    ...............................................................
    Cunha...............Bruno.............Mbeumo
    ................................................................
    ...........Casemiro.........Mainoo...............
    ................................................................
    Dalo.........Heaven.......Yoro.............Maz
    ................................................................
    ........................Lammens........................

We're gonna be in a bad way if another defender gets injured.

Our short stint in 3rd might come to an end as well, if we lose this and Liverpool smash Wolves, which they probably will.

Their cup final, dressing room photo "Who's that team we call United?" at the ready etc...

    The pluses:
    - They are bang out of form including recent poor home run
    - Bruno Guimaraes out
    - Average defense

It will still be very difficult and are players will need to be on it from the first minute. Wouldn't be unhappy with a draw here, would be absolutely elated with a win.

I think we can win. They will be up for it and press like maniacs, but we have the pass and guile catch them out on the counter. Their defence is shaky and their midfield isn’t what it was. Their new signings are poor.

Because of the last number of results and no game at the weekend, we can afford to throw everything at this. They have their biggest game of the season at the weekend.

No reason we can’t scrape a win here and put ourselves in a great position going into a break for everyone.

    Possible.

Cunha just did 90+ minutes, may go with Amad to start instead and bring Cunha on for Casemiro (with formation change).

But I think your right with back line if worst case scenario regarding injuries

Normally I'd take a draw here but Newcastle are in absolutely rancid from so it would be very annoying to not win.

I really don't want it to be true, but think this one is where Carrick gets his first loss. Hoping we can show up but not confident with the midweek match and at St. James, they always seem to step it up against us.

Come on United, prove me wrong.

Nick Nickelback is gonna have the game of his life so he can look back at his photograph

    Lammens
    Mazaroui-Maguire-Licha-Dalot
    Amad-Casemiro-Mainoo-Mbeumo
    Sesko-Bruno

Heaven in for Maguire if he's out. I'm choosing not to imagine a world where Maguire is out and Licha isn't back.

I'd play a quasi 442 and Dalot needs to be on the left, not Mazaroui

We've definitely dipped off a bit, so going to treat this as a free hit, where a draw would be a decent result, and a win amazing, but maybe the Geordies taking the front foot and coming at us will play into our hands.
Yeah that's what I'm hoping, looking beyond results let's be honest we haven't performed well since Arsenal. Like @Mike Smalling says I fear we are due to come out on the wrong end of a close one

    Their fixtures

    United - midweek
    City FA Cup - weekend
    Barca - midweek
    Chelsea -weekend
    Barca - midweek
    Sunderland - weekend

Wow... Chelsea probably with the best time to play them.

    Lammens
    Maz Yoro Maguire Dalot
    Bruno Casemiro Mainoo
    Amad Sesko Cunha

I feel this will be our first loss under Carrick and instantly people will be out baying for blood and saying how we should've kept Amorim if this is what we're going to play like haha.

I don't really have anything to base that on. We're second in the form table and Newcastle are 18th so it seems like it should be a straightforward win, but you just know they'll play like lions against us and then collapse to a 4-0 defeat the week after.

That said, we've been winning consistently without playing particularly well and are unbeaten in 11 (I think) in the league. So still hoping for a win. Consolidating 3rd prior to playing Villa would be lovely to see.

I think we are going to lose this, and comfortably basis nothing but the recent patterns that have emerged while playing against them. Joelinton will turn into Zidane for the day and will run riot. If we win, gotta be a biggie.

Our worst game under Carrick came after the short turnaround and playing midweek.

Hoping we can get a result here and open up a gap with Villa v Chelsea also happening this midweek.

Defense looks like it could end up cobbled together and Yoro didn't give me much confidence yesterday.

We been very pedestrian in our tempo last 3 games. These lot always run around like they got carrots poking their arses. Hope Carrick can adress the energy levels.

If we turn up like we did away against Arsenal in Carrick’s second game, we will win this one. For some reason, lethargy and maybe a bit of complacency is stating to creep in.

Our injury hit backline is a bit of a worry though. I’m hoping Shaw makes a miraculous recovery.

feck me, I must've completely erased the memories of last season under Amorim because I have no recollection of the 4-1 defeat last year

Due a win here. We’ve so bad recently and also given them motivation when ETH said they were a physical team who weren’t averse to a bit of time wasting. The outrage!!
They’ll be motivated for their cup final alright and won’t sit back. Were better than we have been and they are worse
