£50m+ on players and your season is a failure

Paul Scholes, he scores goals

I'd say ours has been successful:
1) we are only £1m down on spending on players this season.

Hooray... A great measure of success...

2) we've finished on a higher points total than last season.

Well done. So you should too, according to your grand plan

3) we've won more games than last season

Same as above

4) our away form has been better than last season

But you've been shite at home...

5) we got to the QFs of the CL at our first attempt

After you won the UEFA Cup last year, which was quite a fantastic achievment, apparently...

6) we were still in the chamionship race until 3 games from the end

But you bottled it...

7) we can still finish 2nd above Man Utd

a) We can still win the whole thing...
b) You honestly thought you were gonna walk away with it before christmas, didn't you?

8) the core of our team is still young and will have taken valuable experience from the the last two seasons

So would ours...

Nope but it show's excellent management to have bought the players wew have this season and still competed on such a low defecit compared to yourselves and the other top 6 teams...

Agreed so it shows progress despite the off field difficulties...

But you've been shite at home...

Have we? We've played 17 and have 35 points with 2 games left at home, compare that to our away form where we've played 19 and have 39 points. If we win our remaining two games we have 41 at home that's a fairly balanced season. In fact to date you have a worse home record than us...

After you won the UEFA Cup last year, which was quite a fantastic achievment, apparently...

But according to you lot it's a lot harder than the UEFA Cup... stick with the party line Veggie... ;)

But you bottled it...

I don't think so, we played Spurs off the park in the first half and were unlucky but we didn't bottle it...

a) We can still win the whole thing... But won't... Arsenal won't lose to you AND Everton
b) You honestly thought you were gonna walk away with it before christmas, didn't you? Nope I didn't think we'd walk it as most of the top clubs have a better second half to the season... however I am pleased with the achievements based on having no manager.

So would ours...

The average age of your team is higher, the core of which has already been playing together for the best part of a decade or more...

Good to see you're avoiding the question though... ;)

If we win the league, it's been a success.

If not, it's been slightly disappointing, but not a failure. Still in with a shout in the league til the last whistle (hopefully), and just an away goal from a CL final. You need a bit of luck to take it all the way in football, and we've not had our usual amount this time around. Shit happens, eh? If we end up second, we've lost to a brilliant team (i.e. not Liverpool... ;) )

Our crap period this season was longer and deeper than usual. After christmas, we've been as good as ever before, both in the league and in Europe. Adding to that, we've played some brilliant football.

In fact, I wouldn't complain at all if not for our big spendings during the summer...

You mean like we had to do in 1998/99 - after a World Cup?

But still, at the moment the facts are that ours have been better than yours - and you say our season has been a failure and yours have been excellent..

Comparitively it has in terms of expenditure for what you've won.

Divine's '1 away goal from the final' applies equally to us and the semi and we all know what would have happened had we faced you in the Semi... ;)

What happens if you finish 3rd?

That we would have made the final easily?? If you really think that some league games and a pre-season friendly are good indications to how the teams would fare in a Champions League semi final, maybe you need to have your head examined.

Ok, agree

We are two points ahead of you and still in with a chance of winning the League + we came to the semis in the CL. Our season is a failure

Liverpool are two points behind us and NOT in with a chance of winning the title you claimed you'd win and came to the quarter final of the CL. Your season have been a success.

Makes sense that Softy..
