'And in other news - out of nowhere, flashes of the best Premier League football Manchester United have produced here in nine months: displays of imagination and guile ignited by a 21-year-old who was out of contract as of Sunday night but will not remain so for terribly long, it is safe to say.'

Why do we like letting our youngsters run their contracts down?

He's a great prospect and one who has gone under the radar until recently. Could be worth getting him signed up and loaned out unless Jose is willing to give him semi-regular game time next season. Would probably be a few decent takers after today.

Please please dont sell him. If we can keep him and make him a squad player for next season then we will reap the rewards.

If he gets the same amount of gametime as Lingard did last season he will prove hes the better player, just wait and see.

He had a very good game yesterday and a cracking finish for the goal, much better goal than Ramsey's for Arsenal which was a similar type of finish. Hopefully we'll see him again next season get a chance.

Another one of those players in that annoying predicament, at 21 he's wasting his time at U23 level but probably won't get the game time he needs for the first team unless we are in the Europa League again. If we're lucky a Prem team will want to loan him.

Made a heck of a first impression. I would love for us to keep him around. If all he becomes is a squad player, I'd rather those come from the Academy than us pay for them. Plus, you never know, he could become something special.

I'm fine if I'm alone in thinking this but I reckon he's ready. No loan, just get him into the first team squad. Not that it'll happen for a very long time, if ever, but I think he'd excel as a CM. Him and Pogba in front of a DM (think prime Carrick) would be awesome.

Unlike with Mata and Mkhi, the reason I think he'd excel there is because not only does he shield the ball well, he has that Scholes attribute of always being up for a battle. He never shrinks. Of course, this may not translate into first team football as it has for him in the reserves, but it's just a gut instinct.

I read that his contract ran out yesterday? He will be asking for Lingard type salary after yesterday's performance.

Think it's a bit too late for him to go on loan as well. Jose should let him fight for a place in the squad. If he isn't up for it, sell. He could be handy when players like Mkhi isn't performing.

This thread
Seen him compared to Messi, Robben, Cleverley (lol) after one game.

Chill out guys. Making comparisons is why you end up in a Martial situation (next Henry I think he is), where they struggle to live up to all the hype people created. Just let him play his football for now.

Never seen him play before but my mate who came to the match with me is a regular at the u23 (still the reserves to me) was bigging him up before the game.

Was very impressed, His close control is excellent and it's always great to see a youth product deliver hopefully he will feature more next season.

What I liked similar to Gomes, was they passed it and then ran forward. He's got a lot of potential but so did Rothwell and Pearson. I think he will have made an impression on Jose. Score the Hat trick and then doing well. Of course we didn't play great in the second game and so he never found himself in those areas but he's very capable. The United kids RARELY disappoint. The only one I can remember was Eagles. All of them looked to have their emotion in check. True it was a dead rubber but going back to Harrop - I can't think of many wingers we have, that would have scored that goal. Martial when he's on form and Rashford but he's a greedy type of a player and while it's ok to be a team player - which he is also, it's good that his confidence translated AND his belief that he could score. We have so many great kids, but he's made a good impression in a position we're poor in.

Him and Mitchell - Mitchells balls to Rooney which he lobbed over - we don't see that end product from Shaw yet. That was very good first half.

Give him a contract and send him out on loan.

Not one of those comparisons were about ability or level of player though so not laughable. People being able to read and see what is actually being compared won't lead to anything. Of course it's silly to think people actually read.

Messi mentioned at least twice, and apparently has the movement of Robben....it's very silly so I'll happily laugh at it, thanks.

I hope he's given a shot next year. Alongside Pogba, he's been my favourite player for some time.

Completely agree on Lawrence, though I like Harrop more.

He's got all the talent in the world to make it here.
I was actually referring to Harrop as a beautiful player. Think I just like Lawrence more because I liked him first. Would have been a dream come true for both to make it.
He has exceptional talent imo but unfortunately he strikes me as the type to wallow away down the leagues because his type just doesn't succeed as much at lower clubs. Why I wouldnt loan unless abroad and if he doesn't make it here I wish he would go abroad himself. Hoping this performance has convinced Mou to give him a chance now.

Linked up great with Demi and Pogba and think he missed Pogba in the second half.

Robben is laughable because it's just really wrong. But no one is saying he'll be anywhere as good as messi. And half the time when messi is mentioned it's just a shit joke.

How nice it was to see 1 of our wide players cut inside and actually hit a shot low and hard into the corner.

No messing around with curling shots or slicing it high and wide, just buried it.

The drop of the shoulder left to unbalance the defender before moving right was simple but effective. So pleased for him and the other kids to really show Jose if they get a chance they won't let him down.

I think a short contract renewal and a loan next season is the best option for everyone. If he does well we reassess.

Yeah, if he was sent out on loan I'd be concerned that he wouldn't get a chance again. If given the chance to fight for a spot in the 1st, I'm sure he'd take it with both hands and prove to be a very good option to have in the squad.

Oh, and in regards about my "Scholes attribute" comment, I meant because, like Scholes, he's very small for a CM (if he's ever played there) but he won't be bullied out of a game and is up for a physical battle. A bit like a young Wilshere, too. I wouldn't say he's that similar of a player to Scholes bar his good technique and small size, but I would liken him to Wilshere.

I completely agree. Even though I think he's got all the talent in the world, loaning a type of player like Harrop to lower PL teams just doesn't end well most of the time. Maybe he'd take to it like Wilshere did at Bolton and come back a better player, but I wouldn't be confident of either A - getting enough game time to warrant said loan, B - being used in a way that isn't best suited his game as they're more likely to be defensive in order to stay up, and C - getting the chances when he returns from said loan.

He's on José's radar now after impressing and, in my opinion, should be given the chance in the 1st team to kick on rather than sent out on loan. Though, as you said, if he does leave either on loan or not, I think going abroad would benefit him and his style more, too.

Good to see young footballers connecting with supporters on social media, as @nikeuk athletes Josh Harrop and Joe Riley showed tonight:

 I hadn't thought about that actually. I'm sure they want the lads to sound as normal as possible, perhaps their social media team is run by teenagers? Note they both just have a first name / lastname / shirt number twitter handle too. The boys probably don't even have the passwords for their accounts.

Demi surely runs his own Twitter account though. Quality tweets.
