    Struggled at the Stadium of Light even when we were on top form and had a great team.

    Probably the same now.

    I'm thinking:

    De Gea

    Benatia, Smalling, Evans

    Cuadrado, Vidal, Herrera, Di Maria
    Mata

    Van Persie, Rooney

    Bench: Amos, Rojo, Jones, Young, Fletcher, Kagawa, Januzaj

    Not serious, but I do hope we sign a couple of these players. Benatia's looking good right now.

    Please no....we can't try things like that now

    And before Welbeck plays there....Mata > Kagawa > Januzaj > Rooney

    Welbeck's favourite position is as striker so he should play there in the 3-5-2 formation
    He would bring pace and power to the position.

    In your dreams mate. For all the talk, we'll close the window with what we've got, with maybe one or two players leaving.

    Too many matches too quick probably was the reason we had no pace against swansea,Players will have more rest for the sunderland game.I hope we have a better game.

    Impossible to predict anything with our team at the moment. I'm going to take 2-1 to United but would not at all be surprised if we lost 2-1 or 1-0.

    Hopefully Evans/Rafael will be back for this, if not then no need for drama or mass suicide, just stick with 532 as it worked well in pre-season and i recon it will work a lot smoother away from home.

    Drill it into the players all week....TEAM TEAM TEAM! keep the shape and believe in what you are doing.

    We'd destroy them. We'd destroy everyone short of City, Chelsea and maybe Arsenal.

    Completely sickening knowing how easy it would be to get all 3, yet having that gut feeling saying we won't, solely because Woody simply wants us to fail or something.

    I don't know what to expect from United in this one. LVG stated we lack quality wingers and defenders and Swansea clash showed that players aren't ready.

    If we won't be able to take something from this game then honestly the club is out of control.

    Enough time to prepare for this. Hope Welbeck and RvP are back. I'll take ugly 1-0 wins until the players get used to a new way of playing.
    1-0 pen Rooney :D
    Di Maria to win the pen of course!

    I think we will be fine. Hopefully a few of our injured players will be back. I'd like to see the CMs have more of the ball and our defenders less. Also more purposeful passing. LvG will get it right eventually.

    If a couple of the missing players return and the likes of Fletcher, Smalling and Mata up their individual game we'll be okay. Our biggest problem was rhythm. We're capable of holding the ball, we've shown we can knock it about in pre-season against decent sides but we had no flow or rhythm in our game today and if you're going to use a system that cries out for pure technical skill you have to force those flowing moves. The fact we weren't even trying them today was what alarmed me. It was simply back to basics.

    Hopefully van Gaal's golden balls return next week.

    Very tough game but if we at the very least continue our Moyes form then we 'should' be better away from home. Still don't see a win though, not after today :(

    The team is playing better than it did under moyes but still not good enough... at best, a draw against sunderland, no chance for a win, not with this current squad..... hopefully they sign some quality CB's & CM's before the transfer window closes, otherwise we will remain a mid table team.

    This won't be easy of course. We really need Welbeck and/or van Persie back for this and at least a defender or two back from injury.

    If none of our other strikers are fit, I would start Januzaj + Rooney and drop Hernandez to the bench (if he's still here).

    I hope we can get Rafael/Valencia back. If not I hope we would have signed a defender by the next Friday.

    It's going to be a very difficult game. We're already putting ourselves under pressure and we're only heading into the 2nd game of the season!

    We will bounce back and win this Confidently... Expect more of our squad to be available and hopefully one or 2 additions to the squad. Lvg will put the fire under their tails

    I wonder how Welbeck would do as a CAM.
    he played there against RM in CL and was our best player. he is very versatile but at CAM we should use our most gifted/creative palyers suited to that role ie Mata/kagawa. Welbse should play upfront with van Persie, rooney on the bench. Anyway robin is not ready and who knows if welbeck is fit for upcoming match so I would go out with rooney and januzaj upfront, he can't do worse than hernandez. onder if rafa's ready as well..

    We don't have pace in the squad anyway it's the reason we don't play 4-3-3 as we don't have the players to do it anyway

    De Gea
    Jones Smalling Evans
    Rafael Fletcher Herrera Young
    Mata
    RVP Rooney

    Hopefully we will have a CB in by then and RVP should be available and will look forward to seeing what him Rooney and Mata can do in this formation where none of them have an excuse so players won't be getting in RVP's way and Rooney won't be Angry and Confused and Mata won't be so far on the right that he was nearly back in London. Need a top drawer CM aswell asap Hope it's Vidal

    While the first game was disheartening, it at least provided three things:

    1) Got the team back down to earth after winning a mean nothing trophy in N.A. and going unbeaten despite not playing so well later on in pre-season. Not that they're on Cloud 9 after winning the ICC following last seasons disaster, but they need to know they're not talented enough to win without full effort from everyone

    2) More movement from players than the Moyes era. Yes, alot of it didn't amount to much nor was the passing crisp, but there were some improvements that just need to be tinkered

    3) Made LVG see how big of a hole there is between the goalie and the No. 10. I'd rather we lose now to Swansea than coast through the relatively easy early schedule and get shown up by better competition after the window closes

    Will be interesting to see who comes back from injury and who they sign this week. But honestly if this team has what it takes to get over the mental and confidence issues stemming from last season, they have to go into games vs the likes of Sunderland as if they're going to win.

    SUBS: Amos, Blackett, Valencia, Young, Fletcher, Kagawa, van Persie.

    Please be fit Jonny, Rafa and Danny. Fully believe those three can make a real difference.
    Januzaj was awful at wingback against Swansea, only got better when we switched to 4-3-3.

    Januzaj is a little under-rated I think in the work he puts in on the defensive side of the field. He isn't Nani who shows far more interest on the counter, he will get back and mark his man and try his best to get into positions to block passes. Young may seem like he covers players better, but he's just playing the part, I rarely seem him take the ball away from the other team when he's defending or be all that effective in slowing down build up around him

    I'd give anything to have Benatia and Rojo as options to play at the back for this game. I hope we do.

    No Fletcher no Hernandez no Nani no Smalling plz. Feel sad after yesterday's game and IMO more points will be dropped unless we sign 1-2 players this week to raise our confidence in the squad a bit.

    I'm going to this game and it's safe to say my away from Old Trafford record isn't great... 3 wins, 5 draws, 2 defeats.

    Van Persie has to play some part. Hopefully Rafael or Valencia are fit to go at RWB. Not sure where we can play Januzaj in the 352 system but he has to play.

    If we play 3-5-2:

    Fletcher out -> Cleverley in
    Mata out -> Kagawa in
    Hernandez out -> RVP in
    Januzaj out -> James in.....Young RWB, James LWB
    Smalling out -> Evans in
