We have won at Anfield and the Emirates this season, so St James Park is nothing really. 3-1 United with 2 late goals from us to seal the game

This is going to be a v v v tough game. Newcastle have good players, have been playing with a lot of spirit and may feel something is due for them. I would welcome, welcome a point. We also have injuries.

Just think we need to be realistic.

    We just beat Everton away.

    Everton just beat Newcastle away.

You could not pick a better time to play Newcastle and they will also have one eye on the FA Cup tie this weekend.

And everyone thinks we will probably lose this game ?

In any case a number of posters probably cant wait for us to lose this or the next one so they can prove their point of us being on a downright trajectory.

Their recent form in the league is shite, won 1 drawn 1 lost 5 of their last 7, the win was Spurs and draw was Wolves.

I think it'll be an easier game than Everton or even West Ham, if we've got some players available like Licha or Maguire. Newcastle will no doubt take it to us, and not sit back, which suits us massively, and they're in pretty shite form.

My mate is a Newcastle season ticket holder and has said the exact opposite. He said they look like they can’t be arsed recently, although they’re bound to be up for it agaisnt United.

This may make a difference, however I think we need to have a degree of realism. We have come a long way in a short time, and, arguably, it's beginning to show. Our performances against both Everton and Palace have not been so fluid, or balanced as a few games ago, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that by the way.

However, it just means we need to take each game as is, I don't, personally, think we are good enough yet, to just say we can go here or there, turn up and win.

There is a difference between realism and defeatist, too many on here fear the worst all the time.

A win at Newcastle is never a given, regardless of form but we go there at a good time imo.

If they were playing Liverpool, they wouldn't show up. But these sweaty Geordies will be well up for this game.

I feel the same. Newcastle will be looking for a game to turn their season and United coming to town will be that opportunity.
Hopefully we play without fear as they are a different team without bruno g.

Everyone thought we'd lose to City and Arsenal.

    Mainoo - Casemiro

As fans, we seem to have forgotten very quickly how bloody good the run has been since Carrick arrived...6 out of 7 wins is a million miles away from where the team was before he arrived.

So it is safe to feel a little confident about the next game.

I can only see another 3 points tbh.

I'd be (obviously pleasantly) surprised if we even managed a draw there. Given how we've performed over the last 3-4 matches, I think Newcastle will get all 3 points.

Hearing that Maguire and Shaw might be okay gives me loads more confidence.

Funny to say that in 2026

Biggest thing with Newcastle over the past few seasons is matching their physicality and effort. We did it in the game at Old Trafford but I’m not as confident they can repeat in a midweek fixture away from home. Sesko deserves a start but we may be better of with Carrick’s regular starting front 3 if Newcastle are going to allow space behind.

We are going to lose one eventually, whatever about the fans freaking out its much more about how the players react. It does seem like everyone is much more focused under Carrick (which i guess is easy when you're winning and nearly everybody is getting some minutes)

I would take a draw here and continued momentum. We don't do well in Newcastle recently though, we will most likely concede so it'll be a good test. They will keep coming at us and I think we can pick them off for one or two

I really don't want it to be true, but think this one is where Carrick gets his first loss. Hoping we can show up but not confident with the midweek match and at St. James, they always seem to step it up against us.

Come on United, prove me wrong.
Everyone steps it up against us!
Especially these numbnuts who for some reason think they are our rivals.

Newcastle historically seem to think there is a bitter rivalry between us because they once went close decades ago
They’ll be well up for this game more than any other apart from Sunderland and maybe Leeds

Really need either shaw or maguire in
It’ll be bad without both of them

No reason we cannot win here. I am aiming for and expect a win. Let’s be ambitious.

And CL next week. It could be they feel they're safe in the PL and are putting all their cards into the FA Cup and/or Champions League. Especially when it's looking more and more like they're not getting into a European spot in the table.

I watched their game vs Everton, I think their midfield, while energetic, lacks the creativity without Bruno G.

    We can beat them too.

I'm sure we will play much better than the last few matches, Newcastle will push onto us, so we can certainly hit them on the break a few times, we just need to convert the opportunities when they arrive.

I would be happy with a draw.

These guys knows how to raise their game against us and we have been so poor at West Ham and at Everton that I don't see how we can give them issues.

Note also that when we played midweek, we have always been poor this year.

    Not confident at all.

If we can get some of our first choice defenders back, we'll win this. They'll come at us, and if we can defend as capably as we did against City and Arsenal, our forwards will certainly get goals.

Without Maguire, Shaw, Martinez or De Ligt, it's a bit harder to expect us to sit in.

They are susceptible to counter attacks.I have been advocatong for Sesko to start.I think it's better we unleash him from defence.I hope Maguire will be fit for thos Match because Newcastle are good aerially.
