Sunderland Association Football Club is a professional football club based in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England. The club was founded as Sunderland & District Teachers Association Football Club by schoolmaster James Allan in what has commonly been believed to be October 1879. They played several years in the FA Cup and local cup competitions before joining the Football League in the 1890–91 season in place of Stoke.

Tom Watson became Sunderland's first manager when he was appointed in 1888. During the late 19th century, they were declared the "Team of All Talents" by William McGregor, the founder of the league. Sunderland won the league championship in the 1891–92 season, one season after joining The Football League. Sunderland successfully defended the title the following season. In the process, they became the first team to score 100 goals in a season, a feat not matched until 1919–20. They played in the top league in England until the 1957–58, season when they were relegated into the Second Division.

Sunderland are English top-flight's sixth most successful club of all time, The club has won six titles in the First Division, and finished runners-up five times. The club has also won the FA Cup twice. Traditionally, Sunderland's two main rivals have been Newcastle United and Middlesbrough, against whom the Tyne–Wear derby and Tees–Wear derby are competed for respectively. They play their home games at the Stadium of Light.

They have nothing to play for; any pressure that was on us is now officially off our shoulders. Hope to see some robust, attacking football. Let's get Bruno that record now.

Should be winning this for sure.

    Dalot
    Maguire
    Heaven
    Shaw

    Mainoo
    Casemiro
    Bruno

    Mount
    Sesko
    Cunha

I'd probably give Mount a game over Mbeumo and Cunha personally

Why? Let’s finish the season strong and let that poor fecker get a hair cut

would love to give a few minutes to
    Thwaites Gabriel and the Fletchers

    What's this ? A 3pm kick off ?
    Is that even legal?

Sunderland long playing with their beach ball. We might be too though. Just give it a go and try to score a few goals, play some attacking football.

Dorgu left back please. My only request for this game.

Shea Lacey's the one for me. I thought he looked quite good with his limited minutes back in January, and neither Mbeumo nor Amad have really earned their place in the side lately.

He has not played well at left back.

When? In his one start there against Brighton? And he played well enough in that game anyway.

We’ve played a back 4 for 4 games he has started in during his whole United career. One he started at left back (Brighton), one at right wing (Burnley) and two at left wing (City and Arsenal). We have not had a proper look at him at left back (or any position other than left wing back really, seeing as we are talking about 4 games).

I didn't include him as he has been in the squad for a while now

Hold off on playing the youth until we’ve guaranteed 3rd spot. Win vs Sunderland and that’s it. Sesko to start if he’s fit, but wouldn’t force the issue.

    Lammens
    Dalot - Maguire - Heaven - Shaw
    Casemiro - Mainoo
    Amad - Bruno - Cunha
    Mbeumo

Would like to see Lacey get at least a half.

Heaven and Maguire to maintain their partnership at the back.

Bruno with an assist or two ;)

Miss the days of using youth players towards the end of a season.

I'd like to see Mazraoui get a start. I think he earned it with his stellar performance against Chelsea as a stand-in centre back. Don't really think it'd do much harm to give either Dalot or Shaw a rest for this one either.

Got to be winning this one. Let’s get some more goals (and assists for Bruno, please!). Think it’ll be tight but we should get a win.

Our first 3pm kick off since October. Coincidentally, we played Sunderland in that game.

Anyway, I’m confident. 3-0 win for us

What I want to see from the last 3 games is for that guy to get his haircut and Bruno to break the record. Today was pretty unlucky for Bruno's stats...

I’m a bit concerned that the players will down tools now that CL football has been secured. Hope I’m wrong and we go out to win every single game left

This United Strand lad is about to become relevant again. This would make it 4 in a row!

We were one point ahead of them when Amorim was sacked.

Ha good point. I am thinking lwb.

Still j would rather see him in that 3 behind the striker. Mbeumo has not scored or assisted since February and amad not since 2025 so one of both of them should be benched for him in my opinion.

is there a difference in which stage we enter the CL based on where we finish - 3rd, 4th or 5th? If there isn’t a discernible difference I’d play the kids

Now that were as good as third, I'm here for this drama again. Let's get to 4 in a row!

No difference and im all for some young players getting on the park but we really could use this game to get Mbeumo's confidence up again.

I'd go same team again. Start being more generous with the subs now and let the likes of Amad, Dorgu, Mount get some games from 60 minutes onwards.

The only possible change in starting lineup is we could give Yoro-Heaven CB partnership a runout to give them some development games under no pressure as the league is done. We're getting no long term benefit from playing Maguire or Martinez at this point. However if Carrick feels he may still need to win the final 3 to secure the permanent job, then he's best going with Maguire-Heaven.

Hopefully Sesko is back. Amad hasn't been great for a while now, but may still get a start here if Big Ben is out.

We really should be confirming third place soon, Sunderland has gone off the boil compared to a few months ago and even their home form has dipped since they lost to Liverpool back in February. They've lost at home to Fulham, Brighton and Forest since then, although they beat Spurs in their other home game.

A draw for us isn't a disaster - Liverpool & Villa have to play each other and we also have Forest at Old Trafford where you'd fancy us to get more points, but it would be nice to get to 70 points for a strong finish.

If we can pick up at least some points then it'll be easier for Carrick to get some younger players involved. Particularly Thwaites, Lacey and Obi who I'd hope will get minutes in the remaining games and then go on the pre season tour. Hopefully they can be part of the squad next season.
