He'd had a far better season than he's been credited for, to be fair.
Hopefully, Jose finds the right players to play alongside him for next season. He's a gem.
Fair fecks to Paul.Has had a lot to deal with this season (though nothing compared to what he had to deal with the other week) and a fair whack of criticism has come his way, but yeah, he showed up when it really mattered, and clearly was absolutely loving it after the final whistle.

He can do nearly everything with the ball, his touch is sometimes brillant, but I wonder how is it possible that he played 5 or 6 long balls which didn't come near one of our players, 3 of them went even out of the pitch?
Who would he replace for Real? before you say Kroos, remember Kroos has won world cups, been part of 4 champions league final midfields (won 2,missed 1 with injury and pending) so would never be a candidate for replacement. Modric is a different and better player for control and dictation and he isn't defensive enough like Casemeiro. Bayern?
He's different class. I think we'll see a big increase in his goals and assists next year as well.
He had a good game and that opening goal was crucial.

However, 9 goals and 6 assists along with some cracking performances in his debut season says he's nowhere near as bad as he's been made out to be and maybe, just maybe, he's actually been pretty impressive, although I expect he'll push on next season and really show what he's all about.

Thats the bit that will continue to bemuse and befuddle. Makes the hard things simple, and the simple things hard. Sometimes looks like a genius, others looks like a daydreaming drunk.
If you watch his passing compilations he should have had 5-10 more assists from shocking misses from our front men. Add to that the extra movement and passing options a competent forward line will provide and he should be justifying his price tag in no time.
Yeah our long balls were generally not very accurate all game, it wasn't just him. Possibly due to the pressure from Ajax, maybe a bit of nerves. He's been very good with them all season so I'm not worried.
Just had a look at the Pogba transfer thread of last summer. Nothing can beat that thread man. The funny thing is KM's P.S comment in that OP where he says something like "since we have a policy of no mega threads..." and then it went on to become the longest thread on the Caf
That goal last night practically paid for his transfer, thought he was excellent in the first half and disciplined in the 2nd has had a pretty decent season all things considered and he'll only get better with more talent around him.
Because those long balls are played behind the defence into space. If the striker checks his run, it just ends up looking daft as no one's within miles of the ball.
So glad both him and Mkhitaryan scored. Especially him, will keep the critics quiet for the summer at least.
And how many more goals would they have been without hitting the bar or post.....wasn't it 7 this season?
Dont think he played that good last night but ultimatly got the goal which changes the way the match unfolds, still trys to much himself rather then keeping it ticking over,
Fantastic player, with a need to mature into being the 1st class Midfield General he will be sooner than later.
And how many more assists if his teammates knew how to finish? He created some easy 100% chances which all got missed somehow
So much pressure of his chest with this game. Going to CL, adding Griezmann will definitely take the spotlight pressure off of him and signing a top midfielder will give him more freedom on the pitch. He's going to be monumental next season.
I thought he started very well but - over the course of 90 minutes - you'd have to say he was out-performed by both Hererra and Fellaini. Especially the latter. If you'd predicted that would be what happened in our biggest game of the season when we signed him you'd have been laughed at. So it has to go down as a disappointing performance. Thank feck he scored. He was due a jammy goal after hitting the woodwork with so many quality strikes. That deflection changes the narrative of his contribution completely and will hopefully set him up nicely to go into his second season full of confidence, so he can consistently look more like the player we thought we signed last summer (all of which also applies to our other goal-scorer, coincidentally)
His back heel to Mata in the first 10 minutes (which Mata flashed across the box just in front of Fellaini) was awesome. Brings an extra dimension to our midfield. Last night he was very disciplined with his positioning.
Overall poor today tbh considering his standard, especially worrying defensively.
Not his best game, making bad mistakes in his passes and poor decision making.

Could've make more simpler plays, and actually I still question his big game mentality.
Still, ignoring that good vital first goal and he does work hard for the team.

We were all thankful that his goalscoring luck changed - in one of our biggest games of all.
But I'd identify a second-half one-two with Rashford where he's ready to run onto the ball and unleash a second.
But it didn't happen because of that highly addictive habit he has of 'feeling' the oppositon player - ie karate-style, judo, kick boxing etc... - instead of driving on forward and ruthlessly planting the ball in the bottom corner. The space was there but his 'head' was more on man than ball.
Maybe he doesn't quite have that zip or dynamism in his game when it comes to the absolute crunch. Perhaps, it won't matter because a solid midfielder is already there.
I've got a feeling expectations will need to be tempered and remain realistic for next season.

Every team would make space for him in the starting XI, even Madrid or Barca. Fully deserves the EL trophy and to play CL
Should be made captain IMO.
Barca would love to have him, his passing game would be a dream with Suarez' and Neymar's runs behind and he'd probably clock up 20+ assists a season. (Even a declining) Iniesta, Pogba and Busquets would be some midfield, thankfully that's likely never going to happen.
If one of our lads deserved a bit of luck in the final it was him.

The price we paid is worth it. As someone said, when you score in the final and Henrikh did also then they almost pay for themselves. When you think about our midfield now, it's evolving nicely. Pogba's role, has maybe given more definition to Anders position. The way Pogba can play it long or short or even beat his man - is great. I never saw him in Italy and I wondered how it would have effected his game. I still think there's a lot more to come and with better players, we'll see an even better player. Considering how Pogba and France flopped in that final, it's good that he got a goal in the final - albeit with luck. We'll take that though
Will be very interesting to see what his role will be for most of next season. Will we get a holding midfielder to sit behind him and Ander, and expect him to push up more? Or do we go back to the 4-2-3-1 and ask him to play a deeper role. I think he can excel at both, he's got so much ability.

Yeah maybe if every single shot he had that hit the post/bar this season went in he might just get some of the credit he deserves. But besides United fans I don't think he will ever get the credit he deserves from the media and opposition fans.
Anyway for the opposition fans asking what £89 million gets you, its gets you the opening goal in a European final.
A win that probably has earned us twice that amount in prize money/sponsorship.- Status
