5th May 2006
By Staff Writer

Manchester United have rejected a £5 million offer for Ruud Van Nistelrooy from his former club PSV Eindoven.

According to reports in today's Sun newspaper United rejected the bid because they are holding out for £8 million.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a move for the player that would see him link up with fellow countryman Martin Jol at White Hart Lane

£8m for one of the most prolific goalscorers in europe?

I'd want at least £10m - £12m

Do a straight swap with Ronaldo. He wants out of Real Madrid and it looks like Ruud is on his way.

The same Ronaldo who looks like he's spent the last couple of years eating tortilla and patatas bravas and is only now - coincidentally I'm sure - getting into shape when there's a World Cup due? No thanks.

Anyway what credence do we give a story no quotes written in the Sun by a staff writer?

If were not going to get a good price for Ruud (£5, even £8 million isn't going to buy us anyone who can come close to replacing him) why not take a gamble on Ronaldo. People are talking about £20 million for Torres and we need to spend our money on midfielders rather than strikers. Torres has hardly set the world alight either.

Even in a season when he has been overweight and depressed he has still scored 14 goals. With good man management we could get him back to his former glories. Also Rooney and Saha have proved what a good partnership they can be, Rossi needs games and Smith is due to return as a striker, so if the shit did hit the fan we also have quality players to fall back on.

We shouldn't even be considering selling Ruud.

Twats are talking about £20m for Torres.

But this is the situation, so we have to deal with it. I think the chances of Ruud being here next season are about 1 in 10.

I'll believe it if it happens, not because it's in some rag I wouldn't use to wipe my arse.

if we sell ruud (not gonna happen) we dont need to but another striker as we have rooney rossi smiff saha and OLE so i think we are covered instead we should get a midfielder not torres for 20 million

I think if he went we would need someone.

Saha is too injury prone, Rossi is still a gamble and I'm not sure if Ole will ever be the same player. What happens if Rooney gets an injury as well.

Yeah I have to agree. If the case is that we do still sell Ruud we would need to buy a striker. Too much of the focus would be on Rooney again as Saha probably wont be around the whole season, Ole and Smith you cant be sure how they will be, while Rossi is still unproven.

How will he ever be proven if he is never given the chance to show us how good he can be at first team level? Sometimes you have to take a punt on a player and this is one case where SAF does have to.

Ole nearing the end of his playing career
Smith and Rooney tend to drop back a lot. Not prolific stirkers.
Saha injury prone but can be used as a stand in
Rossi still has a long way to go
