Three days of glorious sunshine in south Birmingham has come to the aid of Gary Barwell’s groundstaff, with Ashley Giles, the director of England cricket, having told Morgan it will be the best batting pitch of the tournament to date.

Crap..

Moeen dropped according to Dobell. Actually can't remember if he played the last match.

So it's basically Indian subcontinent vs British today. Very 1900s feel to the game.

I think Pant should open and Rahul back to four. Rahul hasn't looked impressive as an opener.

Glad we lost the toss. Looking forward to see how we chase - batted first too many times.

England in the driving seat after that toss.

Whatever the result, one of England and Pakistan get fecked so all good.
NZ won't be easy for Eng either. Even if England win today, Pak will have a decent chance.

No excuse for England now. Post a big score and it is your's to lose.
Woukd be a very good test for our bowlers too to see if they can restrict England to a low total.

We aren't chasing 350+ that England are gonna score here.
I'd take a loss here if it helps us learn for the knockouts.

Anyway our bowling is world class - let's see how it goes. I don't think England are smashing us that easily

Should open with Chahal for two overs imo. Bairstow and Roy have shown a weakness against leg spinners.

You don't talk half shit in here.
India South Africa 2011. We lost and dropped Pathan for Raina, and he was brilliant in the knockouts.

Series before the WC - Morgan won the toss and said he wants to chase even though it's a bat-first pitch to try different scenarios.

Teams learn from uncomfortable situations regularly, but you wouldn't know it being a simpleton.

But wr already played two tricky games where our batting did not perform well and we have acted on that by bringing in pant. How would a loss be good today, considering lose this and we might play England again in semis. Australia in 03 and 07 won every match and never had any problem. Win every match should be our goal.

I'm not saying we go out to lose. Chasing is good. What you don't want to do is bat first all the way and find ourselves chasing in the business end. England are the toughest team to be chasing against on average in the tournament.

No its ok lets lose to one of the tournament favourites who are desperately looking for a win and would be a huge result for them qualifying because somehow the same thing happened in 2011.

This attention seeking nerd cannot pollute this place more if he tried.

Agreed. Moby just being a dick as usual. Would rather get experience of chasing 300+ here rather than straight away in semis or finals.

So if the pitch is flat, Is it better to bat first or bowl first? I mean, if the bowlers get any sort of help, it's going to be at the beginning, right? and if the pitch is very flat, the chances of it deteriorating are not much, right?
I mean, I get the pressure of chasing 350+ but India are not under much pressure, win the next one against SL or against BAN and they should be making the semis. So England are the ones under more pressure.

Judging from the recent matches, chasing has been difficult for the natural pressure which is creates.

That's a fair point. Have to try out chasing too and this could be a great test.

Yet yesterday you wanted Pakistan to lose which affects England's qualification chances way more. Logic not your strength.

This looks like a batting paradise. So England did manage to pull their strings then and have a flat track.

It's always fun seeing zing go off on one at the smallest efforts.

Remember that one time he brought forward his data analyst work experience to show how some IPL bowler was more likely to get hit in the next game.

Bumrah is such a pleasing bowler to watch. It’s more noticeable at the death, but his accuracy and consistency really is something.

I support India. Obviously I'd want Pakistan to lose every fecking game.

You are just rattled at the sight of Pant playing today. Who's the next player who you are going to predict as a test cricket failure before he has played a single ball of test cricket?
