  1. 2020 US Elections

Enjoying the theory that this can't possibly be a placeholder, because it has a quote in it. As if that quote isn't the most basic, predictable thing.
  2. SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness or memes please)

It's all self-assessed, so you can get one in any case, but you are supposed to have symptoms.

Not necessarily, modern classrooms tend to have some ok minimum standards applied, and most of the autumn term you can keep windows open without much bother. There likely will be outbreaks in September, but we're down to fairly low prevalence now, so it should be possible to identify and...

Unsurprisingly, they were in over-crowded, poorly ventilated classrooms. That's really basic stuff that schools should be on top of. The paper doesn't seem to report on secondary infection from the kids going home. In other studies, it's appeared to be quite rare.
  5. SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness or memes please)

Not sure if already linked - the ONS published their latest update on deaths in England and Wales (covering up to the 10th July). The number of deaths is continuing to decline - to around 50/day - which is still grim, but a massive improvement on 1200/day back in April. The overall number of...

It's got to be tough to get statistically solid outcome from a trial of only 100 people - is there a way that they can get this added into the Recovery trial or similar to try and up the numbers?
  7. SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness or memes please)

It might become a marginal issue in the coming weeks, as the number of deaths of people with historical positive tests begins to exceed the number who died of Covid but without a positive hospital test, but there was no reason, other than arse covering, to stop announcing the number of deaths...

In the UK you can look at the ONS stats which are based on death certificates, and so don't have the same issue as the PHE stats, although they take longer to come out. Those show that the PHE stats are a significant under-estimate, so the breathless panic about over-counting is entirely misplaced.

But saying the US health system is substantially worse at dealing with the common cold this year, in a number of red states, doesn't really give the message they're looking for - that Democrats are making this up to affect the election. Like, it basically has to be that Dems are killing people?

Sounds good! Is this the same sort of approach the Imperial vaccine is based on as well?

Kinda looking forward to the emerging theories as to why all these people are dying in Texas, Florida, etc, given the virus doesn't exist.

Still suggests they're likely missing a lot of cases, which considering their rocketing numbers has to be a concern.

Looks like this week in Texas is when we get the answer to whether it was just more testing, or if the shit is hitting the fan. (spoiler alert: it's looking like the one with the fan) https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/texas/
  14. Westminster Politics

The £500 was the proposal from some thinktank right? I think something might come out, but it'll be a lot less than that. Maybe £50-100 to get everyone out of the house for one meal/zoo trip.
