We are 15 pts above them in the table, they will be missing some of their best players and they are in a bad run of form.

Our expectation should be go there and get 3 pts and be very disappointed if we don''t.

But you can still sense a lack of trust in the players that they can win when these types of games , thus many posters predicting a defeat and expressing that a draw would be a good result for us here.

We need to stop giving off vibes that we are only a minnow riding high in the table and we can't believe our luck that we are third.

Hopefully the players step up and show some confidence and desire and play like a team who are 15 pts ahead of their opponents , anything less than a win will be a failure here.

Typically this would be a really tough game, they’re really good at home. However, with the injuries that they have we really should be beating them. A draw wouldn’t be a horrible result but I would be dissapointed if we don’t get the win.

Would love to see us win and put in actual top performance to go along with it.

Sounding like it's trending towards us having a backline of Dalot-Yoro-Heaven-Mazraoui for this one

I’d go back to a front 3 of Cunha, Mbeumo and Amad as I suspect we won’t have much of the ball. Sesko on as a substitute again to cause chaos if we’re chasing a goal or trying to break the deadlock. It’s going to be a miserable game but a win at all costs is all we need.
He´s playing too well now to be dropped. We need our best eleven here.

The way he drops deep to link up play could also help us here and potentially create space.

He put up his feet a bit on Sunday so he should still be pretty fresh despite it being midweek.

We need to keep picking up 3 points every game until the end of the season. Finish on a real high, have everyone worried for next season.

We're due a good performance, last couple have been flat despite the wins. Let's turn it on here please!

Sounding obvious here but we new to start being more clinical with our chances and games like these is when that’ll really matter. Hoping for a day when the opposition gk doesn’t turn prime Buffon for this one

Martinez is out. Maguire and Shaw are recovering from illness

During his briefing with broadcasters at Carrington, the United head coach was asked about the availability of Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire, after they were withdrawn due to feeling ill in the victory over Palace.

"Yeah, we're hoping so," he replied about their involvement at St James' Park. "We're working towards it.

"They weren't feeling too good. We've still got a little bit of time to the game and we will just have to see how they feel. So we'll obviously give them every chance.

"No, it wasn't injury, it's just both of them weren't feeling too good. So, yeah, it's one of those things really. But we'll just have to see how they are today and tomorrow morning."

Maybe we are without many of our defenders: Dorgu, De Ligt, Shaw, Martinez and Maguire. That would leave a defence looking something like this:

    Dalot...Yoro..Heaven..Mazraoui

Even though they're not a direct rival there's always something special about United going to St. James' Park. It's just one of the great fixtures on the annual calendar. I need to make a trip up there someday.

I'm still happy with a job done performance but just so that we can bury this idiotic argument that United are underperforming under Carrick I would like to see a comfortable 0-2 win. And for those who won't be satisfied with a comfortable two nil win away at Newcastle, find a way to get comfortable with it.

Massive game… Chelsea face Villa so we need to gain some points over one of them

Think a Villa win for me. Should make top five very likely.

We’d be six ahead with a game in hand and nine to play. And Chelskis run in is tough … Newc, Ever, City, us, Brighton, Forest, LFC, Spurs, Sund
I think Chelsea and Villa still have to play rest of top 6 outside of Arsenal, including each other.

They're missing half they're team though and they're a bit shit. I'd be massively disappointed if we can't get up for that game.

Sorry, moved it to the more apt thread.

Hardly half a team, they're missing Guimaraes and Schar, as maybe obvious starters. This is a serious test for Carrick.

    That's a huge miss.
He always puts in a shift against us.

Won't play again for 11 days after this so players have to give it their absolute all before all that rest. Liverpool result can only be extra motivation.

We've been unable to get result at Newcastle for 3 years because every time they were too physical for us. So have to match them somehow, at least to extent. And use our chances. You'd expect us to play more on counter and transition.

Would it be fair to leave Šeško on bench after he scored yet again last time? Cunha-Amad-Mbeumo attacking three? Probably harsh. Most of other positions depend. With Maguire and Shaw being doubtful we could be much more shaky at the back.

If we win, we are in a commanding position for CL football.
Yeah but we dont care now even if we lose because Liverpool lost.

Newcastle have this habit of turning up against us and at their home I doubt we can do anything. Hopefully we win given their form and injuries!

Just looked at their next 5 games

    Utd
    City
    Barca
    Chelsea
    Barca

Could be looking for a new manager bounce for the derby. They are back where they sacked Bruce for being.

I’d take a draw. We haven’t won here since the 20/21 season and we are missing 3 of our starting back 4. It will be the usual hostile environment and I don’t think our midfield and defenders will be able to cope.

We're due a win here! They haven't been good all season and we're hot shit right now. Imagine we slapped them 4 or 5 nil.

Please for the love of god win this, Liverpool did their best to give us a real chance for CL football next season.

Free hit now with the results so far. Hopefully, the pressure is off the players to increase their lead on the chasing pack.

Of course we care. We got 10 games left and it's not one result one way or another that decides anything. We should be winning to make it count.

Given the result this evening, we have to go out and attack this one...

A win is now even more enormous, a loss is somewhat mitigated by Liverpools result and the fact at least one of Chelsea and Villa are dropping points too.

Im not sure we will win, but I am absolutely certain itll be one of the games of the season. Poised for absolute bedlam

Would happily take a draw given our recent record on Tyneside, however a win after the result tonight is gonna be absolutely massive for putting pressure on others

We have to win this games. Liverpool have dropped points again today and one of Villa or Chelsea will drop points because they’re playing each other. It’s the ideal time for us to open the gap up a little.
