Nice soundbite but what is the “United under Fergie”?

also, you’re never getting whatever that was back because Fergie is gone and because football/the league/our rivals have changed.
To answer your question, the 'United under Fergie' topic has been done to death, so I'll keep it short. If throughout the games in a season, no matter how badly we're playing or how much time is left, if we're behind and I can have a genuine belief that we can still come back and win this, then I know that we're back.

Anyway, I thought I was quite neutral in my original post. I didn't say that I wanted the fergie way back or anything in particular. I was just saying that if the club wants the fergie United back, then knowing the club is essential. But if the club just wants to be successful, then knowing the club is not strictly required, but it is a bonus. What do you think?

I’m confused. If “United under Fergie” comes down to a team that instills belief that they can turn a game around at any moment, then I don’t see the need for the “knowing the club” qualifier. I mean, most good/successful/well coached teams are like that.

No offence, but did you watch united under fergie? If you did, then surely you would know what I'm talking about? I wouldn't think that I would need to explain that feeling to a United fan. Its not mere belief. Its not something as simple as we can still come back. Its a conviction so strong that we're going to come back and win this. A conviction that no other team in the modern era could match. I don't care if we've only got 5 minutes to score 2 goals, we can still do it. We can have 0 shots for 85 minutes, you give us 2 chances, we'll score 2 goals.

Are you seriously telling me that you don't get what I'm going on about?

Yes, I watched United under Ferguson, and this is a bunch of waffle  no offence.

Yes, we were strong, not always the strongest or best team, and yes we always had a chance, but most quality teams always do.

Either way, again, Ferguson is gone, and that coming back is less to do with “knowing the club” but more with the quality of coaching, management and playing staff.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...

So 'the United way' is actually a feeling that you got due to United being coached by a genius manager...

I was assessing Ole, I can't speak much for the likes of Souness and Dalglish, and the particular problems Liverpool faced in their transition.

And no, I'm not arguing that good stuff is due to Ole and bad stuff is due to the players, but clearly Ole played a part. The first few weeks we saw moves that they were explicitly working on pay off and win us games. We rode our luck a bit, but clearly that's evened out lately.

Try reading it again. His claim was that we've fallen into the pitfalls that Liverpool did back in the day with their club history appointments, when we demonstrably didn't do that for the first 6 years post Fergie.
Fair enough it was kinda late and I mixed it up with other posts who do use that logic which is absurd and i cringe when i see someone use it.

I tend to get romantic when I talk about Fergie's United. So no offence taken at all. But I'll repeat myself again. What I've said from the start is simply: If we want success, we don't need to have someone who knows the club, although it is a bonus. But if we want fergie's United back, then knowing the club is essential. I did not express a particular preference for either outcome. You've misunderstood me from the very beginning.
