As much as I agree totally with the analogy, what it doesn’t take into account are the ways in which the results of one season affect the next season (promotion and relegation, qualifying for Europe etc). That’s where most of the problems for next season are going to come.

It's easy to forget that Lindelof and Bailly are both still only 24. If they can establish themselves as a pairing, they could be there for some time to come.

Sorry, I didn’t see your follow up post. I remember Kjaer being linked with us too, and everyone being surprised when he only signed for Wolfsburg, given his potential. It was a bit like when Van der Vaart signed for Hamburg - underwhelming.
