Strongest side and go for this. Best chance of a trophy it should be. Fa cup got City so slightly harder.

Two legs should help us too if we are the better side which I hope.

Rest everyone vs Newcastle if we need too since we can win that one anyway and the league is lost anyway.

    Heads up

This game is on the 18th of Feb (Thursday) at 17:55 in Turin. The OP date is wrong.

Not that you were going to watch this anyway. :)

There is one of these at the start of each match day thread immediately after a poor result , I wouldn’t take much notice . He’ll be ok after a nights sleep and will be posting in the match day thread Thursday night about how shit we are .
    Who are you?

I'd leave both Marcus and Anthony on the bench.
Henderson, AWB, Bailly, Maguire, Shaw, McT, Matic, Greenwood, Bruno, James, Cavani.

With any luck, he’ll properly give up supporting us and just go and support Bayern.

I think we need to drop martial
I would say play him because this competition is more for our back up players and that is all martial should be for the rest of the season and rest the attackers this thursday that are actually productive for us.

    Hendo

    Telles
    Axel
    Bailly (if fit)
    AWB/Williams

    Matic
    Donny
    McT

    James
    Cavani
    Mata

I'd like us to try and play a flatter middle three - more of a 4-3-3 rather than a 4-2-3-1.

Think id play a team focused on giving fringe players minutes, a strong core and good counter attacking ability

    ---------------------Henderson-------------------------
    --------Tuanzebe---Lindelof----Maguire------
    Williams---Matic---Van De Beek---Telles
    --Greenwood-------Martial----------James

Give Bailly some minutes in prep for the league games

Honestly don't care about progression in this cup, as nice as it would be to win.

Start Amad if fit, our forward line needs a spark. Rest Bruno, Cavani, Shaw, Wan-Bissaka.

I think the Spanish coaching will be too much for us. British and Norwegian coaching might show some viking spirit but it's very much stuck in that time. Whereas Spanish coaching is modern, we'll see some "patrones de juego", Carrick probably doesn't even know what that means.

Would do something like this. Use Diallo as a sub. Half rotation and half starters. Will be a tough game but we should take it seriously enough like the FA Cup, as it's a safety net for the CL, it's a trophy which we need, and even if we get top 4 and FA Cup, it's an added bonus to be in the 1st pot and not in the 3rd pot for the group phase next year.

I like this a lot in theory but we would surely be beaten? We have to give the fringe players minutes and chances to displace misfiring first team players and the EL is the only real chance to do it. I’d love to see a youth debut but I doubt sociadad are the team to be taking lightly. Anyway it doesn’t matter, it’s Ole. He will probably play our strongest team but with Telles and VDB in for Bruno and Shaw. Hendo in for DDG.

I don't get the "put out the kids/2nd string" talk. This team is in serious need of a trophy. No way in hell Ole will throw this away while we're still in it. The players will want it too.
Rotation is one thing but putting out an entire squad setup for failure is pointless.
Bring in Henderson, Bailly, Diallo, and DVB for DDG, Lindelof, McT, and Martial or Rashford. The rest should be regular starters.

Drop some underperformers, play Bailly, VdB, Dan James, Greenwood and "He who shall not be named" if he's still alive.

Give Amad minutes of the bench if he's not ill.

Have to use the squad here, league form has dipped and we could be dragged Into top 4 fight very easily with 1-2 more bad results. Chelsea & City coming up, we have more chance of winning the FA Cup than the Europa League IMO and the latter would impact our Premier League form much more due to the amount of games left.

Obviously, I'd like us to win the trophy and stay in the competition, but if there's one competition where we can rest players and get knocked out with less consequence it's this one.

Henderson, Williams, Tuanzebe, Bailly, Telles, Matic, Van de Beek, Diallo etc should be playing minutes here. Some first teamers will start though IMO, it isn't going to be a case of changing the entire XI from West Brom.

    Henderson
    Tuanzebe Bailly Maguire Telles
    Van de Beek Matic
    Greenwood Bruno James
    Martial

We can make five substitutions right?

Diallo, Williams, Mata etc should be getting on, maybe one of them even starting. Think Maguire definitely still plays, I'm 50/50 with it being Bruno/Mata. I think I'd rather we started Mata though.

Spanish opponent and we're in a bad run.

Ole is going to set us up to not lose and hope we can take them down at home instead.

Fellaini got sent off the last time we played this fixture didn’t he? Anyway, I’d go:

    Henderson*
    AWB Bailly Maguire Shaw
    McT VdB
    Greenwood Bruno James
    Cavani

*Should be DDG, who should have been relegated to cup goalkeeper already.

2-2 draw. Isak is unfortunately a guarantee to tear Maguire and Lindelof (that’s who Ole will play yet again for no reason) apart. We have enough to score as well though, as attack isn’t our problem, defence is.

Losing constantly in the latter stages of cups - "Ugh, who cares about this cup"

Will one of these brainboxes tell me where this team's winning mentality is supposed to come from other than trying fecking hard to, ya know, win something?
In another few transfer windows, once we've cleared the deadwood etc. etc.

That’s cool because I was going to suggest throwing him on despite illness or injury

Start slow as we almost always do and I reckon we'll be in for a long old night. I believe Oryazabal (their top scorer) has recovered from an injury doubt, and I can't remember a single game David Silva has played against us where he hasn't shown up.

Add in the massive miss that is Paul Pogba, and the fact that genuinely nobody other than our LB and our no.10 are in good form, this feels like it will be such a tetchy game to watch.

I definitely think Ole will set us up to not lose and that will backfire. They are a decent team and will likely be up for it more than us. I think we can win the tie, but it's not going to be easy and we could get dumped out early.

By the way, I thought EL was doing away with the home/away fixtures in the early parts of the knockout stages? Or was that only last year?

I can't see why we can't use diallo, we have thrown youth players into the first 11 in the premier league and europe before.
