The forgotten ‘Zidan’ of football! Shared a strikingly similar name to a footballing legend of his era, and a striking resemblance to the other main footballing legend of his era (watch the video it will take you 10 seconds to work our who). I used to love watching videos of him in the early 2000’s. I thought he was one of the best players around at the time, although he obviously wasn’t as he was playing for Mitdjelland! He did later go to Dortmund, and do quite well there under Klopp I believe, but this is just a tribute to a random footballer made all the more interesting by his name at the time.

Whoever I bet on
His style always annoyed me.

He looks like the stansout GOAT from this video, but the problem.is that it takes him dozwns of attemps to pull one of these off.

Couldn't believe this is a new thread. Thought it was a bump or something.

Oh the memories. This generation.

He played under Klopp at both Mainz and later BVB, and was about to move to Arsenal iirc if not for the ACL injury he got.

Was an incredible player on his day, though he had problems with consistency a little bit, but he was our only noticeable player in Europe among the generation that dominated AFCONs. Had his share of importance in both 2008 and 2010 as well, assisting the winning goals in both finals.

Also his 2 goals vs Brazil in the great match we lost 3-4 and he also scored against England when we lost 3-1 in a friendly after the AFCON 2010.

Speaking about that Brazil game. Our best ever "loss".

Didn't play much there. Mainz and BVB were the two teams he played the most with.
Guess it was that time when Egypt were winning AFCONs regularly and he was big part of it so was probably playing for Hamburg in one of those years. I genuinely couldn't remember him at Dortmund, was amazed just checking he was there four years and as you say was part of the squad that won the titles under Klopp.

Yes he was playing at Hamburg when we won the 2008 tournament. At this time Hamburg was still actually a big team. He didn't play much there and moved on to BVB under Klopp again as he was building his team and they were rising to be a relevant club once again. He was a main player at BVB till his ACL injury. When we won the 2010 tournament, he was playing there.

Speaking about his time with Hamburg, he scored this goal against Real Madrid in a friendly :
