So Lingard is a serial failure at United (your words) and a loan at West Ham - playing in the same competition we're looking to win and being excellent in it - doesn't change that. Van de Beek has been a serial failure but him playing for his national team does change that.
VDB helped lead an Ajax side to the SF of the champions league, lauded in Europe, and for his own sake should’ve been signed for Madrid but for the pandemic. Apart from the fa cup winner and a short spell under Jose, please tell me of Lingard’s other highlights here? He is a failure at United and suited for a mid table side like West Ham.

Think Ole bought Sancho and thinks that solves a lot of the problems, without looking at precisely why he thrived at Dortmund. What their fullbacks are like, what their midfield is like, what their movement off the ball is like.

time and time again he’s pulled games around at half time. Today it was going the same way until the players inexplicably started making mistakes letting southampton back in the game.
We could of played for another 4 hours and we’d still of drawn that game

Blimey, I thought I didn't rate him but it turns out the people wanting him to play are relying on stuff that didn't even happen in this decade or country.

Some people are actually this deluded that they think he's literally clueless. You're a clown

Why did we take Fred off to bring Mctominay on when we were hoping to kick on and get a second goal. Two holding midfielders makes us look clueless of ideas going forward. Our only threat is to resort back to a counterattack.
To bring Sancho on and play him on the left talk about falling into old habits from the management.
Total lack of threat from him out there and how to blow the lads confidence.
Poor management all round all day.

Thier goal was incredibly lucky. Was a blatant foul on bruno. Saying that we created enough chances to win. Several headers were missed which was disappointing. Between 70 mins and full time was shocking. Sloppy passes galore inviting pressure onto us. 2 points dropped.

I agree, was always a priority to me. As poor as many were today, the lack of anything in the middle was poor. Fred is simpl ynot good enough, Matic comes too deep and slows play down, is only really effective from the bench protecting the lead, VDB still anomynous and Mctominay is average. And forget Pogba playing there, when he was deep there were instances of him bein sloppy and he was our best player.

SHaw was ok first half and faded....the rest of the defence were shocking. I am a fan of Bissaka but he was lazy defensively and poor on the ball today, liek he regressed two seasons again today. Maguire was also half asleep on the ball and Lindelof also looked like he regressed from a decent last 3/4 months....did he even win a challenge of complete a non sideways or backwards pass all game.....and as for Martial.....and then we are bringing Lingard on....pitiful

Two games in only.....yet I am thinking the same thing I have thought for the last 3/4 seasons, we have made good signings but not enough of them. And half the reason for that is yet again our fgailure to move players on. Our squad is bloated with talented yet inconsistent players and lots of average ones. Should have been four signings this summer and as you say, failure to bring in a central midfielder will be a very costly error this summer
well you look at how we used to only give a year extension to players over 30, to constantly extending contracts for older players and players clearly not in our plan and what do we expect? Also the fact that we had to over pay for years to try to remain relevant.

Yeah, he couldn’t be bothered to think about that at all.

    Erm it was 1-1 mate
Yeh. Sorry. Lost the plot for a moment.
We were so bad, it just felt like a loss.

The point still stands though. You only get to lose three or four games at most.
We could just as easily lost that game.

Yes, but surely there is a responsibility on the player to adapt and change their game if necessary to improve. Martial being a static stroller has been discussed on here for years, he needs a mentality shift to fufill his potential.
I agree with you but you cannot blame a tiger for having stripes. Martial is what he is. If he cannot motivate himself then OGS needs to identify that via his performances and sell him

I got back from Greece early hours of this morning and was looking forward to a lazy day and this match...
Damn … I am so United focused that even on holidays I made this match my main activity for this weekend. Feels awful if you do this and then they disappoint you :(

It was pretty much the same as last year, that's the problem. That team wasn't good enough to realistically challenge for the title, and neither is this one.

Sancho and Varane coming in should change that somewhat, but we need more. Some of these guys aren't even good enough for the bench at City and Chelsea.
The poster I was replying to was blaming Ole for a poor team selection.

The team is always gonna be pretty much the same at the previous year, as we aren't an oil club and can't buy a brand new top quality team every summer.

Shite 70 on from everyone. It's these games we need to win for trophy's. Ole should be on the show, Hoarders.

Rolled my eyes when I saw Martial starting. At this point I'll take a new microwave for him.

Fred can feck off. He's th new Ashley Cole. Gonna end up spending the rest of his career here.

I thought Sanch did okay. It'll take time.

    Pogba played well.

Greenwood should be starting up front

We had plenty of chances to put this match away, just couldn't convert.

Pretty hard to get in a rhythm when the central striker is immobile and disinterested, and the midfield seems to have one player who has to do too much to cover for a relatively decent DM who has trouble with the pace of the game. You can see Matic positions himself better than most, but once there his leg speed is gone.

Ole really needs to figure out how to use players like DVB, McTominlay as support to the real midfield or it will be a diff to compete , and more importantly don’t play Martial ( good idea to sell him)

I saw the team selection and instantly worried.

Matic is well past it and we all knew Southampton would play with energy and look to break and excite the home crowd. Matic just cannot cope with the pace of the game any longer. He's poor off the ball, abysmal against a press and so slow with the ball it's laughable.

Martial. Hasn't had a good pre-season. Doesn't look sharp. His place in the squad is under question with Cavani staying and Sancho coming in. does he look motivated and interested in making a stake for his place, in his preferred central role? Did he hell. Awful performance and the lack of effort just highlights his time here.

Greenwood played well centrally against leeds so should have kept his spot there. Pogba will either be great or non existent from the left and we just did not look capable of getting a win. Wan Bissaka was poor, Fred was poor (albeit playing midfield on his own), Fernandes was poor. Maguire and Lindelof we're slow to react to everything and the whole team literally played at a snails pace.

It was painful to watch - how slow and predictable we are. No running off the ball, no movement. No desire to pick a pass or get on the ball. Walking football at best.

When we are still bringing on Lingard to change the game, we are doomed.

I've no doubt there are better days ahead, but this league is relentless. You cannot play half arsed like we did, no way.
