Don't waste money buying a shirt until the club shows intent?

I used to have a black and grey training top years back, that's about as close as I got to wearing a United shirt as an adult.

They're overpriced, don't look great as casual wear and are nasty material that is totally unsuited to exercise.

Added to that, you look a bit sad as an adult wearing a replica shirt -wear a scarf or something- and you're supporting sweatshop labour.
Agreed.

Because football shirts are fecking awful unless you are wearing one to play football. Even then you have too be careful to avoid being a full kit wanker.
Doesn't have the right shorts, so I'm not sure he's an actual full kit wanker. Definitely a wanker, though. The boots don't help either.

Only buy retro shirts. Shirts these days are made for an athlete, not casual wear.

Remember the 96-97 shirt, that they designed so it would fit with jeans and regular clothing? Baggy and dark.

Spending 700 million in 6 years and having the highest wages in the country apparently isn't showing intent now .

Serious question, are the views in this thread common where you all are? Where I’m from it’s quite normal and common for adults to wear football t shirts out in public  This entire thread is pretty weird to me.

Yup. Quite common. But only the tops. It's something casual on the bottom such as jeans or khaki or shorts. Even girls wears them and it's ace if they have the figure to boot.

Never a full kit wanker though

Haven’t bought a jersey for myself in years but I’ve bought training tops etc. I’ve got the kits for my son from DH gate lately.

I bought the shirt from an Adidas store last season and probably going to skip this year. Somehow the logic doesn't sit well with me. To stop buying shirts is to to reduce the club's revenue and we are hoping that will force owners to make additional funds available?

Money spent on transfers isn't the sole measure of a clubs's ambition because how the money is spent should also be factored in. We have spent enough money over the years but in an extremely haphazard manner.

That’s how it is where I am as well, wearing the tops alone with jeans or shorts is normal. There are loads of people, myself included, who buy a top every season.

It’s a bit weird for me to see so many people in this thread talking about how anyone who buys the kits is a wanker etc. when it’s so normal where I am.

Wouldn't buy the shirt anyway because of the shite chevy logo on the front, ruined some great shirts.

A good intention with a bad execution is still a good intention.

I cant blame them for not spending when they've spent more than anyone else bar city.

They've spent, critized the decision or the outcome but not the intention.

I'm not exaggerating here. The last Man United shirt I bought was (if I recall correctly), the red home shirt that had the stadium printed on it and was made of (at the time) some new, fangled breathable material I believe.

I think this was circa 1998.

I was around 16-17 years old.

I do not see the appeal of buying a £80 football shirt when Im in my late 30's. I dont even play five a side footy - I have absolutely no reason to own a football shirt. Where would I wear a football shirt?

Clearly. Anyone who wears a football shirt to social occasions as a grown man needs a reality check. I don't play football any more, I have no suitable occasion on which to don a football shirt.

I was joking and have never owned one myself :) Perhaps as someone said, if you're going for it just pick the shirt and don't go for the whole kit.

That's just horseshit. Adults can wear football shirts too. However I never wear the shorts as well as I do think that is a bit silly.

It's fine to be honest. Just people being stupid that think otherwise.

Exactly the point I am trying to make.

If we need the owners to be more empathetic to the fan-base, why is our first mode of action is to harm them economically by not buying shirts? Do we typically antagonize the people we want to influence in real life?

Agitating by harming them economically isn't a viable strategy. At best, it wouldn't impact them at all. At worst, our spending power will be vastly reduced and thus exacerbate the current situation.

Why do you care what someone else wears? Who made you the fashion police? If these guys want to wear the full kit that's their choice. I haven't brought the shirt in a few years mainly due to price and haven't owned the socks or shorts since my early teens but have no problem with someone else doing so.

Don't let someone else's opinion stop you enjoying yourself. Unless your enjoying yourself is causing a nuisance.

I sent a personal message to Richard Arnold on LinkedIn because I couldn’t find either Ed or the Glazers on there. I wasn’t expecting a response and I still haven’t got one. I’m sure he’s busy anyways.

Also messaged the MD at Arsenal to tell him he’s doing a great job over there and to keep it up!

I refuse to buy shirts just because I hate the sponsor's. I refuse to be a walking advertisement for chevy or anyone else. I wish they would sell shirts without the crap.

Because Arsenal are in dire straits financially. This message was sent before they bid 73m for Pepe. Was meant as a joke to make fun of their football club.
