Probably not wise to put a player with no pre-season behind him against Kroos,Modric etc... Let Herrera, Fellaini Pogba handle them and put Pereira in to make them chase in the 2nd.

    Losing to Comeback Winning!
Darmian and Blind don't compliment eachother. At all.
Played well together, good combination in both defending and attacking from our left back side last game against Sampdoria. Just one game so far though.

Defensively, both players cover each other. Darmian always provides good covering as Blind love to press and tackle hard. Darmian can run up-and-down the left wing all game long with Blind provides the playmaking passes from the back which Darmian lacks. With Blind at LCB he can utilize his trademark long passes. Darmian offers constant immediate width on the left wing with his overlapping runs, and can quickly fall back to help defence with his big stamina and pace, which Blind couldn't. Both also mark opponents well. There is that one occasion last game where Blind interchange position with Darmian, delivering that one good deep cross.

In theory, their combo in 3-at-the-back formation can work splendidly. One game to prove it so far.

Managed one, lost one in the UEFA Super Cup.

    2003: Milan 1:0 Porto

As for domestic, I'll come back to you later.
Think he lost against Bayern too. He played with Chelsea (as Europa winners) and lost against Bayern.

    Also,
You have never won the UEFA Super Cup as a coach. What would it mean to win it now?

Mourinho: Every time I've contested the UEFA Super Cup, it was as the Europa League winners. When I won the Champions League with Porto, I left Porto. When I won the Champions League with Inter, I left Inter. So I've never contested the UEFA Super Cup as the strongest team. It's the same story this time: I'm taking Manchester United to play against Real Madrid, the Champions League winners. Hopefully this time we can do it.

    2005: Arsenal 1:2 Chelsea
    2006: Liverpool 2:1 Chelsea

    2008: Inter 2:2 Roma (6:5 p)
    2009: Inter 1:2 Lazio
2011 (agg): Barcelona 5:4 Real Madrid

What is the record for UL vs CL in the SC? Not that it matters, just curious.

    Is Ronaldo playing?
    Is he even playing though?

By the way, is this fixture counted as a competitive match? I think we can win this, Jose Mourinho is the best manager in a one-off cup final although this could be his sternest test as Real Madrid is clearly a much better team than us and they seem to have won every final they've been in recent years, esp under Zidane.

I'm hoping for a Mourinho masterclass. 2-1 to us. Lukaku and Mikhi to score. The only question is whether we play Matic in the starting 11.

If we win this, we've officially done the treble. If we lose, oh well, just a glorified friendly.

    Also,
And it was that game that marked the beginning of the end of Lukaku's relationship with Jose at Chelsea. He lost the all important penalty and never got over it.

Are we about to see the flip side of that incidence tomorrow? I.e Lukaku scores and wins it for United to mark a new relationship with Jose at United. :D

I think if Ronaldo playing he won't be that ready as he missed all their pre season games.

According to Mourinho, we won 2.5 trophies last season. Assuming this is another half a trophy, I think you could just about call it a treble.

    Matic
    Pogba
    Herrera

Lukaku and Rashford both starting now against Real Madrid for a trophy might be a stretch. Although I sure hope Mourinho could be that brave.

Martial will start. Think the right side is between Mkhi and Rashford, most likely with Mkhi getting the nod. Would love Matic to start and play at least 60 minutes so he's more or less ready to go at the start of the season too.

    The biggest question is 3-5-2 or 4-3-3. I've went with 4-3-3;

    ........................de Gea
    Valencia .. Lindelof .. Smalling .. Darmian
    ..........................Matic
    ...............Herrera ...... Pogba
    Mkhitaryan .......................... Martial
    .........................Lukaku

Bailly in for Smalling and I think this is how we will line up v West Ham.

Why does everyone seem to think it will be 352 btw? We haven't played that once in preseason have we?

We played it in our last game. Mhiki and Lukaku up top, Pogba, Pereira and Matic in the middle, Darmian and Valencia on the wings and Blind, Lindelöf and Smalling (I think) in defence.

Doesn't it feel great to be back in games like this? You only play them when you win in Europe. I hope we'll be back in it more regularly in the coming years. Preferably as Champions League winners of course.

Yes we have. First pre-season game for both halves. Second half of the game against Valerenga too...

I don't think our team is quite ready yet and Madrid have game changers who can seal things for them. I also don't like our lack of options at CB.

Hoping for a close game but ultimately I'll be very surprised if we win this.
