We have to get rid of one of them now IMHO.
I agree, Darmian is absolutely not enough and we'll have to make space for new player's wages, anyway.

With Maguire and Tuanzebe arriving and adding Jones, Smalling, Linde, Bailly, Rojo that's seven CB's ! We can easily sell two of them, now.

And yes it's a big fee but guess what? We're filthy rich, Leicester didn't have to sell and 50 is the base price for established players. 10-20 here or there really means nothing for us. The player being good enough is what matters. Hope he is.

The fee we paid for Van Dijk was ridiculous at the time. He wasn't considered anywhere close to the level he's at now and definitely not world class.

I'm not saying Maguire will reach those levels, but the fee is relative to the requirements of the team buying that player. We desperately needed a CB and a GK, so paid world record fees for both. United desperately need a CB who will be an improvement on what they have, so they paid a world record fee to get the player they feel will be that defender for them.
Trust a dipper to be the voice of reason.

That’s the ludicrous market we have. However weren’t we quoted 65 in Jose’s pre season? IIRC?
There were reports Jose never asked for a CB, specifically Maguire until the final week of the transfer window leaving United no time at all to bring in what he wanted.

It's good to see a rival fan making more sense than some of the united fans. We needed a defender and we got one.

100%. I don’t think Maguire will necessarily be as good or influential as VVD, but this is unfortunately the price you have to pay. Especially if you are a top team.

Was a real cult hero here at Hull City with his marauding runs up the field. Guessing he was pretty popular with fans and players alike at Leicester.

Hopefully he has the mentality to carry that over to United. Seems to handle himself well in the pressure-cooker of England international football so let's hope he's fine.

Agreed. A Liverpool fan talking more sense in this thread than most.

Good centre back with leadership qualities, will improve the team. Welcome our Harry.

The hollow headed trolls are all out in force with their fake anger on this thread as expected.

Great signing and the fee was always going to be high.

So who will partner him in defence? Lindelöf is more assured but he is also a bit slow. Smalling is faster and might be useful against teams with a lot of pace or which play in the counter.

No rush selling anyone, we have 4 weeks left. Get everyone else in first and then sell on the deadwood, providing they go abroad. Would actually let Rojo and Darmian leave for 5m each just to get them off the books.

Expensive but certainly an upgrade; it's just the United tax we need to pay at the moment. Chances of getting top 4 and CL have increased a lot now, so what price is that worth.

Think it will be him and Viktor as 1st choice with Mike and Axel next in line.
Hope we can get rid of Rojo, Eric and allow Jones to get properly fit (or become a CDM... LOL).

Agree it should have been done earlier, but clubs like Leicester can afford to play hardball now. So we need to keep upgrading with young talent and promote a few kids over next couple of seasons.

Now.. any chance for Bruno and Paulo to make it perfect?

I do not care how much it costs, we have the cash. We need a cb badly, Maguire is a solid player. If he turns out to be half as good as VVD then it is a great deal. That said, i would of preferred Koulibaly but you cannot have everything in life. Hopefully now we can get Bruno wrapped up after the super cup, I am not bothered about dybala.

I'm starting to get excited for the new season. Bruno or Dybala really would round out this window nicely.

Finally over the line. Will bring stability and leadership to the back line. If anything, we should be extremely hard to break down now.

Rojo seems impossible to sell due to the mismatch between his wages and his ability.

The same can probably be said about Jones.

Bailly is quite young and is the one we should try to sell.

Send Tuanzebe to Newcastle on loan or even make weight in a deal for Longstaff.

With Maguire for 80mil and Tuanzebe added to our defence, surely we need to recoup by offloading Darmian, Rojo and Baily. These sales would cover at least 40m. I would rid of one of Smalling/Jones if possible. 5 Cbs will be sufficient.

We need another CB then ;)

Axel is very quick, Smalling pace but relatively inexperienced at this level. Personally I’d go for Victor. If we have a quick DM to go with our FBs who are fast, I wouldn’t have a problem with a Maguire/Lindelof combo

Excitement comes from attack, we have the same players at the front this year. For now.

If Newcastle won't sell Longstaff, honestly I'd rather watch Tuanzebe than Jones & Rojo.

They need to go, seven CB's is pure insanity. We're in absolute position to get rid and continue the needed clearout.

He's an upgrade and personally I couldn't give a flying one how much money it's costing to get him. The club makes money hand over fist anyway. Would people rather it went into the Glazers' back pocket instead of being spent improving the team? Spend spend spend I say.
