  1. Donkai Havertz | Arsenal Watch

Gabriel was very raw when he first came. You could see the physical attributes and aggression that Arteta wanted (especially considering our CBs at the time who were physically poor), but he had a rashness about him too. Was also a bit error prone. All probably understandable for a 22 year old...
  2. Donkai Havertz | Arsenal Watch

I think it's because even if Havertz took some time to get going, he never looked like a liability. Arsenal are in a title race and had a good CL campaign (considering absence from competition in 7 years). United are flailing in 7th, have negative goal difference and very nearly bottled it...
  3. Donkai Havertz | Arsenal Watch

We're the top scorers in the league (82 goals), albeit Liverpool have a game in hand and City have 2. We are doing a great job of sharing the goals around. Saka is our top scorer (14 goals) followed by Havertz (11) then Trossard (10). I agree Saka's form has dipped slightly but he's been run...
  4. Donkai Havertz | Arsenal Watch

Yeh in midfield I think he'll do well enough against most teams but against the better teams we need a proper midfielder in there. If Arteta continues to move him about, it'll be hard to judge him on his goals/assists alone like we tend to do with strikers. Guess it'll depend on what Arsenal do...
  5. Mykhaylo Mudryk

Havertz at least was experienced at this level and has a CL on his resume. You could justify the price tag to some extent. But Mudryk at that price, from the Ukrainian league, was always a huge punt.

Arteta is shaping up to be quite the talent identifier and developer. What he's done to Gabriel and Ben White for example, I couldn't have foreseen when they came. White in particular - everyone scoffed at the £50mil fee but my God how well he's turned him from a good CB into one of the best RB...
  7. Donkai Havertz | Arsenal Watch

Interesting comment, got me thinking and had to look up Transfermarkt. Havertz is the 25th most expensive transfer in PL going to Arsenal for €75mil. The (incoming) transfers more expensive than him are (Euros): Enzo to Chelsea 121mil Grealish to City 117mil Rice to Arsenal, Caceido to Chelsea...
  8. Premier League Gameweek 34-35 + FA Cup semis

I completely agree but unfortunately Partey cannot stay fit. Last season was an anomaly for him, otherwise he has missed probably half (at least) of our games since he joined. He's also getting on in age so don't imagine any improvement is coming. If he had stayed fit this season we'd have had...
  9. Premier League Gameweek 34-35 + FA Cup semis

Wasn't expecting that result. Chelsea looked good against City at the weekend but they completely folded here. Way too easily. Thank goodness Jackson seems to be allergic to finishing. Odegaard MOTM but what a difference Partey makes. We're going to need to win our remaining games to have any...
  10. Arsenal 2023/24 - Have bottled the Champions League and are Bottling the League

Picked up a knock in training before Wolves game.
  11. Post match vs Coventry City

Wow just saw the highlights, what an amazing game for the neutral. Coventry were fantastic and it makes you wonder if they didn't sit back early on, things might have been different. Cup competitions always have an element of chaos and unpredictability but I never thought they'd claw themselves...
  12. Arsenal 2023/24 - Have bottled the Champions League and are Bottling the League

Bayern's average age of their starting 11 was 28. Big difference that extra 3 years, and it showed. It was a tight tie overall but IMO their experience is why they edged it. They have also won this comp 6 times while the best we've ever done is runners up. Yes it was a good time to play them but...
  13. Ranking our Squad vs the Rest of the League

I think you're somewhere on the level of Spurs, Villa, Newcastle, Chelsea but your biggest issue IMO is your midfield. Injuries aside, the likes of Casemiro and Eriksen are done at this level. Amrabat was never an improvement on what you already had (and is a downgrade on Fred), even on loan...
  14. Arsenal 2023/24 - Have bottled the Champions League and are Bottling the League

Overall, our squad is the 3rd youngest in the league. Most of our squad (and our manager) have never played in the CL before this season. It is a pretty inexperienced squad that is only starting to figure out how to manage a title charge and CL campaign. And Bayern's starting 11's average age...
  15. Arsenal 2023/24 - Have bottled the Champions League and are Bottling the League

It's easy to see why, but I never bought into it. You don't get the experience Bayern have overnight, and it's easy to see that a young Arsenal squad with a young manager who's never been in the CL, should never have been strong favourites. Slight favourites, maybe. Bayern still have a very good...
