I'm still here too.

LVG deserves so much credit and respect for somehow getting through this post week, give the form of the team and the unprecedented injury list.
He definitely deserves credit for that, he seems to be in a better place mentally speaking, more positive.

Doesn't change anything for me. He still has to go when you take this season as a whole. This was the first good result in a long time. Wins against Derby and Shrewsbury and getting through in the Europa League were the minimum.

Hand was forced because of injuries. Everyone fit and it'd have been Fellaini, Schweinsteiger, Rooney etc and I doubt we'd have played anywhere near as well. Or the youngsters out there just ignored van Gaal and played with freedom and confidence.
Nice bit of whatifery there. You honestly believe the young players just went out there today and said - feck it I'm not listening to the manager, I'm going to do what I feel is right? And not just that, but that Van Gaal would allow such a thing to happen?

Don't be ridiculous. It worked and works (with Pep) quite well for Bayern.
Because possesion football was always there. Cruyff did it. LVG restarted it. Rijkaard played with more selfish players & then guardian took the selfishness out.

What is ridiculous.

Players like mate can't shift and play different positions. Someone like lingers who isn't even a RW can because they are much less settled in to any rhythm.

No one gives a shit about the last two results it's how and with who it was done.

This has been said from the start why van goal was bought here to do.

Talking about such things is so useless sometimes it's frustrating. You have a manager who is only as good as his contract and then you have managers who build for the future.

I love the guy, I really want him to make it here. I still see Mourinho as our new manager next season.

Most of the slower players are injured. Look at the "Philosophy" with quick young players in this past few games?

I have slagged him off something fierce, love him to prove me wrong and win something this season. Personal humiliation means nothing if it comes with United lifting trophies.

I'm not sure what your trying to say but the philosophy is not a tactic. Is more akin to football being treated like a subject at school.

You can see why the older ones would struggle whilst the younger ones would take it on their stride. After all its all they know.

We have 22 players under 25 and 7 players in prime & experienced 7.

Age alone that cannot win titles as of yet.

Adding the last 2 games we probably have close to 30 players aged under 25.

Even if Van Gaal stayed next season, it would probably be his last season, or last couple of seasons. This could be the last chance we ever have a realistic chance of getting arguably the best manager in the world in Mourinho.
We need to look to the future now.

Someone on tv - don't know who - summed it up by saying look what can happen if you abandon the philosophy

Its true, put quick players around Mata and he looks like a different player. I think Herrera has to play in the middle for us, not that number 10 bollocks. Him and Schneiderlin look to compliment each other better than BSW, one added bonus of them is they are very mobile.

It really is about winning for most isn't it? Can't let kids grow in to something special.
If the kids grow they'll win trophies. In the 50s, 60s, 80s (Whiteside), and 90s that was the case. Why should it not be now?

Agreed. I'm very confused about the managerial situation. Mourinho has one of the worst records with youth in football management. I've really enjoyed the recent games with the prospects coming through. I like united to have a british core and some of the young players coming through clearly have potential and ability.

Mourinho only cares about winning and all those players will be ignored or loaned out and sold with him in charge, based on his history. I almost think it could be worth sticking with lvg for one more season to bring through some youth players.

Then again that idea serms crazy and today was probably more fluke than what we could consistently see from the youngsters. I think simeone would be a great option if he dpoke english as madrid seem to have promoted youth under him.

For me as well, varela should be our first choice right back. At the least pushing darmian close, very good player.

Such a bad trait for a manager to have.

Weird that you only pick that out. Its not a bad trait, but there are other things i care about as well, like certain club traditions. Things mourinho would probably shit all over, with no guarantee of success. Maybe you also only care about winning, no matter the cost.

This thread isn't about that though. LVG deserves some credit for the players that have come through, but hes gotten lucky after backing himself into a corner.

Romance left football a log time ago. Its all about winning now and Mourinho will get us winning.

If thats genuinely how you feel its probably time to stop watching football.
Eh?, more like the other way around. Thats the way football has been for years now. Playing weakened teams in the cups because its sooo important to get in the Champs League and get *** money.

We can win and let the manager be of control of the club IE follow SAF's footsteps and thats all well and good but every 3 years or so when something turns foul we have to start again.

Any half decent manager can make bayern and Barcelona win & that is down to the team being better and more influential than the manager. The teams at bayern & Barcelona have played the same team for nearly 10 years now.

That is because it started out with kids.

I think what we saw today is van goal potentially finishing what he started in terms of youth I. E feck it let them go and be horny.. Just in case if he does not get to stay next year.

This is why we shouldn't have sacked him in December because he has hus own strengths and allowing him to finish what he started is something both bayern & Barcelona did not do & for all their wonders you have to wonder if they relied so much on xavi & iniesta then what could we do with the countless number of kids we have playing football that is trained on to them from the start.

Exceptionally talented kids.
