Didn't know they have beaten us more often in the FA Cup than we have won against them. But they are very poor and we really should be winning this without straining too much. But the look at the teams with lost to this season... Let's hope we don't revert to sitting back and letting them get into the game

    Have you seen the schedule?
    Yes.

most of our outfield players just like 70 minutes and we were at home. They'll be fresh as daisies by Norwich.

IMO we should beat them comfortably then use the 5 subs again. Perhaps start Fred instead of Matic and Wiliams instead of Shaw, that's all I would change.

    --------------------Romero--------------------
    Dalot - Maguire - Bailly - Williams
    ------McTomminay ------Fred----------
    ----------------------Pogba-------------------
    ---------James-----------Greenwood--
    ---------------------Ighalo---------------------

Bring Pogba off at around 60 minutes. I'd rather he played to keep sharp, given how long it's been since he regularly featured. We can't afford to not have Maguire at the back, our defence is a shambles without him.

I hope we field 80% reserves. We seriously cannot afford injuries to our starters and the bench is big enough to give others a chance and still beat Norwich.

If we fail, we can fully focus on the PL and the EL afterwards.

    Need to rotate.
    --------------Romero-------
    Dalot--Bailly--Maguire--Williams
    --------Fred---------McTom
    ---------Not Lingard
    Mata-------Ighalo--------James

It's times like this you realize that we still need another option for AM.

Ole says Lingard will play tomorrow. If you can't play well against a soon to be Championship team, then it's time to go Jesse.

Ole will be mass-rotating for this game according to his pre-match presser, which means one of Lingard or Periera will be starting, possibly both.

    Lingard is confirmed to play.
Likely to start because he doesn't play at all so far the two games.

That's the thing isn't it, injury to Bruno and we're back to a mess.. well unless Pogba is given greater license to focus more on freely attacking.

Yes. That's why i do understand the need for a class DM but an AM is a bigger priority for me. I think i'd rather play Chong on the wing and Mata central. And i don't rate Chong at this time.

Injury to Bruno and we play Pogba in a free role in front of Matic and Fred. Injury to Pogba and we saw how well a midfield of Bruno Matic and Fred did before the restart. What's your solution if our only DM Matic gets injured?

Because we've seen last season Pogba as the only creator, he did a great job with the number of goals and chances created, but one player can be marker or just out of form and then we look blunted. I never want us to be in a position where we have only one creative outlet. We need a great DM too in order to take over from Matic, but given the choice now, i would rather take McTom as DM and have 2 proper creators in front of him.

Well what if it's a creative DM like Carrick? Is a Carrick Fred and Pogba midfield lacking enough creativity?

That would be by far my preferred choice, but where do you find a player that is great like Matic at being at the right place at the right time and have the passing range and vision, a Carrick 2.0? United has never played with a destroyer anyway but that player is so rare to find.

It's definitely rare to find. Shame we passed up on Fabinho but I think there are a few young DMs that are like that. Off the top of my head are Kalvin Phillips, Marc Roca and Koopmeiners. None of them are popular names but they are all performing in their respective leagues (not sure about Roca) and are better DMs than Mctominay. It's quite a risk but a low risk given their cheap cost. It's also better to get one now that we have both Matic and Carrick in our team to learn from them and adapt to the league before Matic leaves

If we can find a young ish one that is ok with maybe sitting on the bench at times to learn from Matic it would be great. I just think that this is a position very, very difficult to find the right player and i understand if the manager decides to try McTom rather then splash the cash on some pure destroyer like Rice.

DM is just an extremely difficult position to find. It took SAF ages until finding Carrick and then the team was transformed from a decent one to probably the best we ever had. Best bet IMO is that Matic can keep going because when in form, he is superb.

Yeah I agree it's a difficult position to find. Good example is City replacing Fernandinho with Rodri. But this even makes getting a DM right now quite important because while we know Matic is in superb form, we can't get on him to keep going as he's ageing so he needs sort of like a successor that can be learning and adapting to the team and league for now before taking over. I get the feeling Mctominay is who the club sees as the successor but I personally don't see it and we should instead get a creative DM as the successor

Ideally that would be great, but then, Ole doesn't seem interested. Were he ever deployed Pogba in that role? nope, always deeper. The closest he gets is playing a more adventurous free role as one of the CMs in 3 man midfield but that's last season, manager is obsessed with 4231 now, no chance.

 that's true. But I remember there was alot of noise when Mctominay and Fred duo were performing while Pogba was injured, people were expecting Pogba to come back from injury and replace Lingard/Pereira instead and play alongside Pogba Mctominay and Fred. That was before we bought Bruno and Matic's resurgence

That's rubbish though. Last year he played him in his Juve role as a mezzala with Herrera. Pogba has never played as a 10 inspite of what some United supporters think; not for United, not for Juve and not for France. Just because he is mega talented it doesn't mean he fits the nr. 10.

Expect considerable rotation. Starters need to be fit and firing for the Brighton game (where we've lost the last two seasons) against a team that have come back from the restart with purpose. Norwich are poor.

@Web of Bissaka is talking about the free role Pogba played last season with Herrera and Matic in midfield. I don't think people really mean he should play the 10 role but the free role he played last season which he excelled in

Ole’s presser pretty much confirms that Lingard is going to be starting. Would be good if it was mind games to give Norwich some bit of optimism going into this game but I doubt it. Of course there will be changes made to the team but I still fancy us to advance comfortably into semi’s. Will have a few strong options on the bench in case we need to call on a player or two to help us get over the line.

    Starting XI

    Romero

    Dalot
    Bailly
    Maguire
    Williams

    McTominay
    Fred

    Mata
    Lingard
    James

    Ighalo

    subs:
    Grant
    Wan-Bissaka
    Shaw
    Pereira
    Matic
    Pogba
    Greenwood
    Chong
    Rashford

    Score Prediction:
    Norwich City 0-2 Manchester United

Nah i reckon Norwich will rest most of their best players because to stay in the Premier League during the coronavirus period is so feckin important and to win the FA-Cup without fans at Wembley should mean not much for them.
We should rest every player from todays match against Norwich.
They left Cantwell and Pukki out of their last game, so might actually be going all in for this cup.

Honestly play the reserves for this for all I care, I do not want any injury to any key parts in the tournament that means the least this season.

Could be that they weren't fit.
    Definitely possible.
Something we'll have to manage very well ourselves with such a rammed schedule.

Superb squad management on Wednesday though, making those 5 changes!

Early changes if winning (half time or 60 mins): James for Rashford, Garner for Fred.
Later change: Gomes for Greenwood (into #10, Lingard RW)
I feel goals for Greenwood in this one, and James too if he plays on the left.

Farke wanted to change his attack (Pukki, Cantwell and Buendia) after their poor performances against Southampton and wanted to try something new too after just 3 goals in their last 11 PL games.

I expect nothing less than a 2+ goal win. I imagine the deadwood will be getting minutes and we will rest the starters, I think we'll see Pereira from the start, and Lingard as a sub.

I’d play the subs who actually deserve game time and can be trusted to deliver with the first XI filling the gaps. Those on the way out can sit on the bench and only come on if the situation allows. No more Lingard and Pereira holding us back for the love of God.

    ............. Romero
    Dalot Bailly Maguire Williams
    .... McSauce Fred Mata
    ... James Ighalo Rashford

I’d like to play Bruno, Pogba, Matic, Martial etc. every game, but we are playing twice a week until the end of the season and it isn’t sustainable.
