People claiming his tackling suggests a lack of control in his game aren't taking into account when, where and how he's making these tackles. This isn't like a CB diving in in his penalty box. AWB is trapping his winger into a footrace along the touchline, allowing him to run with the player and time the tackle relatively easily. There's minimal risk of a foul and even if he does commit one he's high up the pitch or wide against the touchline where a set piece isn't too big of a deal.

This guy is a diamond, as near on guaranteed to be a success as it gets. How is anyone going to beat him? And let's say they do....how are they beating him more than once?

He was an absolute no-brainer purchase for Manchester United. Excelled at a position of weakness at PL level for the last 1.5 seasons, and is young and English. He was the one priority target I thought we absolutely needed to get in months ago, and I feel even more strongly about that now.

Really impressed by him so far. His performances have been great and his tackling is insanely good.

He also seems decent going forwards which is a nice surprise. I guess at Palace he was held back by less quality around him.

If we can sort the RW position it makes us so much more of a threat than we are now with too much emphasis on the left side

Yeah. What more can be said about him? His defensive skills are World Class at only 21. Usually when a winger gets face to face with a full back you are nervous, but with this guy, i'm super confident. I'm not even bothered anymore if he doesn't provide much attacking threat (not saying he does not). Just stay back and let Lindelof run through midfield to bring superiority in central areas.

I don't remember seeing this level of defensive quality in a full back since the days of Maldini. Just unreal talent.

The guy is gold and has shown what he is capable of already but there is some massive overreaction going on here.

The season hasn’t started yet and doing this over the course of an entire season is different. I would rather be pleasantly surprise than big him up early and get disappointed later.

In a league of his own.

Bissouma has "going to be worth 70M in 2 years" vibe to him. It's all in there and he finally has a manager who wants to play football. He's not even that good yet because he's so inconsistent and raw tactically, though he's still only 22. Be interesting to see if he does break out this year properly.

I think some people need to calm down with all the praise. He's still only 21 and is entirely possible that he'll run into some rough form very soon with clumsy challenges leading to goals and frequent crosses from his side.

Hope folks give him the same kinda support then.

By doing the thing they did the first time.

Overall I thought he was fairly average this match. Didn't seem to be as fast or as involved as previously.

We were actually playing a good team. A PL team who finished above us last year.
I think AWB will be awesome this season, my main concern is those fans jazzing over our youngsters in pre-season. Once the real meat is served from August onwards, some fans will have a rude awakening thinking Greenwood will score Lukaku numbers, Gomes will nail a starting spot and Axel will be partnering Lindelöf.

I think he's capable of 12 league goals and will offer more besides. Whereas Lukaku offers nothing. To be fair the only hope of improving from last year is change. We've signed two players. So the change will mostly have to come from within.

He not being visible is also a good thing according to me, points that he is positionally not in the wrong place and the team as a whole is not exposing one of our full-backs to last-ditch challenges. The trackback and challenge (very good challenge) was due to the fact that he got positionally left behind the play which was not seen in Spurs match. Overall monster defender and right back sorted. Those saying Dalot progress will be impacted, Dalot still has lot to learn especially on the defensive game compared to AWB.

Would be interested to see TAA on this map.
TAA is definitely more productive with attacking play, not saying AWB lacks there but haven't shown much that side of his game at Palace. But can see that AWB has tools for attacking as glimpses were shown already. TAA is nowhere near to AWB with defensive capabilities (AWB is the best right-back defensively in EPL).

TAA when against good wingers doesn't give the confidence AWB gives to the team, TAA was turned inside out easily by Rashford in that notable game against Pool.

I'm merely curious of how TAA does defensively while having his attacking contribution in mind.

Top right corner in the box Matic name is mentioned. Since 2016-17, he won 2.1 tackles per 90 mins and dribbled past 1 per game.

AWB just highlights a point that many of us have been making for a long time - when you identify a player who WILL improve your XI, you go and get them and the cost is the cost

United have spent money (in real terms) over the last 5/6 years but we are pissing around in the middle-market tier when what we need are certainties.

Hope the club learn from this and give Leicester the £80m they want for Maguire....who cares if it looks like £10m too much....if we concede 25-50% less goals next season as a result of spending £130m on two quality players I say that's an absolute bargain

Wan Bissaka was absolute class, Luke seemed up for the challenge today to try win back the hearts of fans for the best FB at the club, but SpiderWan edged it again.

I feel like we need to remove 45m from our net spend because this guy is easily a +90m player

Very happy we got him, I remember when we were looking at alternatives because of the high price, but we did the right move. From Young to Wan wow what a difference.

His attacking play seemed much more confident yesterday. Was pulling out some nice tricks and going at his fullback quite regularly which was nice to see.

He can happily do that as he knows he's got the ability to recover and tackle anybody he wishes  he's a breathe of fresh air.

If he ever adds crossing to his game he'll be verging on best right back in the world territory.

I loved him at Palace but some of his skill and technique is just beautiful. There was one bit of play where him and James linked up and it was beautiful.

He's a bit too good to be a right back. Very surprised. Usually, that's where you end up when you're not good enough to be something else on the pitch but deemed good enough overall to be part of the team. Wonder what he'd look like in midfield or as a CB.
