Being a backup keeper has to be the most insanely trying position in football. You almost never get a chance to show your worth, and when you do... you only get a small handful of opportunities in any given match. Rarely do keepers make a mess of things. I really believe the difference between someone like Lindegaard and De Gea isn't huge, but it's enough to keep him sitting.

It definitely is, and that's no criticism of Lindegaard.

Alright, that was a poor comparison on my part. My point was supposed to be in general of most clubs, where I believe the margins are likely quite small.
Well I guess nowadays clubs do appear to be bringing in quality understudies, so yeah, there isn't much between some. I'd still argue de Gea is substantially better than both Valdes and Lindegaard. But it may not be so different at other clubs. Arsenal, for example.

Right. And I'm not sure I'd have the patience/mental ability to wait week after week to be given an opportunity, only to have to play against a team like Reading, face one shot from outside the area, literally do nothing wrong, but then have to sit on the bench again for the next few months. I have full respect for backup keepers, because it can't be an easy thing to stay focused.

I really like Lindegaard as a person. He has the heart and he totally understands United. I only wish De Gea was the same because I do fear he could be gone this summer. Lindegaard supported United as a kid.

Phew! for a second I was worried Lindegaard may throw his toys out the pram and demand to leave.
