Commentator is a complete gimp, doesn't grasp the new var offside raising flag rule and claims Suarez was clearly offside when it was just his knee slightly. Can't see the red line, no?

He's been playing as a left full/wing back for the past few years. Tabarez prefers Caceres at that role, which is why we haven't seen much of him.
Tabarez regards Laxalt as a more expansive option, in those cases Cáceres plays left. He tried young Giovanni Gonzalez at RB vs Chile and he did well so was unlikely to bench him here.

That's fair. Laxalt is better off as a wing back anyways. I always thought that Uruguay looked good in a back 3 with Laxalt and Nandez as the wing backs, but this 4-4-2/4-3-3 is working for them so far.

Without VAR this would have finished a comfortable 4-1 once the advantage made for a more open game.

Basically, VAR is no good for sides that defend and hope to nail one of few chances :nervous:

Whoever I bet on
Fluminense made personalised shirts for the teams using their facilities to train. Spot the difference in how both teams went about collecting their presents.

I cannot believe no one has responded to this. I'have had an irrational hard-on for Argentina since the Batistuta years, but I now really hope you guys go ahead and do it.

I'm surprised that Cueva's lasted this long. He's done barely anything throughout the match. I'm also surprised that Ruidiaz hasn't gotten more minutes for Peru. He's done quite well for the Sounders in MLS.

Commentator now saying "whats the point in bringing on a striker at 96 mins, he wont even touch the ball!"

where do they find these morons?

I think the days when most South American sides were cavalier and swashbuckling are coming to an end. Venezuela, Colombia, and Peru have all been more defensive and pragmatic than they've ever been.

Oddly, Argentina may never have a better chance to win the Copa than now.

If Messi just finds some form again, they can knock out Brazil.

Bit of a shock for me there, had Uruguay winning the whole thing. Big boost for Brazil/Argentina with them and Colombia going out.

Antohan was right; in the end, this wasn't a favourable matchup for them. Uruguay struggled against a smaller side, and honestly, they should have been winning. Those missed chances from Cavani and Godin as well Suarez's penalty miss will haunt them.

Muslera was terrible during the penalties. If you guess the corner then dive earlier, didn't get to one in time despite guessing most of them right.

Oh well, I do have a soft spot for Peru and Guerrero, never wanted to play them. The semi with Chile will be tasty but the winner likely from the other semi.

So long as Argentina don't catch us up on 15 Copas...

Hopefully a Brazil-Peru final

It would be really cool to have a third consecutive Argentina X Chile final

Chile with a chance to go to a third straight final which is amazing for them.

Penalties after 90 minutes is a terrible format in a tournament like this
After 3/4 games ended 0-0 that's not really the conclusion I would draw.

No chance with any penalty, can't believe someone is having a got at him.
Great penaltys from Peru, under that kind of pressure. Really impressive.

The Swiss players can't hit an open door from the penalty spot. Out of interst, does anybody on here remember the 2006 worldcup last 16 penalty shootout Switzerland-Ukraine?

Did you not go out without losing a single goal as well? Shevchenko iirc missed the opening penalty as well.

Ay...we didnt concede a goal from open play the whole tournament.

Sheva missed the first one.
And we went on to score the absolute amount of cero goals in our next three attempts. Leading Ukraine to a famous 3:0 win over penaltys.

Concratulations Peru!

Next year will be even easier since it wont be in Brazil and instead partly in Argentina as they're joint hosts.

I think its looking increasingly likely Argentina are going to win the whole thing now.

Tiger Woods will a rival for sporting story of the year if Messi lands this. Certainly VVD can kiss goodbye to the Ballon D'or.

No way re: Tiger Woods, but that's a definite upside.
