Was atrocious yesterday. How we won that with him being such a liability is beyond me. He made the EXACT same mistakes as he made against them in the League game and offered nothing. He even made Darmian look like he could be average.
You could say similar after the recent derby too. He's been struggling for a while, other than the game against Liverpool. Looks very very tired.

We desperately need a new left back.

Remains our best crosser in the team. Wouldn't mind him playing on the right next season if we don't purchase a left back. But thats a stop gap situation. Our full backs need upgrading desperately.

Would have been another poor performance if not for that assist.
It was a poor performance. Of course invaluable assist. But he slowed us down every time he got the ball, was pressed and didn't fancy taking it on his left.

Said it multiple times so it feels boring to repeat it but playing a right footed ex-winger in LB position is a terrible idea.

Going forward yes, he's been quite defensively sound though this season. He's had very good games at times, but not today. I think we're all in agreement that we're desperate for full backs, on both sides, in the summer.

It's the reason why he slows everything down. He needs to cut inside on his right foot to cross or pass, making the most predictable left back for any defender to read.

I think on the whole he's exceeded expectations and been one of our better players in the important games this season (usually good marking and clearances).

In terms of general performances from a full-back though - him and Tony need replaced quickly.

True, doesn't happen so much every game. But they pressed him and he couldn't hack it.

Made the crucial ball for the winning but the same problems persist. He cannot pass out from the back when pressed

Thought he played well in an otherwise series of average to poor performances.

Kept going and showed the urgency and desire most our players dont seem to have.

Does he care about the shirt? He lets other players do his work and doesn't even track back.
And when he does, it's just lazy attempts.

As I've said earlier Shaw even at his worst is a better lb than Young.

Ashley Young will be putting in rubbish crosses in 2019.
Christ help us.

Please sat this is just a bit posturing by Jose.

Please.

Actually I don't think Young has been bad this season. All things considered I think he's done alright considering he's been thrown in the deep end playing in a position he didn't develop in. However, if you want to win the league in the modern era you cannot be playing Ashely Young as your full back. It's that simple really.

Meh. You are assuming we ll buy a competent full back who will be good at crossing. Not going to happen. Almost all of our team puts in crap crosses. In fact, Young ain't that bad with crosses.

I am confident we will be getting a left back soon. Tactical reason to not allow other team to believe we are desperate to get a left back for next season or other wise the price we will be quoted would be unreal.

Young is a squad player at best. If we're using him as left back next season, Jose is clueless. Crosses are hit and miss, he is always out of position and he's is targeted by opposition coaches.

If he's still a regular feature in the side I'll be pulling my hair out next season.

I like Young, but he should of been sold years ago.

OK, well considering Youngy would play around 30 PL games, and probably get rested for most of the League Cup... 50 games would mean we would get to the final of both the Champions League and The FA Cup (with a game spare for a replay somewhere).

I'll take that.

He tried using his left foot a few times... how can a pro football player not even get the ball close to a teammate in the box with his bad foot? Shocking really.. everyone knows that he can only use one foot too so all those cutting back to his right foot and crosses are so predictable...

Really need a better left back next season.

Zero natural width. 95% of the time he'll cut back in. He tries so I can't fault him, but we'll be a completely different team with a RB & LB that can run in behind and put in better balls. Think Kyle Walker / Mendy, Marcelo / Carvajal, even Alexander Arnold / Robertson.. it's just a step up.

Got away with that handball I reckon, he's done a job for us but it looks like we're going to bring in an upgrade this summer which will hopefully help with the dynamic of that wing so not everyone is looking to cut inside.

The way I see Young is, he's likely to make a mistake that puts us a goal down but can also sometimes put in a cross that helps us cancel that goal out. But sometimes its hard to see the point of that. If you have an attack minded defender who leaves you vulnerable then surely the point is for them to be super productive where they are setting up 2 goals for each 1 they make a mistake for. Thats Dani Alves, not Ashley Young

Get rid! His dilly-dallying on the ball is one of the most infuriating things I have ever seen in football. I'm sure one of the bottom clubs would love a player like him.

Got into some good positions, especially in the second half. Unfortunately, because he's not naturally left footed, it meant that he had to cut back most of the time.

He's done an decent job this season, but it's obvious we need a left back.

He can be back up to the left back and right back, as he can play both. Similar to Danilo at City.

I'm quite happy because after today I don't expect to see him as our LB in any meaningful game again.

New LB in the summer with Shaw as back up.

Young is a cockroach. He always starts the season out of sight but somehow manages to creep into the team by the end of the season. At 33 going into next season I don't see him repeating that trick again.

Theres no problem with cutting back. Its that he cant cross.

I really don't like watching him play, still mystery to me how he managed to stay at the club that long and how big of a role he's still playing.
