I have the same reservation about Mata, but with rotation more important during this busy schedule and Stoke away four days after this match, I would rather start Mata in this match than a very physical battle against Stoke where there's a good chance he is completely nullified and anonymous.
I'd bring back Fellaini for Stoke.

Only blessing is Mata has had a few good performances for Chelsea at White hart lane.

The moon gave me flowers for funerals to come.
Have a feeling we'll get a draw this time, being so close to the Newcastle fixture the players might be a bit weary. Still our attackers were in fine form against the toon so hopefully we can pick up 3 points and solidify our position what with West Ham losing to Chelsea and could do so again against Arsenal
Spurs played today also and we were in cruise control second half.

People seemingly fail to understand that a heavy fixture list this time of year applies to every other team. What might effect us more than others is our fragile squad though.

I for one think we will definitely drop points in at least one of our next two games, but I wouldn't necessarily put it down to fatigue.

We've conceded 11 in our last 1260 minutes of football (averaging a goal conceded every 1.28 games), including games against Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Liverpool, West Ham, Everton and Southampton and you think we'll concede 3 against Spurs?
Pexbo, you are being too logical.

Disappointed with anything less than 3 points here. Spurs have been even luckier than we have this season. Ridiculously fortunate in most of the games i've watched them and lost 4 games already at home this season in the league. Hugely reliant on Kane, Eriksen and Lloris. They're weak at the back, uninspiring in centre midfield and hit or miss out wide. With the attacking talent we have at our disposal we should really have too much for them.

I think it is certain we will see another long range pass from Rooney to RVP vs Spurs.

Think we'll put up a solid performance. We'll concede 1 (we haven't conceded more than one in a match since WBA i think) and score more than them. Hopefully RVP is fit to start, if not Falcao as the lone striker, or Wazza up top with him. Think falcao will start seeing as he was subbed quite early in the last match.
Shame we'll be without Di Maria, Herrera, Fellaini, Rojo, Januzaj and some others but that's basically been our luck so far.
Chris Smalling hopefully starts seeing as he was on the bench and Mcnair, as good as i think he can become, doesn't fill me with confidence atm.
Evans was relatively good against Newcastle so he'll start.
Valencia has been good so Rafael may have to be content with the bench, but when shaw's back i expect us to revert to 4 at the back so then Rafa can return.

    Line-up

    DDG

    Jones Smalling Evans
    Valencia Young
    Carra Wazza
    Mata
    RVP Falcao
Result: 3-1 (Copy of the 2009-10 game, minus the red card :D:D)

If RVP can't make it then i think Rooney should play upfront but then again who can play midfield? Not really liking Fletcher atm so i think Wilson up top will do.

I rarely enjoy Spurs away. I can't remember the last time we played well there. We usually grind out a draw, which would be okay I suppose
Seem to remember us somehow getting a 3-0/3-1 win in 12 or 13, despite being under the cosh for large periods. Just two crucially timed Young goals and a third by someone, possibly Rooney?

Smalling in for McNair the only change I would make

    DDG
    Jones Smalling Evans
    Valencia Carrick Rooney Young
    Mata
    Falcao RVP
If Herrera is healthy I'd start him over Mata for the extra energy and defensive work, and then use Mata against Stoke with Rooney up front and one of RVP or Falcao coming off the bench. 3 games in 6 days is a lot to ask of anyone but Rooney in our front 6.

Nobody else think he'll switch to a 4-2-3-1 for this game, with Rafael coming back into the starting lineup? Seems to prefer that formation in the tougher games (Chelsea, City and perhaps Arsenal(?)).

We played 3 in the back vs Arsenal. Also I think the reason we used the 4231/4141 in those matches was because LVG was still looking for a formation to help keep balance and it seems like the 352 is the formation where he feels we have most balance at the moment.

Ah right, thanks for clearing that up for me. Probably going to be 3 at the back again then!

Do you guys believe we will win if we go in with tha same team as Newcastle? Spurs seem to have a good record against us in recent times.

Rooney needs to have a stormer if we are going to have a chance!

Honestly it's awful isn't it. And when one of your best mates is a Spurs fan it gets really frustrating. Every week I give him stick for either bad results or, when they win, playing badly and it all comes back to bite me in these fixtures.

I think except for Lloris, Spurs' defence is quite weak. They panic in the box and quickly become all over the place. Rvp and Falcao's movement can unravel them. Spurs have some quality players in attack and can be dangerous. Fellaini could have been useful against Eriksen, who is their most potent creative player.

I don't think we'll see any players who were missing come into the side. They players haven't trained since Xmas eve and they're not training today either. New faces may come back at Stoke I reckon.

You make it sound like Spurs are the Champions and we are a mid table team lol. Spurs are a good team but we have a better chance at winning this then Spurs IMO.

I am pretty confident about this game more so than yesterday's game. Reason is we seem to have trouble making chances when teams sit deep and set-up for a draw, but as soon as we are given space we are lethal.

Vs Newcastle we only had 1 shot on target before our goal, after that we had 4 or 5 shot on target 2 of which were goals.

Spurs are at home so they won't sit back. Coupled with their shaky back four, i can see RVP and Falcao causing havoc.

    2-1/3-1 united!

I think we might see the same side tomorrow as AS18_ said Spurs won't sit back so it will make the game more open. Stoke might be a different proposition, so the injured players, might come back in then. We might need a bit more guile to open Stoke up and a Fellaini to ruffle a few feathers.

I'm confident of the win when we have our attacking players in such good form. Hopefully they all start again.

Assuming LVG is going to rotate the entire squad bar the subbed players, the lineup could probably be like this

    DDG

    Rafael / Valencia
    Smalling
    Carrick
    Blackett
    Rojo / Rafael

    Fellaini / Fletcher
    Herrera
    Di Maria / Januzaj

    Falcao
    Wilson

Suprised the media have gone quiet on LvG's comments that according to UEFA and FIFA it is illegal to play twice within 48hrs.

They probably know they are guilty of this but its very unreasonable and unrelaistic.

Hope we win at the Lane tomorrow and we see Pereira get some minutes

Robin Van Persie is on four yellow cards so another in this game and he'll get a one match ban.

The five card cut-off date is 31 December, so keep it clean RVP! :nervous:
