Maybe nothing in his mind, but if you consider how shite his shooting was for us for these past few years, then even a backpass is better option than him choosing long range shots. His shooting from range is literally pointless.
But Pogba scored a lot of goals from long shots before joining united. His confidence was dented when he keeps hitting the post/crossbar.

Imagine when King Pogba turned on his switch to be great and stay on. And he keep scoring.

You don't pay 90m for that and the most memorable moments in football aren't what you describe. If Rooney hits the overhead kick against City into row Z, people would say, what a waste. People can't have it both ways....
This is a terrible example but Rooney was a striker so his whole purpose was to score goals first and foremost. Pogba's role is entirely different.

Can King Pogba made Premier league team of the year? or reserve?

I mean, other than KDB, who else is better than him in midfield?

He has been too inconsistent. I think de Bruyne, Silva and Eriksen made the team.

Its pretty simple with Pogba for me. In serie A, he was in a league with a slower pace where juventus took advantage of his gifts and allowed him freedom without really improving him in terms of being a midfielder. This is why he has often been inconsistent for france aswell, and why it is so difficult to find balance with him in a team. The truth is, in a midfield two, his lack of sharpness really hurts us, and therefore the only way around it is to bring in a midfielder who is willing and able to support matic while pogba creates. Unfortunately this season, we did not have this midfielder avaiable, who could pass out from the back, play with compusure and stay in position with matic, which meant that in 433s, we usually suffered losses or draws, hopefully in the summer, we can sign a midfielder that can play the role.

Why do we need to play midfield 2? Most strong teams play midfield 3 as it gives better balance.

Madrid, Barca, PSG, Juventus (when they play 4 at the back) all play 3 midfielders.

Also Pogba played in champions league and did very well.

Yeah we should sign one more very good midfielder as attacking threat from midfield apart from Pogba is very minimal. We need to sign a midfielder who can ping passes and also can create chances from deep.

It's not a terrible example at all. I'm not talking about 'roles' I'm suggesting when a player who has the ability and license to do something try's it when it comes off, it's a memorable moment however when it doesn't, it's seen as wasteful, self indulgent, immature, brainless etc. That was the reference to the Rooney overhead kick. Fans can't have it both ways, people are saying keep it simple yet equally expecting 90m pounds of creativity.

Two full seasons now and pretty under whelming overall. Bright spots here and there but hes not what we thought we were getting when we signed him.

Id equallly place the blame between him and Mourinho for this.

I honestly don't get. Genuinely don't. Park Pogba to one side, the general consensus in football including on here is the nature of our football. Not the fact we finished 2nd but the style of football inhow we got there. This isn't my view, it's the view of world wide fans, ex players, pundits, the media etc. For some reason, the criticism is levelled at Pogba when clearly these are the instructions of the manager. Part of the reason he sat on the bench is cause he didn't follow them. Is this a revelation about how Jose plays his football...absolutely not but we knew this before he came. I'm not saying Pogba has been brilliant but who has? The same player since SAF left. I've come to the conclusion, it doesn't matter who you bring it, the managers instruction will be the same. People talk about new full backs but the issue isn't about the fact they get into attacking positions and can't create, the issue is they aren't allowed to go forward. We talk about CB that can't bring the ball forward, that's cause they aren't allowed.

Nothing will change until the manager does....

I'm sorry but an overhead kick was exactly the skill needed at that moment for scoring whereas Pogba tries long range stupid shots that aren't necessary. The situations have nothing in common, having the licence to try things doesn't mean you must try absolutely dumb things over and over again.
Just like Rooney has always been criticized for attempting to chip the keeper when other better things were available to do. There is trying something audacious out of necessity (Rooney'v overhead kick, Giroud's scorpion kick) and there is attempting something audicious when better options are available. Besides Rooney was inside the box too, Pogba tries his shots from ridiculous distances

its very easy to blame the manager but the reality is, its the same group of players that have been poor for years. This is not a mourinho team...compare the statistics im tackles, interceptions of the full back and midfield positions and you will see a less aggressive team than he has ever produced. Mourinho teams have never been boring, effective and tactical, but never passive and boring, that is down to personnel. I said the minute van gaal left that if mourinho could not get our players to function, no one else could. Personally i believe van gaal ideally would have wanted us to play like city currently do, the attacking coaching and positional movements that people talk about were discussed, yet our players said it was too much information, that should tell you about their quality alone.
As far as Pogba is concerned, his case is different. In my view he is world class, as dynamic a midfielder as you can find, and our best player, but he has his flaws which are hard to mask when there are so many other gaps. People expect him to carry us in every way, but no midfielder has ever done that. I feel bad for him, as he was brought to a team that in my opinion were genuinely a poor side with one star(ddg) in the whole team. Both he and mourinho knew what they were joining, a team as hated as us, with such high expectation, so i hope both can still cope.

Hindsight is an exact science and everything is stupid when it doesn't come off. Most CR7 free kicks ended up in row z yet we remember the ones that didn't. Football is about opinions and I'm of the view he's a special player that's able to create special moments and audacious is never about necessity, it's about ability.

I'm not anti Jose, just think he needs to be more progressive but I wouldn't argue that he needs to more of his own players.

Other than Lukaku and Sanchez ( prior to united) there is no world class players around Pogba making runs, looking to link up play etc, Mata, Lingard, Matic, Young, Valencia, Rashford and Martial are all good squad players but not one is/has been world class!

I’m not saying there ability is the reason Pogba has been inconsistent but it certainly makes him hold onto the ball longer or take an extra touch as the above players simply dont have the skill to think as quick as Pogba. Lukaku seems to be able to read Pogbas mind and make the runs.

I still think 2 good new wingbacks and an CAM thus summer will only get the best out of pogba. The likes of Young, Valencia. Lingard and mata will become more squad/ back up players.

Massive fan of his over and was a big defender of his last season when he was being criticised but this season he has been poor considering his ability. He needs to cut out all the showboating and get stuck in and take games by the scruff of the neck. He never seems to sprint, meanders around the pitch, tries too many unneeded flicks and looks lazy on the ball. I don't know if Mourinho can get the best out of him sadly.

Maybe you do but I sure don't and I cringe whenever I see Cristiano step up to take a FK. Pogba isn't a special player I'm sorry, he might think he is, you may think he is but he's done feck all in terms of consistency to be labelled a special player. He should work on getting the basics right first and then whatever OTT he tries will be a bonus.

How much is the not so special Pogba worth if he was put up for sale then?

You gotta understand that the price of a player means feck all anymore cause the market is crazy and the marketing power of the player makes up for it more than his footballing ability.
This is a market where a player like Ousmane Dembelé is one of the most expensive player ever. Prices are misleading. If Pogba was a boring person, with minimal presence on social media and networks, he wouldn't cost as much as he would potentially now. Footballers are more than just about football sadly. When I say he isn't special, I'm only refering to the football played on the pitch

Underappreciated and underrated by our own fans.

Of course no one in the media mentions that we lost him for 3 months. No excuses made for Jose that he lost his most creative player.

Absolute crap. Dembele was one of the most wanted players in the world not necessarily because of his ability just now but also because of his potential. When you think that they pretty much could sign any player in the world speaks volumes. Do you think Jose agreed to spend 90m which represents a significant amount of the transfer chest because Pogba would sell football shirts.

I'd look at Carrick yesterday....great pass for the goal. 2/3 other good probing passes. Yet we were woeful, Carrick got caught trying to dive in to a tackle on the edge of their box which led to a counter attack, Souness would've been all over it. He had a shot second half straight at a defender with our players in better positions.

Pogba would be getting slated because the team was poor and his mistakes highlighted. He's judged differently

Do you know anything about nuances much ? Pogba cost that much not because of his footballing ability only but also because of his power in terms of image. How the feck does that equate to me saying Mourinho bought him because he sells shirts ? It's part of it, it is what participates into inflating prices in an already out of control transfer market.

Same principle with Dembelé (and any exciting young player), great talent but his price is in part inflated by the same thing. It will sound like crap if you turn off your brain of course but maybe that is default mode ?

All those things have little do with how special a player can be on the pitch which is what I was saying. Pogba has tools but there is no way he is showed he is that special at United nor France, showing flashes of brilliance isn't special.

Just goes to show that even when he isn't playing particularly well, he's still making an impact. When he is on form he's a frightening prospect. it will come eventually, I'm sure of it.

Are you suggesting that Pogba should be judged in the same way that a player that basically retired at the start of the season and played his last match just to get a recognition after months without playing competitive football ?

Our best player today with Matic I feel, gutted he missed the header.

Really demanded the ball and drove us forward as much as possible when the opportunity arised.

Shame our front line is so rubbish.

He was very good today. We are so toothless without Romelu up front, can't blame pogba for that. He did his job very well.

Agree with you, shame our other midfielders and attackers apart from maybe Lingard were nowhere to be seen in the attacking third.
