Martial is now the most exciting story in the premier league and until he kicks the ball wearing the United shirt his transfer fee is the main topic of discussion.

I can't wait to see what he can do!

Don't see why he would, he would be moving 2 players out of their favoured position to unfamiliar ones, then again LVG seems to try everything unusual.

Fact is Rooney isn't going to lead our attack successfully anymore, he will do a better job in the 10 role where he can get involved in the game but still arrive in the box and score. While I don't think Rooney is great there either its probably where he is most effective these days if his touch is working.

Martial prowling the backline will make every defense in the country drop that bit deeper, which will give our midfield and wingers more space. He's not going to come in and score bucketloads by himself, but he could be a good catalyst for the rest of the team.
Really can't see him dislodging Rooney as the main striker, which is why the right wing initially is where he couid play, Mata is just too slow there and it's not his natural postion, so put Martial there to give us pace and put Mata in behind Rooney.

Genuinely think the only way we'll be rid of Rooney up top is through injury, and even then LvG will probably play Fellaini there. He's a funny guy is LvG almost taunting the press about Rooney been a bit crap up top now by saying 'well you told me to play him there', bizarre.

Playing him as the most advanced forward and letting him drift to the left would be the way to go in my opinion. Would create more space for Memphis to run into and also our no.10. We wouldn't be as slow and static in the final third, that's for sure.

It really wouldnt be a surprise, Rooney so far has been pretty rubbish as the lead striker. With sending Januzaj on loan and clearly not fancying Herrera or Mata in the 10 position, I think it's Rooney's now. I do think though with Martial helping stretch the defence and play off each other the could form an almost Saha/Rooney like partnership, it could be pretty good. If we need pace on the right Use Young there, against Swansea and Brugge he seemed atleast semi useful, more than Mata did all game really (apart from score)

You just know he will be shafted to whatever position to accommodate Captain Rooney. I'm steeling myself for it but don't think I would be able to withstand venting my frustration.

As much as I don't like Rooney at 10 if it means he's not playing as the 9 then I'll take it.

The guy will definitely start on the right. It's his weakness IMO and the reason why these types of purchases can still be morr successful than spending 56 million on di maria.

These players are more willing to adapt and learn under systems to perfect their all around games.

I think that we sold Van Persie because he was on a big wage and he wasn't going to play much. Regarding Martial having RVP behind him could have been a source of stress and doubt, it also could have been a model and a good support. So I'm not categorical, I see good and bad things in a larger team.
At the end of the day the team should come first. If by some disaster we don't finish top 4 the consequences of that could be disasterous.

If this lad is all that then the challenge of getting a regular place is the first test.

Yeah, I think he'll play on the pitch.

Sub maybe. We need to ease him in -- playing infront of 4,000 people at Monaco to OT is a massive jump. Besides he has not been indoctrinated in LVG's philosophy yet. You dont want him to run around like a headless chicken which would open him up to more pressure the moment he makes his first misplaced pass.

Vultures are circling. The difference to on here is in the stadium where it counts, he'll get the support he needs.

There's no pressure on him. Everyone in the media expects him to be shit.

Why? He pretty much played up front and from the left for Monaco all last season.

I hope we initially give him games up top or on the left. Let him start with what he's comfortable with. Drifting in from the left and playing centrally seems to be what comes naturally to him. Adapting to English football is hard enough. Adding to that initial difficult phase by giving him a new position would be harsh IMO. Unless of course I'm completely wrong and he looks great at it in training. But on face value, I hope we make it easy for him and play him where he's already comfortable, in the beginning.

Have to say the way the ball stays glued to his feet at pace is not something you see all the time. He has refinement to do but the raw tools look great.

He's raw alright. Might be a frustrating season or 2 before he really starts getting all around consistent.

Looking at his heat chart against both games in the CL Juventus tie, he seems to have plenty of touches in all of the front 3 positions.

I think this is what Van Gaal is going for, having players up front who can work the ball in all, or most positions, forward positions - interchanging positions throughout the game.

In a few years time, a front three out of Januzaj, Wilson, Depay and Martial would be brilliant. I know all of them probably won't be top players but if 3 are, then we're sorted.

Can add Pereira to that list as well.

Although I'd prefer if we played him on the wing, I've got a feeling Van Gaal will play him behind Rooney.
My feelings precisely. Think he is going to play the shadow striker role Memphis and Januzai were tried in. Personally I would love him to be able to play on the right wing, but I haven't seen or read anything that suggests that he would be able to perform that role
