Strongest indication that he is thinking of leaving would be the fact that he keeps turning down contract extensions, not the absurd interpretations of his social media account and goal celebrations.

I'm in no doubt he wasn't happy under Jose and his current situation is the residue of that but that said, the current situation under Ole is somewhat of a false one as the answer who's going to manage us next season remains unanswered. I think is as much an issue than how much we are willing to pay him.....

His agent seemed to say it was an issue of money.

He’ll stay if we pay him what he’s worth.

He’d probably be one of the top scorers in the league this year if he’d started every game.

Martial will stay, he is now happy with the new management and will sign a new contract that goes with his talent. He deserves more than what Sanchez is getting and if we're not willing to pay it, then another team will not hesitate.

What do we think will be his goal return for the league will be and what would be acceptable? He’s on 8 right now which is ridiculous as from what I can see he has only taken 14 shots and has a 93% accuracy certainly needs to be taking more shots on when your likes of Kane, Salah and so on are in the 50’s but they also have almost double the minutes.

I think he probably needs to be aiming for 15 this season and next year 20 or above.

We have half a season left. Minimum of 15, but I would be expecting closer to 20+ really.

Said the offer wasn't close to what they want. My guess would be that's monetary.
"I am very pessimistic about discussions going positively," Lamboley told RMC Sport (h/t Tony Mogan at the Evening Standard). "They've already made several offers that come nowhere near to what we expect."

It might be money, might not be money, it's hardly a surprise (given his situation) that he's not in a rush to sign a new long term agreement.

You can make that guess but you could also assume that it was about contract length, the absence or presence of clauses that he wanted or didn't want. It could definitely be solely monetary but personally I would guess that it was about game time + money + clauses that allows him to leave relatively easily.

Every contract negotiation is going to be painful after that Sanchez salary, I mean it would have been foolish to expect otherwise. Ed basically raised the salary floor for entire club.

It'll sound weird, but it's never really felt like he's ours. Despite the romantic debut, I've just never felt the love from him. It's understandable, an incredibly talented player with bags of ability who was forced to play under LvG and Jose. I can see why he might be a bit resentful.

I really hope he stays, we've had this quality player shackled up for so long, and now we might lose him just as we get into a position to get the best out of him. That would be so frustrating.

He loves the fans, is consistently celebrating with the away fans. His agent has been hard balling, but there has been nothing but respect shown towards the fans and club by Martial himself.

Weird as he's always been keen to say how much he appreciates the unconditional support he gets from fans.

Looked poor to me all honestly. Didn't affect the game much and subbing him off was the correct decision.

Having literally nothing on the right side puts more impetus on him to deliver on the left.

I thought he did pretty well for most of the time but they just defended well and put everything into shutting him and Pogba down (both of them were good, but quiet). We scored right after he came off but after that it was the perfect situation for him, with them finally coming out and committing more men forward.

Not a great game, but besides Herrera and Lindelöf perhaps, who did? He keeps trying to get involved, which is the minimum requirement.

He tends to struggle against pacy RBs. With Sanchez back, he might end up finding himself on the bench.

Had some great flicks & passes that created 1v1s that didn't end up to anything & did his best. Could have been sharper when taking on defenders & a final ball or two. Decent performance, but he was well defended against. Once again we see his side of the pitch being constantly congested. We really need to fix our width with either Sanchez RW & a proper RWB.

He was pretty bad.
What? I really can never take you seriously. Must have created 5 chances in the first half and was a constant threat working in tight areas against a packed defence that was all shifted over due to the lack of anyone on the right. The game completely opened up for us when we took Mata off and put Rashford on the right hence why we found it a lot easier.
Should have had a goal as well if Mata didn’t screw up that pass to him that he lofted in to the air.

His passing was all over the place tonight.

Mainly struggled due to how Newcastle set up and shaw not being able to get forward much.

First 15-20 mins we got the ball to him and he was able to run at the full back. For some reason we stopped doing it and tried to penetrate through the middle.

Not his greatest game, but as I said in the Pogba thread, it's hard to maintain the level of performance the players have set, and this was always going to be a tough away game.

Expect him to have a rest vs Reading and be fresh for our next league game against Spurs.

He wasn't as effective today but considering how many matches we've had in a row and how deep Newcastle played it's no wonder.
He can have a well earned rest now.

I don't remember 5 tbh. He did try things but like the poster above me said, he kept running in to a brick wall.

You can't take me seriously? Take a look at some of the comments in this thread. I'm not the only one who thought he wasn't good. We started playing much better after he went of and scored right away.

Although pretty much everyone was bad until the subs.

Really dangerous in the first half despite the lack of right wing and looked the most likely to create something for us. Luckily we got the breakthrough straight away. Wrap him up for Spurs game.

No need for the micro-analysis. The team unit was less effective, largely because Newcastle sat incredibly deep and doubled up on Martial and Pogba in every given opportunity.

The pair of them are not going to blow every single team away in every minute they play. If this is their low level under Ole, I'll take it.

Does anyone else question his dribbling ability? It's a weird critique because he's left defenders for dead so many times. But I find he often gets muddled up on the ball and almost forgets it behind him when taking players on.

He can obviously dribble no doubt, I just don't think he's as world class at it as I once did.

Not a bad match from him at all though, some good moments. I thought he was just as good today as he was against Bournemouth (where he actually got an assist). Consistency is important for him.

True. He struggles against those he fails to outpace, like Yedlin and Walker, but there are very few of them. It's strange though, because unlike Rashford, Martial doesn't rely that much on his speed. He usually dribbles and feints his way past defenders.

Good in patches, but we need to make our right side a priority.
