Last season he started like this and he was doing just fine. Cameo for last 30 mins and grab goals. Lets see what he can do untill January. The balls on him to perform like many believe. I dont buy this Mourinho wreck him anymore. Shaw literally who got wrecked by Jose or many told like that can turn the table at last. Why not the future ballon d'or winner Anthony Martial?
Lucky for Shaw we didn't sign a world class player for silly money to play ahead of him. Not the case for Martial, he has to compete with a player who gets away with murder every week but our fans are oblivious to it because he runs around a bit and points at his teammates angrily.

If he can perform better than that so called world class player thats on him. He isnt world class player just yet for commanding to play whenever he wants or whatever he likes.
Get away with murder what? Are you blind not read Alexis got slaughter every week for his performance? Players get murder every week here if they didnt perform. Has you look at Pogba's one? If you really believe Martial is a world class but he cant dislodge a broken world class like Alexis its on him.
I get tired of this same old excuses for Martial. At the end of the day, he must man up and that take chance whenever he on the pitch.
Last summer he going awol for his kid, people slaughtered Jose for not giving him his paternity right's leave for 2 weeks and you see Morata and Sane. Did they going awol for god how long and sulking not get their paternity leave's right? I bet Sarri and Pep get sued right?
Ronaldo mad at Jose doesnt stop him perform like a world class player should do. He won one of his only two La Liga title under manager he hated. Hazard mad at Jose and still won PL under him and be one of their best players. Matic supposed to be the one who kicked Jose from Chelsea but he bust his ass for Jose again in United. No hard feeling but thats a world class player should do.
You know what mate? If some world class players got classed with Jose and still perform really well maybe Martial isnt one after all. His mentality needs to change for his own sake.

Not entirely sure what sort of reply you're hoping for here. If a player, no matter who he is, isn't trying then he'll be unlikely to even make the bench. It's not like Mourinho is going to stick someone on the bench unless the player has showed that he should be involved in the squad. The obsession with interpreting facial expressions and body language needs to stop. No wonder people lost the plot over the Rooney - Ronaldo incident at the World Cup.

Not looking for any responses, my point is that he just doesn’t try hard enough and as such, surprised he gets anywhere near the team. Has miles more talent than the likes of Lingard but I’d take Jesse any day.

I meant the manager not the fans FFS. If Martial had been a starter and performed like Sanchez, he would get kicked out of the team but not Sanchez he plays every game in the position that he prefers.

I don't understand how you can compare Matic with Martial, for starters Matic starts every game regardless of performance.

Sanchez is shite but the effort is there.

Martial is shite and the effort is not there.

I mean, it's not hard to see who goes into the team every Saturday really. I'm not sure why there is confusion.

I was at the game. I genuinely don't get the criticism on here. He made a couple of bad decisions when in a one on one situation but he was also denied a goal from a good bit of last-ditch defending and created a good opportunity with his cross which no one really bothered to attack. He was our outlet for the time he was on, which kind of necessitated him being a little detached on the defensive front, and his performance, much like the rest of the teams during the time he was on, was patchy but it's hardly a reason to want him to be run out of the club.

In fact, from where I was sat, Pogba was getting more grief from the fans than Martial did (not an opinion I agreed with - thought he was good in the first half and had a bad 15 mins in the second which coloured their perception IMO), and he has been eulogised on here after the game.

It's got to the point now where it's just funny how bad he is. It's like when Bebe was here. If you didn't laugh you'd cry.

Fans around me genuinley laughing when he ran into opponents and misplaced passes. Not only were the Watford fans mocking him, sections of his own support were.

Like to see him play on the right more. Him and Pogba linking up down that flank would be far more dangerous than Lingard/Mata.

We should play Rashford/Martial as a wide right forward to run in behind Lukaku, Valencia plays as a wing back. Tho I'd switch Pogba to the left side & Fred to the right for defensive balance.

The one thing that annoyed me was when we were on a break away near the end of the game and he wasn't up with the play, he was basically jogging.
When is the last time he had a good game?
This!!! Lukaku ran the whole field to recover a ball , and this guy does not even bothered. Can somebody tell me why Lukaku can make it and he cant?

Since he scored at Burnley last January, then we signed Sanchez and he got moved out of position. Meh.

Martial reminds me of Memphis Depay.

When Depay used to play for Manchester United he was so full of himself. He thought that playing for a big club made him a big player.

Now that reality has set in, he's more humble. He's learned that he's NOT a top player and that he plays for a midtable club in a farmers league.

And almost 2 years later, NO big clubs are bidding for him.

believer that Sancho will turn it around
Didn't think he was really that bad and actually made a few good runs off the ball to work himself into dangerous areas. After he got into a wide area for a cross which nobody was quite able to get on the end of I think Jose told him not to get too far forward, which is why he didn't bust a gut to get up on the counter with Pogba and Lukaku. I could be wrong, though.

I've been critical of Martial, but thought he did fine against Watford.

We need to stop calling the French league a “farmers league”

No, not Lisbon..Lisburn!
To me he was just meh again. His fans seem to clutch at straws to try and big up his performances or they bring out a catalogue of excuses and mitigating circumstances for any underwhelming performances.
I would just like to see him ignite on the pitch, whether as a starter or coming on for twenty minutes. Simples.

Anyone but Rashford
We had a chance late on the counter when Lukaku chased down a pass. He was just left entirely alone - Pogba eventually got up in support and literally ran past Martial to get there. It's not just defensive workrate - There's a lack of intensity to his game which is just unforgivable. Away from him in particular he's a liability. Plays the game at his own pace.

Depay looks a different player playing as a striker. Less time he has to spend on the ball which was all he was doing at United. I would not write him off just yet.

Don't know if some of our coaches had a word with him in the break but looked completely different in second half. Very energetic and running at defenders. Deserved the goal and hopefully he builds up on this.

Good second half from him. Looked lively, didn't hide from the ball, good signs...

He was better tonight than Sanchez has been all season, and he wasn't even that outstanding, which is more of an indictment on how awful Sanchez has been than anything else. He's earned himself a start on this weekend, hopefully Jose feels the same way.

Please don't play Sanchez at the weekend, need to let Martial build on that second half

Played well tonight, if he keeps it up he’ll get his place in the team.

Looked like he was going to fall asleep at the start of the match, and then someone, prolly Mou, gave him a nice cup of coffee at half time. Grew into the game nicely, even did some running. Deserves a start next game.

Very good 2nd half. He really gave it a go and was everywhere.

Should work on his passing but all in all good game.

Better this evening than Sanchez since we signed him. Good to see him play well in the second half and bag a goal. Wonder if Mourinho or any of the other coaches got him going at half time?
