I think this could be a really boring game. Neither team has much to play for and so I can imagine a real lack of intensity in this game.

Sunderland can still make it to Europe under the right circumstances. They have everything to play for.

Hope we get another two wins this season. Secures 3rd and 70 points is a decent haul, considering the situation Carrick took over. Sunderland are not in great form, and have little to play for. I just hope the team has enough hunger and pride to really give it a go and finish the season on a high.

Interesting match for us, it will show us what we can do against a good defensive team and whether we will have the hunger to tie up third. There is a psychological benefit to finishing third and I hope we seal it in the next two games.

To be fair, we might not even need to do much to secure 3rd. Liverpool and Villa play each other, and they meet Chelsea and City respectively. Villa also have the Europa League to worry about. Could easily see a situation where each of them just get 4-5 points, and then we are 3rd anyway.

But like you say, I really want this team to win as many games as possible and finish on a high. Considering we'll only play 40 games, it would be disappointing if they just phone it in.

is there a difference in which stage we enter the CL based on where we finish - 3rd, 4th or 5th? If there isn’t a discernible difference I’d play the kids
About £2.5 million difference between each position I think so there is a financial incentive. The players possibly have a bonus linked in there too.

Yep, it's the end of the season and we do need to see whether Carrick has it in him to maintain that winning mentality, that focus and hunger even when there is little at stake. That's how top teams get to and stay at the top.

Having said that I'd would also like to see him integrating some of the youth we expect to play roles next season like Lacey and the Fletcher boys. We don't know how the summer will shape up but I imagine we will drop at least £120m on the midfield (£70m for either Baleba or Tchoaumeni plus £50m or thereabouts for another), we will need a LB and LW so that's easily another £120m and then sales to balance the books. So youth will likely play a key role in supplementing the squad and their integration needs to start now.

Sunderland will want to finish above Newcastle. I reckon this one will be a score draw. Hopefully Amad gets some minutes so he can soak in the warm reception. They love him over there.

Not only that, but at this point, you can imagine that the greater priority for many of our players would be to ensure availability for the World Cup. Nobody wants to be getting injured in a dead rubber so close to the showpiece.

First game at Sunderland since April 2017.

    Lammens
    Dalot - Maguire - Heaven - Shaw
    Casemiro - Mainoo
    Mbeumo - Bruno - Cunha
    Šeško

Or Amad RW and Mbeumo number 9.

Cunha up top with dorginho and mount on the wing please. As good as heaven has been, Licha with those long balls is a plus for Cunha and Dorgu runs

Why are some fans writing as if we have nothing to play for?We still have alot to play for.

    (1) Third place is not yet secured, finishing third will make us few millions richer than finishing fourth.

(2)Bruno is chasing the assist record, the better the attackers we play, the higher his chances of breaking thaz record.

(3)Finishing +70 points given a better psychological boost than finishing +60 points.

(4)Carrick is still 'interviewing' for the job,and will likely put his best foot(best players) forward.

I hope our players and the memeberd of staff take this match as well as our remaining matches seriously. .

I think Mount Dorgu and Licha will probably start this game. I hope if he's fit he keeps starting Sesko but I can see him playing Zirkzee for once. Maz for a run out at LB/RB depending on who is fitter out of Shaw and Dalot. I don't think we will see Ugarte get a start here again under Carrick. Most of all I'd love to see the likes of Thwaites or Lacy getting getting 15-20 minutes at some point.

Bruno will 100% start all the remaining games

Locking up third place would be great, and I believe we just need four points to do that.

    PL results here:

    16/17 - W 3-0 (Ibrahimovic, Mkhitaryan, Rashford)
    15/16 - L 2-1 (Martial)

    13/14 - W 2-1 (Januzaj x2)
    12/13 - W 1-0 (OG)
    11/12 - W 1-0 (Rooney)
    10/11 - D 0-0
    09/10 - W 1-0 (Nani)
    08/09 - W 2-1 (Scholes, Macheda)
    07/08 - W 4-0 (Rooney, Saha x2, Ronaldo)
    05/06 - W 3-1 (Van Nistelrooy, Rooney, Rossi)
    02/03 - D 1-1 (Giggs)
    01/02 - W 3-1 (OG, Giggs, Cole)
    00/01 - W 1-0 (Cole)
    99/00 - D 2-2 (Keane, Butt)
    96/97 - L 2-1 (OG)

Since getting to 40 points, and particularly last 5 games, Sunderland players have dropped a few levels and practically on the beech! So fully expecting them to be up for their cup final!

    Lammens

    Mazraoui
    Yoro
    Heaven
    Shaw

    Mainoo
    Casemiro
    Bruno

    Lacey
    Sesko
    Cunha

Hopefully we see Shea Lacey and maybe one of other youngters, now we dont havemuch to play for. At least they can be in a loan/shopping window and can attract clubs from Championship to scure a decent loan

    Lammens
    Dalot Maguire Heaven Maz
    Casemiro Mainoo
    Mbeumo Bruno Cunha
    Sesko
If Sesko is out change the front 4 to this.

    Mbeumo Bruno Mount
    Cunha

I’d like to see kamason and Thwaites on the bench in the next couple of games and maybe gets some minutes if it’s possible. Also Dorgu at left back in one of the games at least. Hopefully get to see him there in a Carrick team full of confidence.

I would say there is a big chance of that once 3rd spot is wrapped up.
Why? It really makes no difference if we're 3rd, 4th, or 5th. £3M per place in extra TV money, which is something, but it's probably worth that to see more of the young players.

I'd go pretty heavy with the likes of Dorgu/Amad/Zirkzee and use the likes of Lacey as subs.

Can be Shop Window Time for Zirkzee, Mount, Ugarte and... who else do we need to get rid of that is still in M16? The others are all out on loan. Bayindir... but I still wouldn't give him any minutes.

This is one of those games the players could easily not turn up for. 2-1 loss i think. But we do have a good record there. So maybe.

Looking forward to Bruno getting a penalty and pulling off a Messi/Neymar/Suarez and passing it to an attacker to score.

Yeah and Lacey, gut feeling is Carrick will want to finish third so still going to play strong teams to secure it

I agree. Put the game to bed, then bring in the kids or try Dorgu at fullback or whatever. Carrick should be treating every game as a must-win, try and bring back that mentality.

Have you seen Sunderlands recent results? Mean while united have the most points from the last 6 games of any team in the prem.

Sunderland and Forest will be tough games. More so Forest as Sunderland have dropped off a bit.
