  1. The Trump Presidency

Not one of them is in the per capita top 7. The countries forming the G7 were actually the countries with the biggest GDP when it was founded.. but of course the world has changed since then.
  2. SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness or memes please)

I think at the moment people are still very aware of the virus and a vast majority do their best to follow the guidelines as good as possible even though it might not always seem like it. My worry is mostly that if "nothing" (so low numbers basically) happens for months most people could easily...

Both Ecuador and Brasil have been heavily impacted as well and the number of daily new cases is rising in Bolivia, Colombia and Chile.

It's pretty warm in Brasil at the moment and that's one of the hardest hit countries in the world. However doing the social activities outside likely helps a lot as the virus isn't as easily transmitted if you're not in a closed room.
  5. SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness or memes please)

I don't think it's likely there won't be a vaccine (or at least treatment). However assuming it's the case I don't think we'd be in a significantly different situation a year from now if we limit it to a few thousand new cases per day. For example even 10k new cases every day for a whole year...

Apparently the IMF currently expects a GDP growth of -6.8% for Sweden in 2020 while it expects -6.5 for Denmark and -6.3 for Norway. Obviously the results could look very different in the end but I thought it was interesting that they don't expect any great results from Sweden.

So excess mortality in the UK is a lot higher than the amount of deaths officially attributed to covid-19 and yet the government is actually inflating the figures. Makes you wonder what's actually killing all these people. In the UK and all the other countries that suddenly have an extremely...
  8. SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness or memes please)

There will be a continuous death toll but with the lockdown you will get the amount of daily deaths and new cases down. At some point you loosen the restrictions and likely get a "second wave" which really just means another great increase of new daily cases and thus daily deaths. So in between...

Obviously far more people have been infected in Italy than the official numbers show but a third of the population? The current mortality rate in South Korea is roughly 2% and it will exceed 2% in Germany. If we apply that rate to Italy (which doesn't really make sense because the health care...

Think the Guardian article is only about the planned study but not the actual interview as it's older than the interview. This is a short summary but in German language: https://www.deutschlandfunk.de/covid-19-wie-lange-sich-das-coronavirus-auf-oberflaechen.2850.de.html?drn:news_id=1116563

The amount of cases in Turkey has been growing extremely fast recently.. from 50 to more than 10k in just 2 weeks.

The president of the RKI was actually asked who they count as (corona related) death cases just yesterday and his answer was that they count anyone who was tested positive for Corona.

I don't really think we can say anything about the mortality rate in Italy as we don't know how many actually infected people there are.
  14. SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness or memes please)

Not really what you'd like to hear I guess but the number of people they test is just very low. Read it quite a few times by now and just checked the homepage of the ministry of health Japan: https://www.mhlw.go.jp/stf/seisakunitsuite/bunya/newpage_00032.html according to that they only tested...
  15. The dominos that will fall because of Covid-19

This will happen imo. I think most companies just didn't want to try it and they will be surprised by how well it works. Was always going to happen at some point of course but nowhere near as fast.
