A man with a great future behind him. Had the tools and the opportunity. I defended him longer than others—probably too long—but it’s been a while since he justified any sort of hope. Deadwood.

How we got rid of the da silva twins, chicharito and nani before Jones is bewildering
And Evans and Blind. Whether or not they were good enough to start for us, Jones should've been the first of the three to go.

He’s a terrible player. He’s done amazingly well to carve out a career at this level for so long. He even fooled Fergie.

It's alright. He'll be injured soon and then when he comes back he'll have his customary couple of good games and we'll all be told what a great defender he is.

Dire performance with the kind of mistakes expected from him. Has an alright performance every now and then and people question why he was ever criticised.

Spot on. A lot of posters here seem to have selective amnesia when it comes to Jones.

He fecks up time and time again, then strings together a couple of decent games at home to teams that don't pose any kind of attacking threat, and the deluded "he's great when fit!" souls come out the woodwork.

Never play this clown again. He's massively injury prone and crap when he's fit - this is not a Ledley King situation where he's worth persisting with because he's excellent when healthy. The fact he's been at the club for EIGHT years blows my mind.

Ole is one the one including him, therefore Solskjaer's influence is as bad as Jones performance.

This is someone we have rewarded with an extensive contract.

What a bunch of facts
Feel free to point out a year in the last 5 where he's managed to actually stay fit all season and hasn't been injured multiple times mate.

He isn't good enough to be 1st choice, and his atrocious injury and illness record makes him unreliable and not even good enough as a 3rd-4th choice option. Even during the rare times he is fit he's nothing special, certainly nothing we couldn't replace with any decent centreback in the PL.

What in the f*ck does his injury record have to do with him being scapegoated during games or anything else that I've stated in my original post!?!?!?

I think he gave away the ball 3 times for no reason. Two times in the first half and one time in the second.
Today he made 5 tackles, 1 interception and 3 clearances. He was fouled more times than he fouled (2-1) and his pass completion rate was almost 90%. But lets concentrate on the 3 bad passes he made that didn't amount to any threat from Huddlesfield and then pretend that we aren't scapegoating him...SMH

He's likely retiring here on 200k+/w pay at age 35. I can't see him leaving this summer at least. Our board has been rewarding mediocrity for years now.

Mate I am one of Jones bigger supporters generally. He had a poor game, but yes he was not why we didn't win. Only scoring 1 goal against a poor Huddersfield team was the big problem and our attack would not have been better without Jones. One of those passes did result in a very good chance for Huddersfield too.

Turning on Shaw, Jones and Shaw today would miss the bigger problem. It is our attack that struggle even against the worst team in the league and have 2 goals in the last 5 games.

Mate you replied to my post in which i said he can't stay fit by labeling it a load of shite.

Thats why we are discussing his injury record. His complete inability to stay fit for any decent period of time is what defines Phil Jones.

His strength isn't how he plays with the ball at his feet. This is true. However, the only reason people should be talking about him today is about how good he was defensively. Anyone on here complimenting him? Not at all...

I am a huge fan of Big Phil Jones, and I honestly think he is an excellent CB.

And their strikers really didn't have a sniff today. So at least he did his main job well.

But his attempted passing and playing out of the back was atrocious. That is hard to defend.

That goal today means our defense has conceded 52 goals this year.

Our attack is poor. But our defense is even worse.

We as a fanbase tend to criticize our better players more harshly because more is expected of them. It's a disease.
It's a virus that spreads and infects all the new players. Then they get away from here examples of Zaha and Blind etc and become the most important players on their team.

So you watched the game today, and think that our defense is the main problem?

We ended the game with Young and Jones at CB does that not bother you?
Yes it bothers me. But with the score of 1-1 against the worst team in the League, when they have nothing to play for while we have, you can tell where our problem lies.

Is there any point writing that? He's just signed on for another FIVE years!

Well everytime Jones tried to play out from the back he gave the ball to a Huddersfield player.

It's things like this that slow down our transition from defence to attack. Yes we need better attackers but it doesn't help that our defense is so passive and need to 293736 touches before they pass the ball and when they do decide to pass they give the ball away.

He's really lucky that Rojo and Bailly are worse or he'd have been gone this summer.
You sure about that? I think the inept board would still sign him because of how long he's been here. His poor fitness record and limited contributions appearance wise didn't seem to deter them. Its not just the board, Jones is popular among the coaches and Fergie always had a soft spot for him, he's here for sentimental reasons IMO.

Sign Gary Cahill and Welbeck on frees as squad depth to neutralise the need to keep donkeys around for the quotas.

Jones is clearly staying, so put the daft twat at rightback if it’s necessary to use him; that’s where he was initially well regarded anyway.

Our attack being so toothless plays it's part in how many goals we concede. Opposition teams are happy to throw significant numbers forward because they have absolutely no fear of our attack hurting them. They also win the ball back easily so get more opportunities (which makes them more confident).

A lot more games is what is needed to make Jones a steadier footballer. For Everton perhaps. For his own sake, Jones should move somewhere else.

Can't be relied upon both fitness wise and playing wise. And yet we renewed for 5 years. Phil Jones is approaching testimonial level time spent at the club.

The Sanchez deal and renewing this clowns contract are 2 of the worst decisions in modern football history.
