Certain players of ours are FOMO players. We are terrified of them going to another club and being a success that we grant them leeway when they don't perform here because they have "potential". It's one of the most dangerous traps to fall into.
Not disagreeing. I think we need competition for places. I also think we need a set game plan going forward. Weve had different styles under our last three managers (and heck, weve also had different styles from game to game for our last two managers)
We wont see consistency when youre playing rw one game, left wing another, scoring but then dropped suddenly after 3 games, and then given 20 minutes here and there to score otherwise back out the team.

And thats for pretty much every player. I do think Martial has something to take him to the next level, its just whether it happens with us or not. (and whether he shows aptitude for wanting it)

I think hes most dangerous near oppositions box as hes one of our best finishers.

I do agree that putting him out as wide and deep as we have
He does this himself. No other player that plays wide for us does this. Playing on the left doesn’t stop Sanchez from moving all over the pitch and it doesn’t stop Rashford. He’s lazy, it’s as simple as that.

Im not disagreeing btw. I just think there arent many other top teams who play so many players out of position or change their positions from game to game as we do. And weve been doing it for over 10 years it seems.

Going to bump this because dare I say it and I don't want to curse this.. but the move to bring in Daniel James (a proper roadrunner out wide) and move Martial to competing for the number 9 is exactly what this thread was asking for and I don't know if it will work long term but seems like Ole shares the same thoughts and thinks Martial doesn't do enough running for a wide player.

I've been crying out for him to be played as a #9. Hopefully he can take this form into the new season.
