Aguero: Pep is changing me

Couldn't find a general Aguero thread, but apologies if this should be in an older thread. Following from being in the pub watching the Hull game last night and overhearing a group of City fans stating that 'if he stays fit, Aguero will be top scorer this season' (talk about stating the obvious, but the big word there is IF!) I then stumble across this story on SkySports this morning: http://www.skysports.com/football/n...ep-guardiola-is-bringing-a-change-to-his-play

This got me thinking, obviously it goes without saying what a quality striker Sergio is, but his injury problems have always hampered him... Does this new style of pressing from the front create a problem for Pep (and subsequently Aguero) as it is key for the way Pep wants to play, but he also has to protect Sergio and keep him on the pitch for as many games as possible if they want to challenge on all fronts.

In the league in 2015/16 he played 30 games
In the league in 2014/15 he played 33 games
In the league in 2013/14 he played 23 games

So in the last 3 seasons before this current one and the new 'pressing from the front' style, he played a total of 86 games out of a possible 114 (roughly 75% of games, actually a bit higher than I'd have guessed).

Now I can't find his 'distance run/covered' stats anywhere (if anyone knows where I can see them that would be great).

I guess what I'm asking is, will this new style mean he is covering more ground/engaging in more sprints? And if so, would it be safe to assume this will see his stats of playing in 75% of games decrease, giving City less of a chance of the title?

I haven't kept a record of the types of injuries he gets because I think that determines whether the pressing has an impact or not. Immediate response with no data to back me up is that not it does not affect him because I don't think pressing leads to the kind of movements that cause injuries.

Yeah I've not kept track either, but for some reason I've got it in my head that he pulls a hamstring a decent amount? (Could be bollocks), which led me to think it could be an issue.

Really curious what sort of impact Pep will have on Kun, one of the many subplots to his worldwide tour of coaching the Barcelona way. Very curious in particular about Kun for two big reasons - one, he hasn't quite lived up to his potential consistently enough and two, he seemed to initially scoff at the potential impact a coach could have before Guardiola's arrival.

Very curious

I don't know about anyone else but right now I'm feeling very curious.

I think the keyword is consistently, which he hasn't, though he's hardly at fault given his injuries. Also he's been utter shite for Argentina.
Who gives a feck about Argentina? His scoring record for City is 142 in 210, and apart from one 'poor' season in 12/13 where he only scrapped 17 goals, the other 4 seasons he's never scored less than 28 in a season. The man is a monster, and rightly the most feared striker in the PL. Man City managing to prise him away from us at the final hour is one of the biggest regrets I have in the PL era.

Exactly, in both cases. He hasn't been poor, mind you but I think many saw a different level of greatness from him years ago - I think in that regard, he hasn't reached it. Maybe he won't but love to see what sort of impact Pep might have on him & his game

Ultimately he's never come close to Ballon d'Or winning form which is where many expected him to be at this point in his career.

He was also a joke against Madrid in the CL semi final if I'm not mistaken. And obviously he cares about doing well for Argentina.

Aguero is a quality striker but I do think I expected him to be even better when he came to England. Watching his level of pure skill and dribbling ability during his atletico days I thought he'd reach around Henry's level. Great player but he's never been that great.

The guy has the best minutes to goal ratio in premiership history. hard to say he hasn't live up to potential.

Yeah exactly. I really don't understand what it is people were expecting him to achieve, if being the most predatory striker in PL history isn't enough.

It's very hard to shine as a striker when your team is seriously outplayed, and City never performed well against quality opposition in the CL. Let's wait & see what Agüero is able to do there when City's overall game finally matches the individual talent of the players. I have the impression that Guardiola's style could be the perfect environment for him to thrive.

Harsh to say he hasn't lived up to potential, he's one of the two best strikers in the world and certainly the best player in the premiership.

What are the chances he will be banned for the derby? Nasty elbow thrown there.

Should be in a new thread. If it was a United player someone on here would already have started a thread on it..
