Given Mourinho's dig at Januzaj's loan spell at Dortmund, I'm fairly sure we'd have ensured he'd get lots of minutes at Granada. Provided he plays well of course.

Don't think he'll be a guaranteed starter there, they've already got Boga, Toral, and Samper all on loan from other big clubs who'll compete in the same position.

Do you (or anyone else on the Caf) know what kind of players Boga, Toral and Samper are?

Is Andreas similar to them? Could this be a problem?

Sergei Samper is a DM like a poor mans Busquets
Torah is an AM, did alright in the championship last 2 seasons 14 in 70 for Brentford and Birmingham so I would expect Pereria to start over him

Don't see him competing with Samper anyway, I'd expect him to be playing further up the pitch. Toral and Cuenca will be pretty hard to displace I imagine. I don't really know anything about Boga. Anyone know if Pereira is likely to start ahead of him? At first glance I'm not sure how many games he'll be starting. He'll definitely get sub appearances at least but I'm a bit concerned. La Liga should suit his style of play but I'm also quite concerned by the massive differences between the 2 leagues. I feel like even if he does well he'll have to go on loan to a Premier League team next season anyway. This loan move is probably just to attract more interest from Premier League teams who would actually consider playing him rather than bringing him in as backup like Middlesbrough would have done.

I thought Samper was more a defensive midfielder and Toral more a ? I coud be wrong tho. I seriously think he can do great things if he gives 100%. He has some competition but he can do it.

Think this is a bad move. He should have gone somewhere domestically or maybe even Serie A cause it's more physical.

Hope he does well obviously. He's a class player.

He can nail down a spot imo. They play a 4231, so i either expect him challenging for the CM spot or the AM one. There is not a standout player in that midfield where you would say he has no chance. If he gives his best, he will be a starter, no doubt. Toral didnt have a good first game either judging by the ratings. I dont think Mou would have let him go to be a sub there (Januzaj), pretty sure he thinks he can play a lot there.

Can only speak for Sergi Samper (who is on loan from Barcelona), he was dubbed the 'next Busquets' coming through. So probably shouldn't get in the way of Perreira's chances, depending on role/formatim etc.

Terrible move, not a move that supports his premier league development in anyway.

This sounds like a move engineered by him and his agent to put him the shop window for the bigger la liga clubs after he's been informed he has little chance of Utd first team any time soon.

Or I could be completely wrong...

I was hopeful that Phelan would bring him to Hull, a loan to a La Liga club flustered with CM and attacking midfield options isn't exactly what I expected. Even a Championship loan would have been better I think.

Didn't Mourinho say Januzaj was loaned close so he can keep an eye out on him as he sees a future at United for him?

Loaning AP like this seems to be exactly the opposite.

It's unlikely that a Premier League team would have given him the minutes with all the money being raked in. Teams don't loan players to develop them, they are brought in according to the needs of the team. At this point, we don't have the luxury of giving him a Januzaj type loan because he hasn't done much outside of the U21s barring a game against Ipswich. I don't think it can be said enough enough that Januzaj had a seasons worth of PL experience before getting the loans offered to him. So let's just hope he gets game time.

It's a sensible step up from the U21s, the intensity has significantly increased but he'll still have more time on the ball than compared to a Premier League game, hopefully he'll get the minutes and this'll be an important step in his development.

Not sure why you would naturally expect him to start over Toral. Toral has had regular gametime over the past 2 seasons and he looked excellent at times at Birmingham last season.

I thought the same, since Mourinho said something along the lines of "we would loan Januzaj outside of the PL if we didn't care".

It's not exactly a loan that indicates he'll be coming back to play a major role in the first team, but I'm willing to be proven wrong. As a rule of thumb, I'd prefer he was getting minutes in English football.

Unless I'm forgetting somebody obvious, have we ever sent a young player on loan to a foreign league for them to come back and excel here?

Bad move for him IMO.

Grenada are a nothing team and Spanish football is too different to English football, it's not a good club/league to go to plus it'll be pretty unsettling for him having to move away.

I never thought I'd say this in a million years but I would've preferred Moyes took him to Sunderland or something. At least he will play regular there and still remain in the premier league

Only one I can think of at the moment is O'Shea.

O'shea and Evans. Not sure if they count mind.

I don't know why people say that we should have send him to EPL, or God forbid, to Championship. We do the majority of shopping outside of EPL anyway, and those players do just fine, in fact better than the players we sign from EPL. I think that he would have a better football education there rather than in some shitty EPL club like Hull or some Neanderthal club in championship.

The only problem is that Granada has a ton of midfielders so Pereira will probably struggle to play every match. On the other side, if he can't do it there, then he can't do it at United.

I am happy with the loan. He'll be coached by a top coach (no-one here mentioned that) in the most technical league in the world and so his strengths will flourish there.

Quite a few players were loaned out at Royal Antwerp in Belgium in the Fergie days. O'Shea and Evans were the only ones who went on to become first team players I think.

Martial did pretty well coming from France, rashford has done well coming from absolutely nowhere. It's completely down to the player. There's no way a move to la liga could be bad for him if he gets consistent game time.

Jose has a very good track record at sending young players overseas. I'd say that's more relevant than what United have done in the past.

Welcome to Manchester reception committee
He's gone to a manager who likes to play good football. They aren't desperate for a midfielder, the ones they've got are competent. But they aren't exceptional, or automatic picks. If Pereira is good enough he'll play. If he isn't good enough to play there, then I don't see how he'd be a starter at any PL club this season. It's a proper opportunity and a good challenge for him.

Good luck to him.
