He is digging a hole for himself. With each passing day, the value of the player goes up on top of the usual "united transfer fee".

To be fair Louis van Gaal has made clear he wanted time to assess players, the Swansea game seemed to be an audition for Fellaini as a number 8 because what other reason could there have possibly been for bringing him on in place of Herrera?

He has also asked us to believe him when he says he needs only 24 hours to sign a player.

I will give the pair till the end of the transfer window otherwise I shall not be impressed by their performance.

That 25m bid Fabregas was near farcical at the time but here we are with a 30m Fabregas at Chelsea. I'd like to think Woody must have known something rather than just pure coincindence. So maybe he just cant close. A problem all the same though.

Just in case people weren't aware Exeter City were also under a transfer embargo, meaning they weren't even allowed to sign players. The embargo was lifted a couple of days ago and they have since signed a player.

I can only think that David Gill was so well respected around Europe we had good relationships with most clubs and therefore business was easy to conduct. I bet all the top clubs think Woodward is a right bellend as that's the way he appears and that makes things very difficult. All conjecture of course but it doesn't look good.

not been a good day for Woodie, he has been publically slammed left, right and center by probably every paper in the land today.

he has to be feeling this pressure unless he lives in a bubble.

my biggest worry is that Van Gall will get pissed off and quit.
Lots of rumours that he will have a showdown with Woodward this week. Mail, SSN, Twitter etc.

Surely Woodward cannot afford to lose Van Gaal. The share price would drop like a stone.

We pissed off Everton last season. Bilbao were unhappy with Herrera's transfer. And Sporting are certainly unhappy with the Rojo deal, although that may not be our fault.

Gill came across as a stern but respectful negotiator towards all clubs we dealt with and he and SAF were an enticing combo for any player. Woodward seems to treat it like pure business, stocks and shares etc. You only have to hear the way Woodward talks, going on about doing "trades" instead of calling them player transfers.

Trades, that's an american expression. In that case give Juventus Anderson and some cash considerations for Vidal.

Welcome to Manchester reception committee
I've got a theory - not much of one, but a theory. I think we really did have a £200m* warchest for the year and we've spent £100m. LvG arrived with expectations of identifying a couple of world class purchases and that £100m* looked like a good level of provision, the cash from sales might even get us a third - hence Woodward's confidence. So, for example, we ignored players like Sanchez who were on the move and we didn't keep Rio around "just in case".

A month later and he realised that between our injury prone defenders, our average wingers and the hole in our midfield he needed at least 4 players, we were struggling to sell our surplus and suddenly that £100m meant a juggling act between cheap buys and expensive ones and the choices were getting harder. Vidal or Di Maria? Two defenders or one?

So when people ask why haggle over that €2m or €5m or even €10m - perhaps it's because when you add them together maybe they're the difference between 3 players and 4, or 4 players and 5. There were always limits to the spending, it's just that LvG and Woodward perhaps hadn't expected to hit them quite so hard.

* random numbers thrown in just to give a context. I have no idea what the real number was: £50m + whatever we got from sales perhaps?

People like him are spatially unaware. Everybody knows somebody like him. You could insult Ed all day long, but if he needs you or can use you, he will take the abuse.

It is only when his toy is taken away from him will he realise how he let the club down.

He interview indicated to me he cares very much what people thinks of him, he seems to want to be the "big man" on the block with all his grandiose claims ... I think all the flack will get to him, but since he is inept at the facet of his job that involves transfers, what can he do to remedy that?

The Glazers erroneously promoted an accountant to do a CEO's job.

With SAF around a DOF wasn't necessary, now we are seeing that even with a pile of cash, LVG as a manger and the spotlight of the world on him... he still cannot deliver.

If he cannot deliver players now, he never will.... there is little or no competition for Vidal or Di Maria at this point in time and the conditions are perfect for him to deliver and make himself look great, but I feel he is genuinely out of his depth.

Nah, Woodward gives that impression and is very good at giving the right impression. Inwardly he believes himself to be the bees knees and criticism bounces off him.

He truly is an over-promoted numpty.
