I really like matic as a footballer. He was once a great defensive midfielder. Exactly the type of player we need now when he was in his prime. But he’s not offered much in 18 months and he just can’t cover the ground he needs to anymore, never mind the fact he forgot how to pass the ball. Why he’s starting is probably the biggest mystery at the club at the moment, he just wanders around and gives the ball away.
Yes, this season. He actually had some really good games this season, but last 2 months he is playing terrible. A bit clueless. Under Mourinho he has some bad games, everyone did... But he never looked clueless out there, like has been past 2 months.

He was even worse in the first few months this season under Mourinho. If it weren't for Lukaku reaching a level of shitness never seen before, Matic would have been our worst player during that period. He did come good for about a month when Ole took over, but then his form dropped away again.
I actually didn't think Matic was 'that' bad today. My big take away from it was that, even though he wasn't great, we had a better balance in midfield while he was there. Once he went off we lost any ability to spread the play with any kind of structure.
He’s had a handful of world class games for United. Outside of that he’s been dogshite.

Anyone who watched him during his final few months at Chelsea could see he was well and truly on a steep decline. I’ve never been a huge fan of his as a player, and for me, he’s never come close to being a top player. He had what, maybe 2 really top quality seasons in his career. Proper Mourinho signing, this one.

He had a very bad season. He is slow and doesnt add much to the game. I don’t feel he should be in Ole’s plans for next year. He wouldnt fit the style of play Ole is talking about. I felt Mctominay was better when deployed in that position
Him in our XI will be disaster. Unless if we got Kante next to him to help him & Pogba becomes as good as Kante in defending may be I’m okay to see him in XI. Too slow, poor positioning & ball watching, lack of awareness when off the ball.
McTominay tended to play more in Herrera's position. Fred was the one closer to the Matic role where he sat a bit deeper and attempted to help control the team around.
I would be happy to never have to watch him in the shirt again. Unfortunately, I think I am asking for too much.
Feel like with Matic everytime he picks up a bit of form he gets run into the fecking ground. Manage his game better and we'll have a useful player on our hands imo.

I agree. Matic was played way too much. When used sparingly as opposed to playing every single game, he has shown himself to be a really good player.
The perfect example of him playing too much is each time he came back from injuries, he was thrown into games to finish them for 90m, I think we either lost or drew them (the 0-3 Spurs trashing is sure in my mind but there was another example of OGS that I can't remember)
At his age, he should not be rested as a 35 years old player. Carrick was playing every game at that age. Also he played 38 games the whole season. Its not about fatigue, its about not being consitent enough to be the main midfielder at Manchester United.
I’d sell him if there’s someone willing to offer a fee of 10+ million pounds.
