We may be talking at cross purposes.

When I talk about physical presence, I am talking about the mobility, the pace off the mark .. all the attributes you need in the modern game to put defenders under pressure and nip the ball off their toes or pressure them into making a mistake. I am not talking about physically holding them off or using power to hold the ball up or run through players. I personally feel that style is no longer relevant. I am struggling to think of any player in the top teams who plays like that. Plenty of mobile, quick and agile players. Rashford seems very adept at getting beyond defensive lines as Filippo Inzaghi was.

I do not think Rashford is world class but I do think he has the potential to be one day. Time will tell I guess.
That's how I read your post - it's clear Rashford occupies defenders, stretches the play, makes centre halves turn and generally provides them with a problem and a headache. He has pace and mobility that forces them to move and respond constantly, which is a terrific quality for a striker.

The next step is going to be learning those runs which take him away from defenders to get shots off, and also becoming more consistent with his positioning in attacking situations so he can be the one to finish moves. At the moment, he is haphazard in his movement - he occupies the opposition, but sometimes to no great purpose.

In Bold ... Exactly and you articulate it a little better than I did :)

Definitely lots of tidy up work still to do on his game intelligence but I am really looking forward to watching him develop even further.

Gary Neville was asked on in YouTube interview the other day which of the current young England stars he rates highest. He said Rashford. No doubt he's bias but still unlikely he would have said it unless he sincerely believed it.

Gary Neville is part of the rot at old trafford. Rashford listens to this tripe and believes it. And another promising player goes down the egomaniac drain.

Ole needs to ton this Rashy bullshit and give him the hairdryer. He's been absolute pile of shit for some time and blowing hot air up his ass isn't helping the situation.

Can someone quickly thing of how many times this season has Rashfords little flicks actually come off? I can only think of 1 or 2 times. Most of the time it hits the leg of the defender behind him or it goes nowhere near a teammate.

I'm starting to lose faith in him.

He's pretty shite. He's always been a bit shite. But he's English and a local lad so he has a ridiculous level of protection.

100% agreed and his constant love for lingard too.
It's a general hard-on for homegrown local lads, I feel.

I swear if I hear him call him Rashy one more time.... You're the boss of a severely under-performing employee. The chummy, friendly shit isn't helping. Cut it the feck out, you're embarrassing yourself.

Offer him an extension with reasonable wage and tell him he will be a part of the squad and not automatic starter, if he refuses then sell him.

He's not Ronaldo and he doesn't deserve anywhere near what he wants.

I actually think he needs a loan to another PL club or abroad - away from the spotlight and away from the protection that match going fans will give him.

Are people already talking about Ole's love for Lingard and Rashford? Have we got better player available right now to replace Lingard and Rashford, it's easy to say that when we don't have available players to replace them, that show how shit is our attacking depth.

Him and Lingard are the Jones and Smalling of attackers. They going to be rinsing us for a long time. Sadly Ole loves them.

End of season game, nothing to play for, against a relegated team and Ole starts rashy and lingyy. Gomes should have started and he could have given martial a chance to play as a centre forward.

At the moment Ole is digging his own grave.

It's getting embarrassing now. Here come the excuses again. I expect he'll still be 'potentially worldclass' when hes 25 and we're languishing in 12th.

He's still young but he's seemingly been a first team player all season with an ok but not spectacular goals record. Might want to improve a bit more before getting that 200k new contract.

He can’t pass or head the ball. So how’s he going to play striker for us if he can’t do the basics?

2 or 3 years ago I wrote that we'll be lucky if he turns out to be as good and reliable as J. Defoe, let alone trully world class striker and I still stand by that. that's actually pretty good level and I'd gladly accept it now.

He's definitely a good player, although as I said earlier, isn't ready yet to be our main striker...yet.
He needs to cut out those crap flicks though. They don't work!

There was a situation with Pereira, Rashford had the ball, Andreas overlaps in the box behind him, Rashford instead of passing it first time makes another unnecessary stupid fake/touch and then passes to Pereira and catches him wrong footed. Stupid beyond words, decision making was appalling.

Give “Rashy“ all the freedom he wants, blow smoke up his arse and you get what we're seeing now. I like Rashford, but his development isn't heading in the way I was hoping any you get a sense of arrogance now. Can't be relied on to lead the forward line, I hope OGS sees that too

His selfishness is getting absurd now. Needs to start keeping it more simple and become a team player.

Seems to be obsessed with being a hero.

He’s as selfish as Ronaldo with half of the talent, he needs to stop. Ole isn’t helping with all the praise either, he is believing all this hype.

Half of the talent ? that's ridiculous Jamie Vardy is levels above Rashford and he's not half a Ronaldo.

Rashford is the 21st century reincarnation of Gabriel Agbonlahor

He shouldn’t be leading the man united front line every week. Lukaku was the man expected to do this, Sanchez was expected to jointly do this.

Sadly neither have really done what was hoped and Rashford defaults as the next person to lead the line. He’s too young, too patchy and not quite good enough. Maybe in 3-4 years, but not now. We need a world class striker playing every week getting 30 goals, with Rashford deputising.

In the Fergie era Rash doesn’t get near the leading striker position

Ridiculous performance today. All those flicks, all those empty passes, all those feints for zero end product. Also, someone really needs to work with him with regards to heading the ball.

He was so much better back when he was hungry. Now it feels like he thinks he’s the dogs bollocks and top man.

That’s the problem with our fan base and the coaches, he’s been labelled the golden boy for too long and now he believes the hype.

hopefully Greenwood will keep him honest from now on as we’ve got a potentially younger better striker on our hands.

I hope we buy a first choice striker for next season. I want to like Rashford but he doesn't make it as easy as he used to. He should be a backup choice regardless. He's always played better with something to prove and less pressure.

Needs a long rest. Looks like he's had to play with niggles for a couple of months, and has lost something.

Agree that he certainly can't be the main striker next season though. That'd be very dangerous.
