I'm not convinced we are after this lad tbh. Everything linking us with him seems to be either coming from his club or their media. We might have made an enquiry and I think this is what they may be reporting on.....
Nah if he was going elsewhere I think he would have by now, it's clear sporting want to sell.

IMO Sporting are asking for way too much money, they've seen Joao Felix move for 120m and expect to get a similar figure. That quite frankly isn't going to happen.

We've seen reports we value him at around 55m which is more realistic, so I think we're playing a game of chicken to see who moves first. I think it'll get done eventually for around 60-65m

Local fans or no local are not blaming him for that at all. You seem to bring up strange points which don't even exist.
They do. Pogba is an excellent assist machine who becomes more ineffective the deeper in midfield he goes. He's been like that since forever. You can't blame him for lacking workrate and is a liability in defending cause he was always like that. Few players will be the complete package including Bruno. I want Bruno here but if we set the same standards on him that we had for Pogba then he'll fail big time

We need to accept that there's no one good enough to sort midfield by himself

Why? They both looked so out of place in midfield. They had heart, they were pretty physical but they lacked/lack good decision making

Fred is less injury prone though while Ando was clearly more talented
They aren't similar in styles - in any way.

They are both Brazilian midfielders and that's it.

I do not care about styles. It's what they bring on the pitch that I care about

Funny that. Some say he's better as number 10, some as a left midfielder, some as a deep one. Also some said he's not a complete midfielder and that's not his game.
And he can be blamed for a lack of workrate just as any other player. He's never been blamed cause he can't do it all by himself.
Complete package would be a player who can defend too. It will be hard to replace him but not impossible and he is portrayed as some midfield general which he isn't, you said it yourself.

Is woodward waiting for sales before he can buy? If so they will not happen until late in transfer window,we will run out of time to buy anyone or if we do they will not settle into team quickly ,then we will lose points early on.
i think that he is waiting for sales first. I totally agree with the part in bold as that is basically what I have been stating and been fearful of for a while. The worst case scenario is not going players in in time which I dread to think about and I would liked to get them in much quicker to integrate them in the squad and get them used to Ole's methods to give him a better chance of being succesful.

Pogba is a successful WC player. He's an assist machine and a hugely technically gifted midfielder who did well wherever he had played including Manchester United. However, like most players like him he need some TLC. Juventus took the best out of him by playing him alongside Pirlo and Vidal, the former providing him with guidance while the latter doing all the hardwork. France took the best out of him by putting him alongside Matuidi and Kante. Football is a team game were players are expected to be great in 1-2 things and weak in others. Pogba is great in terms of assists. Its up for the club to bring players to accommodate him. There's nothing wrong with that either. Pirlo was a failed attacking midfielder up until Ancelotti decided to move him in midfield and to partner him with Gattuso. The latter was no WC player but his workrate made it possible for the partnership to flourish and become the best midfield pair of their generation. Sir Alex had never really warmed up at the prospect of Scholes playing as a striker. He moved him in midfield were Keane worked like a mule to allow him a smooth transition in his new role.

Our issue goes beyond Pogba and might explain why throughout our most successful patch that stretched throughout more then two decades we only won the CL twice. Our club's struggle to go beyond the 4-5 signings per year means that our operations often work at a snail pace. Which explains why players remain for 5-6-7 years despite being shit most of the time, why players are kept despite they are way past the expiry date, our obsession with players who can 'do the job' and why we tend to ignore problems for years (ex CM during Sir Alex, defense after Sir Alex). You can't have that in a properly run team. Once you get a top player then you must quickly respond by bringing in the necessary players he needs to do well. If a player fails to make an impact they the club should sell him quickly else its value will go down. Take Juventus as an example. They often buy 6-7 players every summer. We've got a shit side and we'll be lucky if we buy 5.

What I fear is that we bring Bruno Fernandes in this midfield and expect him to cover for all our weaknesses. That's utterly ridiculous. Bruno is a no 10. He needs two physical and mobile midfielders at his back who will allow him to stay as close as the striker as possible. That's were he is most effective. I said pretty much the same thing about Longstaff. The boy might be promising but bringing him in a midfield that is a total shambles is counterproductive both for us and himself. The only difference is that while Longstaff will be protected by local bias and he'll be relatively a low fee signing which would give him a free pass. Bruno is yet another Johnny Foreigner.

Herrera/DeGea the foreigners are loved by most fans and Lingard/Smalling/Jones the English players are hated by many. Somehow it doesn't fit the agenda.
De Gea has been our best player for years, bailing the chuckle brothers again and again. The moment he showed some weakness the vultures started circle around him around him and wanting him out. Herrera was a key player in our midfield for most of the time. As said you keep mentioning players who had actually been useful to the team unlike Lingard and the chuckle brothers.

I guess time will tell but Im not convinced. I think we are looking to buy English players that won't be dreaming of playing for Madrid in a couple of years time....

I get the reports of Ole wanting a British spine, but it doesn't mean we will only target British players from now on, that's just silly.

Madrid can't sign every player in the world.

I understand the point of a lot of foreign players might want to go off to Real Madrid in a couple of years. But if we sign a few for a couple of years and actually win something of note, it might convince them to stick around a but longer.

Amen! This is exactly what I'm thinking.

I'm speculating of course but why are the club so paranoid about foreign players leaving for Madrid? Put together a great team, with players who are the best you can find, regardless of where they are from and be successful.

Success breeds success. Those players won't move on if they are winning and if they are paid well.

I expect useless players who are stealing a living out of the club to get far more criticism then top players.

Don´t think we are in for him, this is one of those transfers that normally should be easy to work on.
If he was our priority signing he would have been here a long time ago.

Yeah and when I mentioned Rooney, Carrick you will come up with new excuse.

Smalling has been our best CB in the last 4-5 years, didn't stop the abuse he was getting. Rashford has been one of the best youngsters we had in recent years and one of the best young player in the league, still gets shit loads of abuse.

In any case, you said players get the abuse based on performance. Just because few liked Pogba's performance doesn't mean everyone should rate him in the same way.

There is no player who is as useless as Rojo but he barely even gets a mention as people forgot him.

People criticize those from whom they have expectations from, they know deadwood are beyond any help and most of them don't even play.

I don't remember Carrick and Rooney being criticised at their prime. Regarding your second comment, Rashford as said squad player at best and the least we can say about the chuckle brothers the better. Thank God DDG had been saving their arse again and again.

That's possibly the most honest post I've encountered today. I agree with it. Unfortunately such attitude is only serving to force our top players away while concurrently making it easier for the deadwood who aren't kept accountable for their actions to stay at the club.

I think sometimes it would be better taking on a gamble on a foreign player and hoping that he stays. Rather than settling for someone of less ability who may stay or go anyway.

While I agree with some points stuff about local bias is completely made up and you seem to stick to it.
You not only don't remember Rooney being criticized, you also think Rashford for example doesn't get criticized enough. So you went from blaming it all on foreigners to British players not criticized enough. World class or not players should get criticized when warranted.
I guess it doesn't happen at Juventus you so love to mention?

Rooney was criticised when he refused to sign a new contract or when he was in decline. Pogba is our main assist man and yet he's treated at par to Smalling. Meanwhile if local bias didn't exist then Rashford would be considered as squad member level at best. We both know its not the case.

Local bias exists almost everywhere, in some areas (ex us) more then others (ex Juventus). Maybe its United fans being desperate to finally have a quality side capable of winning the WC. Italian fans aren't that desperate about that.

PS I don't like Juventus. If you read my posts and you know Juventus history then you'll know that such statement is insulting both as me being a Manchester United supporters and me being Maltese. The Agnelli family built their wealth on fascism, the same fascism that contributed to turn my country into the most bombed country in WW2.

Maybe you don't like them but sure as hell mention them to no end.
As for other points it's a mish mash of everything. Man united have fans all over the world, so I guess for many of them it's not at all important if a player is English or not..
Not to derail the thread anymore you seem to not grasp why is Pogba even criticize but that's understandable I guess cause in your head he has no faults at all and shouldn't be ever criticized. Not before all those useless local players don't get their part. And boy should they get it.
And no Rooney wasn't criticized only for the contract part...

I think I gave quite a review a out Pogba including his strengths and weakness. Everyone knows them and has worked around apart from us. Which I guess explains why Pogba is wanted by 2 big clubs while we are at 6th place and we struggle to attract the talent we need to get out of this hole.

Its difficult to speak about pogba without mentioning Juventus. They made him the top player he is. As said i hate the club but I admire their highly efficient admin team (at least during Marotta time). Which explains why they had been a dominant force for the past 60 years not some 2 manager's club

Ole and Phelan are trying to do the right things, but they need someone better than Woodward to negotiate transfers.
Maguire, and Fernandes deals should have been done by now.Pennypinching is no good at this time. Pay the money or move on to plan B.
Get rid of the players that don't want to be here, and bring in players that will play for the badge and not money.

Let's just say your tagline is apt. ;)
What does the 2 managers club mean?
As for Pogba I hope he'll get his move asap and set on a new challenge. He deserves better.

Sir Matt and Sir Alex. We rely on absolutely brilliant managers to carry our football ignorant board to success. That's rarely possible

I think Pogba's time is up and I WISH he leaves (of course for the right price). However Pogba is not the reasonwwhy we are in this mess and if we bring longstaff and Bruno to replace him then we are heading for disappointment. Don’t take me wrong those players are decent players but they won't sort all the problems we've got in CM

Its not a dig but the reality. We depend on the manager to drag the business oriented board to success just as we rely on 2-3 WC players to make the Lingards, the joneses and the Youngs look good. I think it's time we assess the people on their own merits. In pogba's case it's assists

The Bruno Fernandes situation is just baffling to me.

Apparently we scouted him extensively last season, and decided he was one of our top transfer targets, this news was leaked as far back as March, or so I understand.
So surely when the transfer window opens you put in a bid..?
If it's rejected, you immediately put in an improved bid, and get the deal done..?
Or worse case scenario, if a deal isn't going to happen, you move onto an alternative target, but surely the sooner better?

The FIFA transfer window opened on 9th June, but here we are on 9th July and we still don't even know if we've actually made a bid.
Why would you scout a player extensively but not make a move?
It makes even less sense to me when you are looking at Premier league players, because the domestic transfer window opened on May 16th, so to still be 'preparing' or 'considering' to make a bid in the middle of July, whats that all about?

It was early May that Ole made this comment, and I'm still waiting to be surprised...
"You’d be surprised how many players’ agents have been touting, not touting, but telling us their players would love to be a part of Manchester United in the future.....players still want to come to Manchester United and you would be surprised by the names that ask.”

It beggars belief how we only get started when the actual window opens. For example, why didn't we already know what Crystal Palace were going to accept for Wan Bissaka? I would have thought that the actual negotiations could take place prior to the window opening.

Re Bruno, my only guess is that this clause is a bit of a sticking point as we don't want to screw Sporting over by making an offer that they're not happy with. So we're probably/hopefully working on it with them without making an official bid until we settle on a price.

I think the obvious answer to that is that agents will flog their players to as many teams as possible. What that does is hopefully spark a bidding war and the agent either gets his client a payrise at the club they are currently at, or at a new club, and the agent takes a cut of that either way.

In my opinion this quote highlighted a bit of Ole's naivety, and inexperience of being at a massive club. Of course agents want their players at united, we pay the most money for players, its a pay rise just to be linked with United normally.

Woodward is trying to get him for the 35 million clause. Pennypinching git.
Are you seriously complaining about the fact that Woodward tries to save us money to spend on other players ? I would rather save £15 million and sign him 3 weeks later. Having said that - it will of course backfires if someone else nicks him.

I get the reports of Ole wanting a British spine, but it doesn't mean we will only target British players from now on, that's just silly.

Madrid can't sign every player in the world.

Real Madrid will only get their players if they are a step up. Rather than worry about this, focus on getting better and regaining the status of a European powerhouse. I don’t see Liverpool or City having such fears. Even during SAF’s days, only CR7 had the hunger to play in La Liga. The rest were sold on our terms. That is like 1 player in the last 2 decades. The allure is overplayed as what matter most is wages and trophies. Weather, history and country often isn’t decisive.

That's what happens, gets nicked by someone else. Ndombele is an example.
