Pogba should use his brain more often.

Rashford had to put that ball on the net.

Mourinho is building a real good team here, and a very promising part is coming you can't deny that hope ED brings him what he wants exactly so that he will be the only one to blame if failed this season.

We can't start Lingard any more IMO.
Fellaini has the spirit that we all love to see with United shirt.
Promising season ahead I reckon, HOPE.

No he doesn't, his knee is further forward, but it was close and you can't begrudge a decision either way.

    Still offside though :p
Seen a still with the line. Only his arm is beyond smalling's foot. Arm doesn't count for offside.

Because the managers default mode is that way mate. Am sure you will agree with me that if Pep or Zidane where to be the ones in charge of our team Fellaini wont be the player to come in.
I respect what mourinho has done in the game but am not a fan of how he sets his team up or his idas about breaking the opposition defence.
May be am a football purist but here is hoping we have a successful season.

Fellaini actually made us play better.

It's a pity he often gets the stick but we need to set aside the paradigms we have of him and judge him strictly on each game.

He was good both in the air and with the ball at his feet.

At the very least, he was much better than Pogba and Herrera.

Nevertheless, it beats me why Jose did not play Martial and Rashford from the start. The Real defence was begging to be stretched and Rashford proved that when he came in. Lingard should never have started.

Heh didn't look like it from the still. We're splitting hairs anyways. If it's offside, it's literally only his shoulder
Yeah I know. As I said before you can bemoan decisions like that one either way.

For what it's worth, i'd be pissed if they lost 3 minutes using VAR on that. Same with Lukaku's goal(which also looked onside from the still, just barely)

Agreed. It was more the persistent fouls awarded for Madrid players simply falling over any time they were under pressure that was more of a problem. ;)

Most were actual fouls, but i agree, ref was pretty one sided in that too, got a few calls wrong, including one against pogba at the beginning which might've resulted in a good chance

Just want to say that Smalling was immense last night. He's had plenty of stick of late but thought he, matic and darmian were very good.

Matic was our best player, Smalling did very well. He had a late tackle on Benzema that was brilliant. Lindelof was kinda meh, though.

Darmian did great, but I still miss some width with a LB bombing forward. He doesn't offer much in this sense.

    Thought that was Lindelöf?

Interesting how we often each see the game differently. At best I thought Smalling was adequate as were the rest of the back division - DDG excepted. The reason for my view is that whilst I would concede that Smalling and others made some timely interceptions the defence was still breached twice and it could have been several times more. The worst charge I personally make about the back 4 is that distribution forward was downright awful. Its all well and good clearing your lines but if that just results in hoofing the ball back to the opposition you will have to forgive me if I reckon that frankly they should be doing better. I'd rather the ball ended up in row Z than back at the feet of the opposing midfielders and attackers. So for me neither Smalling nor Valencia nor Darmian nor Lindelof had anything much to congratulate themselves for.

Just my take and as I said at the start ------- each of us often see the game differently.

Oh and to finish. If we had one player anywhere near immense yesterday it was Matic.

The sooner Bailly gets back the better and thats a real climbdown for me for after the Afro Nations Cup of last year I was all for writing him off.

Distribution has never been Smallings forte. In fact he's terrible at it. That's what Lindelof was supposedly bought for. I thought defensively and positionally Smalling was very good. It was between Valencia and Lindelof that we were exposed. Madrid didn't create anything on the right flank and darmian is a solid defender despite his attacking deficiencies.

Matic was very good, I agree.
