Galway utd dont own their own ground, have an u15, 17 and 19 team that dont have a set training ground, borrow from other local galway team grounds, they rent eamon deacy park from Gfa . Not sure what the attraction is been honest and im from there

I honestly think this could be related to all the Saudis who come to Galway to study English. I taught so many of them over the years. That's my crazy theory, anyway.

Imagine in a few years there being European football in Galway. That would be brilliant. I’m not going come on here and say I’m some life long Galway united fan. I’m not, I always found the LOI a little depressing to be honest. I guess the proof is when all the best players are trying to get moves to lower division teams in England or Scotland but if we could keep these prospects and have top class youth coaching who knows where it could end up. Maybe a few more clubs will attract Investment too. It Could prove be a very smart move if the football improves. Galway is sports mad, I think the market is there to be tapped.

Edit/ I’m fairly sure there was some April fools spoof one year saying Galway United were being taken over by a Russian tycoon... life imitating art....

Reports say they've promised a e500,000 investment to start.
Is £500k the extent of the investment or are we talking City/PSG levels? In the case of the latter, would they not be better served breaking away from the IFA and joining the premier league?

FAI, the IFA is in Northern Ireland. I highly highly doubt they want them in the English system. 500k is huge for the league of Ireland.

That's why I asked if the initial doping of 500k would be the limit they are prepared to invest, or is that simply a startup fund with plans to invest significantly more further down the road.

All hearsay for now I reckon. This is what came out of the meeting last night. The local weekly paper is out on Thursdays and it'll hopefully have more details.

The club only became fan-controlled 6 months ago I gather, it's a very interesting move for them to give away control again so soon.

So nothing concrete then? Just wondering if it's worth placing a bet on Galway United to win the premiership in 2028. Reckon I'd get some tasty odds.

This is going to be an increasingly common thing in the LOI, because the clubs themselves are cheap to gain a majority stake in and investors - see Peak6 at Dundalk - believe they have a puncher's chance of reaching European competition regularly without the need for the usual level of investment. That then allows you to start offering multi-year, 52 week contracts to players, which means they won't lose players for nothing because they only have 10-11 month deals, their value is far greater and allows the club to, in theory, turn over high value assets to cross-channel clubs, creating another, in theory, sustainable revenue stream.

No disrespect to Galway, but what are the Saudi people actually looking to achieve?

To own a club, probably.
Yeah, I know that, but what are they hoping to achieve?

Domination of a league no one actually cares about, that won't attract players capable of making a statement other than their own league.

A way to get Saudi players used of high level european league football before the next world cup. Seriously

They will go City 2.0 and put all sorts of sponsors and investments on the books to finance Neymar .. Kompany might even win the quadruple with them .

Galway United as a European force to be reckoned with is:

A) Not a sentence anyone has ever said out loud and in public. Ever.

B) Not possible.

C) Just no.

D) Who the hell are Galway United anyway?

b, meh, I'll be surprised it they end up Irelands best team.

c, true

d, Trust me dude thats a can of worms you don't wanna open...

If ever there was a goal to sum up Galway United then this is probably it...

Me! Wonder if any of us actually
know each other?
I was having a pint in Killoran's in Salthill with a friend one afternoon years ago. The place was more or less empty. This auld one eyed us up for a while, walked over and said "I don't know any of ye scum" and walked out the door.

It'd be exactly like that. :D
