Out of interest, did Froome win this already?
Don't think he did. He was shortlisted last year but just didn't connect with British public for whatever reason unlike Bradley Wiggins and now Geraint Thomas.

BTW as a resident BBC got a cheek pitching up in Brum and saying how wonderful it is.

They've cut so much funding to local media since Pebble Mill (old TV and radio headquarters in Edgbaston) closed down.

God what an awkward ending this is.

Pretty sure the tradition to finish has always been to announce the winner and then the crowd applaude them lifting the award and then the show cuts. Now we have George Ezra in a fecking waistcoat.

I think he's lived most of his life in South Africa. This seems like the type of award where people go nuts and vote for their 'local' nomination, and I'm guessing he doesn't really have a dedicated local fan base.

Still shocks me that they went to Brum at all, no one does that out of choice surely

They held it at NEC a few years back. Think last year was in Leeds. No excuse anymore to hold it just in London anyway.

So Froome won the TDF 4 times and held all 3 grand tour titles at the same time, but never won this award.
No he made the shortlist the year ironcially he failed some sort of drugs test. I remember an awkward interview when it had to be mentioned.

Hated going to see anything at the NEC, the last train out was always earlier than the end of a show so you have to leave early.

Looking through social media a lot of outrage over no Fury. He drew his one big fight he isn’t in top 3 for boxing for 2018 never mind all of British sport.
Plus he has a terrible personality.
